Agree on replacing the drive if unit is still OK. If looking for a cheap model I have been running a 16 channel Anran for two years without any problems. Just purchased a second one for a friend. Testing shows all OK. They can be found on Amazon and you will need a hard drive for that unit. It has a lot of features for a cheap version.

One Hard drives works, two will not?

I will run it on one drive until I can come up with a larger power supply to test it with. Thanks for all comments. -

I will give that a try if I can locate one around here that has that many amps. Yes, that is the power block that came with the unit. The case only has mounting screw holes for one drive so it may not have been designed for two drives. Then again with two drive connections, maybe the manuacturer sells one for two drives in a different case but still uses the same main board and a better power supply. Any thoughts on powering the second drive from a different source? Or could/would this cause problems with the two supplies not "happy" with each other? -

Well, that is hard to say. Since the information in the manual leaves a person wondering just what was stated, it is hard to know. There is nothing in manual about adding second drive or any other devics. -
My DVR has two connectors on the main board for hard drives. The unit operates great with one drive. Install a second drive and the unit will not start. Both conectors are serial ATA. If I switch the cable from one drive that works to the other connector it will work there also. So both connections on the board are "live." Plug unit in with both drives connected and it starts up for a few seconds and reboots. Is this some trick with the software from the manufacturer or something else?

The 465 with Gmail finally worked. It was another number that caused the lock up. I still do not understand why my "normal" email will not work when it is using the same settings as I was attempting to use. If port 25 was blocked by ISP, the email would not work. Very odd. At least this tells me the unit is OK. Thanks

I purchased a CCTV DVR directly from a manufacturer in China. The unit does not have any name or other information on the unit. The front and the back look the same as the 16 channel Anran DVRs. Watching videos of the Anran the various menus are identical. Manual for the unit is normal China junk! Operation of unit is very good, except the Email alert part of it. I have read and checked out so many different discussions on various ways to try to make it work and nothing does. Using my email that works with this unit fails. Putting "mail.charter.net" for the SMTP server and port 25 that my email works on still errors out. I have tried the "gmail.com" attempt also and that locks up the unit. If I enter "smtp.mail.charter.net" I receive a failure to connect. If I remove the "smtp" then I receive a "username error." The username is my email address and password that have been checked and re-checked and checked again. They ARE correct. Is there any way to "check" if this function is just not working in this unit? Defective? Broke?

Maybe I had some luck. The only problem was some .DLL files that would not delete. 8.3 wanted to over write them and could not. Stopped install at that point. Changed the install folder from GV800 to GV803 and install went on without any problems. Program is working great.....so far... R.T.

ilkevinli, Thanks for the answer. I am now at the site and will make the attempt to remove and install. R.T.

Can not find in search: Should you remove Geovision software before you install the new version 8.3, or just install it? Thanks. R.T.

Kensplace I got the impression from that location from the questions they asked, it looked like you should or need to be in business to download 8.3 from them. Not just a home user that does their own set up. Is that thought incorrect? R.T. Well, I guess I have my answer on the download. I was registered with them and a log in allowed the download. Installed today (some problems) and all is working now.

I came home and fired up the computer to state just what you found. I discovered that today. It is under the General tab. If "Enhance Network Security" is checked it turns off the place to check on the Mobile tab. Will be working on that tonight. Thanks for the post. It would have helped if I had not found it out this morning. R.T.

Wow! I never thought I would ask a question that would stump the very knowledgeable people on this site. I guess it can happen. . . . Thanks for the info received. R.T.

Ports 8866 and 5511 are open. The problem is that the mobile tab info is grayed out and can not be turned on. Now what? R.T.
