Avigilon ACC timeline is sweet
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I rebooted the computer and the ACC server was able to reconnect to all the cameras, so clearly it is storing the username and password for all the cameras. Must be a glitch for some camera models. Best, Christopher -
Avigilon ACC timeline is sweet
cglaeser posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've only been playing with one camera and I need to connect to several more cameras and store more video to make a fair comparison, but the speed of the ACC timeline is very nice. I know ACC installers have made similar comments in the past. One quick question. It appears that when I cycle the camera connection in ACC, I must reenter the camera username and password, is that right? Or, is there a way to save this information so cameras can be reconnected without reentering this information? Best, Christopher -

When reviewing recorded video in ACC, is it possible to automatically skip sections that do not have any recorded activity? Best, Christopher -
Avigilon ACC timeline is sweet

I tested three more cameras and they did not require reentering the username and password. Here's my observation: Requires reentering username and password? Axis 207MW - yes Axis 223M - No Axis Q7404 - No Panasonic 502 - No Must be some models and not others. Best, Christopher -
Avigilon ACC timeline is sweet

Really? I just picked a random camera on my LAN, which happens to be an Axis 207MW. What happens when you click Connect? For the 207MW, it generates a dialog box that says, "This camera requires a user name and password." As you know, Exacq maintains this information for all cameras, and all you need to do is check/uncheck the box next to each camera to connect/disconnect, with no need to reenter any information. This afternoon I was at a party and met someone who was the CEO at Pixim from 2005 to 2007. They developed a sensor for an LPR application. In addition to the tricks that are often discussed on this forum including IR illumination and IR band-pass filter, they used one more trick I've not seen discussed on this forum. They used a very fast shutter to stop the motion, alternated the IR illumination with every other frame, and subtracted the ambient image from the IR image to produce an IR only image. I think the veteran installers on this forum would agree we need to know the requirements in order to make a final recommendation. However, I think you are pushing a bit too hard on this ordering of requirements first, recommendations second. Most DIY who visit this forum speak in generalities and don't know what specific features to specify. It's often helpful to toss out this or that camera that may be close, discuss the features and benefits, help them flesh out the list of requirements, and then zero in on some final recommendations. Terminating CAT5 with RJ45 plugs
cglaeser replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
For the DIY, if you don't have a crimp tool and tester and don't have experience terminating CAT5 cables, there is another DIY hack you can use if your runs are less than 100 feet. Get 100 foot CAT5 cables, unwind what you need from each end, and leave the neat loop of excess in the attic or somewhere in the run. The holes along the run must be larger to accommodate the plug. I do this myself when I'm testing cameras, and it works fine. Best, Christopher -
Are you trying to capture plates during the day only or do you need to capture at night also? What is the distance and angles (horizontal and vertical) from the camera to the plates? Best, Christopher

I have discovered a timeline error in Exacq 4.5 on Ubuntu 10. When viewing recorded video, then switch to live view and then back. the times on the timeline shift by one hour. Anyone else notice this? Best, Christopher

Exacq timeline error
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Tech support has not yet confirmed, bu it appears that a patch has been released that fixes this problem. I installed the client version that was released a few days ago, and after a few minutes of testing, I no longer see the timeline error. Best, Christopher -
Avigilon Motion Detection
cglaeser replied to EarlT's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The three features I'd like to see added are: - mobile phone support (due end of this month) - event scheduling in standard license - email that works as good as Exacq. Best, Christopher -

Can you also schedule that? For example, could you set up email on motion (or input alarm) Mon-Fri 6 pm to 7 am? Best, Christopher -
Avigilon JPEG2000 70 dB dynamic range

I'm not sure what you mean by this comment. I was referring to the extra bits that are encoded in the JPEG2000 images. Best, Christopher -
Avigilon JPEG2000 70 dB dynamic range

An Avigilon rep came to my house today to show me several cameras and demo the NVR application. I was originally interested in the new H.264 cameras, and remain interested in those, they are sweet, but I was really impressed with some of the 5MP JPEG2000 samples. The 14 bits per color channel and 70 dB of dynamic range is impressive. Several of the samples had wide dynamic range with bright and dark areas, and when looking at the full image, you could not see any detail in the dark areas, because the monitor does not display 14 bits per channel. However, when you zoom in to the dark region, all the detail is pulled out. Very impressive! Best, Christopher -
Avigilon Analong to IP encoder
cglaeser replied to EarlT's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The good news is that the Avigilon encoder is less than half the cost of the Axis Q7404 encoder, and if you do keep it, it only uses one Avigilon license. Best, Christopher -

According to the Avigilon installers on this forum, iPhone support is seldom if ever requested. According the Avigilon rep in the bay area, iPhone support is frequently requested. Personally, I've been holding off on moving to Avigilon in part because I must have iPhone/iPad support. The Avigilon iPhone app is due to be released this month. Best, Christopher -

The Avigilon mobile app should be out the end of this month. Regarding the Avigilon server, any word yet on whether scheduling will be included in the standard (non enterprise) sever in the next release? Best, Christopher -

Avigilon JPEG2000 70 dB dynamic range

It's starting to feel that way. Two weeks ago there was an attempted home burglary in the neighborhood. The police department is familiar with my security systems, and four minutes after arriving on scene, they came to my house to see what I got. I did not get license plates (that's my next project), but I got excellent daytime MP images of the two vehicles involved. Since then, eight neighbors have asked me to recommend a camera system. When I explain these are not Costco cameras with Costco prices, they say, not a problem. My current system is fine, but cameras are better and cheaper now. No surprise, I really like Avigilon, so I'll likely recommend those. I need to test it first, and Avigilon is going to give me a loaner. Two quick questions. - What is required to move Avigilon licenses to a new system? - How many licenses are required for a 4 port Avigilon video encoder? Best, Christopher -
Some homeowners want install cameras at a gate entrance. The entrance has a tall narrow brick structure that divides the in/out lanes, and it has a tiny roof. The structure has power and phone. Is it possible to install an NVR in an outdoor enclosure under the roof where it is shaded, and expect it to run reliably in the CA bay area? The space under the roof is about 12" deep, 24" wide, and 11" high, though the depth will accommodate more space with an overhang. For the NVR, I'm considering one of the Exacq embedded units. What enclosure would you recommend? Are vents sufficient, or is a fan required? Best, Christopher
