Axis Q7404 video encoder, D1 resolution, MJPEG at highest quality. It's as though the lens can't pull focus at that focal length, which I'm guessing is around 1/2 to 2/3 fully extended. When fully zoomed, the focus is just a blur. Best, Christopher

Thanks for responding. Yes, more detail means more disk space. Disk is cheap and recycles. I'll take all the forensic detail I can get. The original setting seemed much too blurry, but this setting seems reasonable to me. Other opinions and comments welcomed. Best, Christopher

I reviewed the settings. Digital Zoom and Digital Image Stabilization were both turned off. Sharpening was also turned off. When I set Sharpening, the image looked like the following. Comments?

Yes, looking forward to your tests with no IR. Best, Christopher

I believe Effio comes in two flavors, Super HAD II and ExView HAD II. According to charts I have reviewed, the order of sensitivity is Super HAD, ExView HAD, Super HAD II, ExView HAD II. So, Super HAD II has better sensitivity than the first generation ExView, and ExView HAD II has the best in this group. Looking forward to reviewing the low-light performance of ExView HAD II. Thanks for the tips. I just skimmed the manual again. Although I did not change the factory settings, the camera does support digital zoom and other features, so I should double check to make sure all the settings are set to defaults. Best, Christopher

Thanks, I thought so. I already had to repair the tilt range with a grinder. Sure glad I don't have to install a dozen of these. That said, the low-light performance of this camera kicks ass compared to my megapixels. If and when I get the focus resolved, I have the perfect location for this camera. Best, Christopher

Right, everything factory. I'm trying to focus on the hedge on the far side of the driveway apron during daytime. I have spent a couple hours working with the focus on this camera. It is very, very sensitive to adjustment, but even if I move the focus one micron at a time, this is the best I can get at this focal length, which is not all the way extended. I've also tried fixing the focus and adjusting the zoom, which is perhaps a bit less sensitive, but still can't get a good focus. I think it's a lens problem. I'll give it another go tomorrow. I think if I set the camera to full wide, I may be able to get a better focus. If I fully zoom, it won't pull focus at all, so I backed off on the zoom, even though I would prefer to zoom a bit more. Should I purchase another lens and try that? What is a quality lens for 1/3" sensor that will fit in a minidome? Best, Christopher

When selecting two pairs of Cat5 wires to supply 24VAC, does it matter if the pairs are twisted? For example, if using green and orange pairs for power, would you use a) green/white-green as one pair and orange/white-orange as the other, or b) green/orange as one pair and white-green/white-orange as the other, or c) it doesn't matter? Assume the other two pairs are used for video and RS485. Best, Christopher

Don't know, they came in a plastic bag. Purchased them on Amazon with fulfillment via Valley Enterprises. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003MHUN7S/ref=oss_product http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QWNZHU/ref=oss_product Best, Christopher -
If you get access to a Sony EFFIO ExView HAD II CCD camera, please be sure and post your review of low-light performance. Best, Christopher

Any word yet on the release of Exacq Vision 5.0?
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Oh, ok, I thought tech support mentioned 5.0 on the phone, but I talk to many vendors, so I may thinking of some other 5.0. Any word on a release date for 4.4? Do you get early access? I just checked the Exacq training calendar and they were here in Pleasanton, CA a few weeks ago. Bummer, I missed it. Best, Christopher -

I purchased a couple bags. I can connect and disconnect with one hand while holding a camera in the other hand. An excellent find. Best, Christopher -

Exacq Vision / Axis Q7404 / Samsung SVD-4400 and RS485
cglaeser posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I am using Exacq Vision to monitor a Samsung SVD-4400 connected to an Axis Q7404 video encoder. Both the Q7404 and SVD-4400 support RS458. I have configured the camera manually and don't have a compelling need for RS485, but I'm curious, if I needed to control the camera, how would I do that? I know that Exacq Vision does support PTZ, but this is not a PTZ camera. Is it possible to control the camera features using Exacq and RS485? Or, do I need to run some other tool to do that? Best, Christopher -

Yeah, I think something like that might work. It's really not a big deal since I did all the settings with my iPhone and Exacq Mobile, but thought I would try and play with it since I have the Q7404, wiring, etc, all set up. Speaking of which, Exacq Mobile is a snap to use while standing on a ladder. I did all the settings, focus, aiming, etc, using my iPhone. Best, Christopher -
Samsung camera has limited tilt range
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
That is precisely what I did. I disassembled the camera and used a grinder to remove the two dimples that were stamped into the sheet metal posts. Now, the camera will tilt to the horizon. The downside is that the tilt will no longer hold as securely when the tilt nut is tightened, but it is sufficiently secure and will not move once the dome cover is screwed in place. I acquired this camera for the low light performance, and it certainly delivers in that regard. However, the installation features are a bit of a pain. Best, Christopher -
I installed a Samsung SVD-4400 and the tilt range appears to be limited between 90 and 30 degrees from horizontal. I'd like to set the viewing angle much closer to horizontal, perhaps 10 degrees or so. I've loosened the screws and applied as much pressure as I dare, but the tilt angle seems to be limited by something. Any suggestions? Best, Christopher

Yes, perhaps a supplier. Some of my 123 orders have been drop shipped from Canal. Always had excellent service from 123. Best, Christopher -

Not surprising, the Samsung driver is for PTZ. Is it possible to make adjustments to non-PTZ CCTV cameras using the Axis Q7404 and RS485? Best, Christopher -

I installed Avigilon Control Center on a Vista system. The sample video for the recently announced 2MP HD H.264 is very compelling. Looking forward to reports on low-light performance. Best, Christopher -
Samsung camera has limited tilt range
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I removed the Samsung SVD-4400 and isolated the cause of the limited tilt range. There are posts on either side of the camera that are stamped from sheet metal that mount the camera to the rotating pan. Each of these two mounts have a stamped dimple that acts as tilt stop. It appears that the round piece of sheet metal that holds the camera has notches that should clear these dimples. Unfortunately, these notches are not sufficiently deep, and this piece of metal does not clear the dimples. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance. Best, Christopher -
