Is IQEye your first choice for low-light megapixel IP? Do you have any night sample? Best, Christopher -
I have some questions. I'll ask in a separate thread to avoid high-jacking this one. What is your budget? Best, Christopher

Sure, it can happen, but when CAT5 wires are paired to carry the load and one of the wires in the pair breaks, that's when the fireworks can start. Best, Christopher
-
24AWG is extremely fragile. Many alarm installers refuse to use CAT5 for alarms because it is so easy to nick during stripping which can lead to a break. Also, just because he put a small load at the end of 900 feet does not mean it should not be able to support a larger load for code compliance. Bottom line, I seriously doubt a building inspector would sign off on this. Best, Christopher

It was very tragic. A dad built a DIY electric fence to keep rabbits out of his garden. He used line voltage and runs of bare wire. His son was playing near the pool when his arm fell across a wire. I knew the boy's scoutmaster. It was a tremendous loss. - Christopher

Yeah, I've seen worse. Best, Christopher

I think he checked a chart for current rating. Line voltage outdoors on CAT5? I seriously doubt it's legal in the US. Best, Christopher

I heard that another company manufactures the H.264 cameras for Avigilon. Anyone have more details on this? -

Caution when buying from Surveillance-Video.com
cglaeser replied to SpyGuy10's topic in Security Cameras
Price fixing in the US is illegal, so manufacturers are likely not dictating a minimum price, but they can control the MAP (Minimum Advertised Price). Note that Minimum Advertised Price is not always the seller's minimum price. If you are an installer, you should be able to get a good deal. Best, Christopher -

Can no longer connect to Panasonic 502 with web browser
cglaeser posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I can still connect to a Panasonic 502 using Exacq, but I can no longer connect to the 502 using Internet Explorer. I have tried cycling power by disconnecting the PoE cable, but IE still fails to connect. I've tried connecting from several computers, and sometimes the camera generates a message that it will install the viewer, but it still fails. Any ideas? Best, Christopher PS: Camera and computers are all on the LAN. -

Netgear products are generally solid and affordable, but I will pay a premium to avoid fans. Best, Christopher -
If I were trying to build a DIY LPR camera, I would use one IR sensitive camera, add an IR bandpass filter, and use an IR illuminator both day and night. At 120 feet, I would use a 10 degree IR illuminator. Best, Christopher

Exacq VMS or R2 3000
cglaeser replied to aroonkl's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've purchased large numbers of Dells for many years, but I recently purchased an HP Z200 i5 to run Exacq VMS and I am extremely pleased with the results. It's a very quiet machine, and installing a new 2TB drive was completed in a couple minutes. I downloaded Ubuntu 10.4, which was also extremely easy to install. I've been running Exacq on this Ubuntu system for several weeks now, and it's been very solid. Last night I upgraded to Exacq 4.4. Best, Christopher -
How much bandwidth does a Mobotic require?

+1. As an example, the storage requirements for my motion recording cameras go way up on rainy days and when there are low-flying fast-moving clouds. Best, Christopher -

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried both disconnecting Exacq and disabling the firewall with no success. Best, Christopher -

Help in choosing the right cam (descriptive image attached)

Optex makes both wired and wireless versions. Given that it is an empty lot, you should be able to use the wired version. See http://www.optexamerica.com/default.aspx Best, Christopher -

Did you search for an online user manual? Many Panasonic models are available online. Best, Christopher -
I print the date of purchase on a Dymo label for all my lead acid batteries. If it's a critical system, I recommend changing lead acid batteries every three years. I've had a few lead acid batteries last much longer on non-critical systems, but more than three years is pushing it for critical systems. Best, Christopher

It appears that the Exacq website is being updated with links to release 4.4. Best, Christopher

D1 @ 7fps OR CIF @ 30fps? Which is Better--is Bigger better?

+1 I caught an auto burglar by matching a very small label on a jacket in a night image. One clear image was more helpful than large numbers of low resolution images. Best, Christopher
