  1. Great idea. I'll give that a shot. My NVR is set to only record motion. I would love to have a 7 day 24/7 loop with archived motion, but I'm not sure if the firmware allows it.
  2. I have installed a Swann POE system from Sams and I'm pretty happy so far. I want to tweak some settings which I believe are only accessible through the OSD by directly accessing the camera through a router, temporarily taking it off of the NVR. Do I need to purchase a POE "injector" to power up the camera ? My router doesn't have POE capabilities. My second but associated question - I am having issues with motion detection at night. It triggers and records all night and has very sensitive trigger limits during the day, even though I have the sensitivity set to 1. Any suggestions ? I have set the detection area very small (just grass, door that hadn't moved) but it's still triggering a lot. Also I'd like to use a better software for my Mac other than the Swanview because I generally don't have access to the NVR and would like to be able to replay in high speed to find events that occur, etc. I can't get iVMS to find the NVR. What are my options ? Thanks
  3. I have a Swann NVR8-7300 which I got up and running today. I was able to successfully playback recordings via Swanview Link. I then tried setting up iVMS and was unsiccessful. The only change I made was adding port forwarding to my router which I then removed. I can no longer view recordings. I can "preview" the camera in real time, but the recordings are all gone. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks and don't mind the n00b f-up!
  4. I'm 87% sure it's Hikvision
  5. Thanks a ton. I'm thinking maybe this ? http://m.samsclub.com/ip/8ch-1080p-nvr-8x4/prod16050413?pid=_CSE_Google_PLA_Security_&_Surveillance&source=ifpla&CAWELAID=730010300000481182&adid=22222222628000035012&veh=sem
  6. I know - you can't have both: good quality and low prices. Don't burn me too bad! Looking to add 3 outdoor bullet cams and I'd like to get Hikvision without lighting my wallet on fire. I understand that graymarket purchases won't come with any warranty or support, but that's a chance I'm willing to take. My question: Are there any fakes out there? If I purchase Hikvision from Aliexpress, will I be getting an actual Hikvision product or may I be getting a fake? Thanks in advance!
  7. Thanks for the reply and suggestion. That camera mounting location isn't an option as I don't have access to that area - I can only access the area around my own unit.
  8. Good day and thank you in advance for any responses. I live in a smaller condo building and following several small crimes I'd like to install CCTV cameras to monitor my car and the yard behind my unit. A few notes: I am on the second floor and my parking space is directly below my window. Below is a pic - My space is the open space on the left and my window is on the left side of the building, middle floor. Directly to the left of the frame is a utility pole with a very bright LED streetlight that illuminates the space - I don't think I'll need any IR lighting from the camera. I am open to (and prefer) a PoE system so I can run fewer wires. I have 2.25" (57mm) between the blinds and the glass on the inside top half of the window. There is an identical window (though it's at ground level due to living on a hill) on the back of the house where I also want to install a camera. If I chose something mounted outside, I want something that is minimally-invasive and can be installed to the window frame/casing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking something like this could easily be installed inside the top half of the window between the glass and the blinds. http://www.amazon.com/Axis-Communications-0519-004-Network-Security/dp/B008KMHJ72/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1455673068&sr=1-1&keywords=axis+m1013
