Avigilon Control Center Player and Windows 7
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I was hoping some other brave soul had gone first. When it tried to install Direct X 9.0, I killed the install. I'll ask Avigilon tech support. Best, Christopher -

Avigilon H.264 Cameras
cglaeser replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
These Avigilon cameras are ONVIF compliant and in theory should work with the next release of Exacq Vision which is due to be released any week now. Any word yet on whether Exacq has specifically tested these cameras for compatibility? Best, Christopher -
Avigilon H.264 Cameras
cglaeser replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Don't know the reason for the delay since the cameras have been officially announced, but they plan to post sample videos on their website in the coming weeks. Sample videos are available for registered dealers and installers, so if you have an Avigilon account, you should be able to view them now. Best, Christopher -

The auto focus is likely slow and may require a static scene, which would probably not meet customer expectations if they made it available as a feature. Best, Christopher -

The Panasonic 502 has separate settings for the day and night auto back focus. Does the new Avigilon HD have one focus setting or two? Best, Christopher -
Samsung camera has limited tilt range
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I contacted Samsung technical support, and the technician says he has never heard of any reports of limited tilt range on any of their cameras. Guess I'll have to pull it down and take it apart to try and isolate the cause. Best, Christopher -
24VAC over Cat5 wiring selection
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Just curious, the screw heads are recessed, but are they hot when powered, or is there insulation between the screws and the flange that constricts and holds the wires? Best, Christopher -

Samsung camera has limited tilt range
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
PS: The resolution/focus is less than I had hoped (I've been spoiled by HD IP cameras), but the low light performance is great. I added this camera for the low light performance, and it does not disappoint in that regard. Best, Christopher -
Samsung camera has limited tilt range
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Neither side will raise more than 30 degrees from horizontal. I loosened the nut to the point of almost falling off ... still no go. Inspecting the camera while perched on a 12' ladder, I can't see what is limiting the range. I'm guessing a bur or some sort of little piece of bent metal inside the parts that rotate. It's noteworthy that the camera tilts to about the same angle both ways. Perhaps the tilt limiting mechanism has itself tilted. May have to remove the camera from the mount and disassemble on a table. Unfortunately, this is not an easy camera to install/de-install. Don't know how this Samsung compares to other CCTV cameras, but the Panasonic 502 mini dome is a snap for one installer. The Samsung is just begging to be dropped to the ground during installation. 24VAC over Cat5 wiring selection

I found these http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=110&cp_id=11009&cs_id=1100903&p_id=6881&seq=1&format=2 The ones on Youtube did not have pigtails. Just a DC plug and two terminal screws. Best, Christopher -

Do you have a compatible part number that you like for cameras that do not come with a plug? Best, Christopher -
24VAC over Cat5 wiring selection
cglaeser replied to cglaeser's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thanks for the responses. I saw some low-voltage power plugs with two screw terminals in a Youtube video that would work well with either 18AWG or a pair of 24AWG Cat5 wires. Do you have any preferences for pigtails, power plugs, etc. The Samsung SVD-4400 just has some wires for power. I used some twist-on connectors, but would prefer to add a plug for easy connect/disconnect. Best, Christopher -

What is the suggested retail price? Best, Christopher -
After considerable frustration, I seem to have resolved an issue with the Axis Q7404 Motion Detection. I tried many combinations of sensitivity, object size, and detection window placement, but the Q7404 would only detect motion in the lower right quadrant, even though the detection motion window covered virtually the entire scene. As best I can tell, the Q7404 algorithm gets confused when the detection window is all the way up against an edge (e.g top, bottom, or side edge). I move thed detection windows a few pixels from each edge, and it seems to be working correctly. Best, Christopher

Don't be surprised if he bristles at the word "problem". It's a feature. Best, Christopher

I agree. I contacted tech support via live chat, and he would object to my use of the words broken or defect. According to Axis, it's not broken, they just don't support SSL. Whatever. It works fine in all my other devices. C'mon Axis, get with the program. Best, Christopher
-
I look forward to replacing all my Axis cameras and video server. The cameras have poor low-light performance, and the Q7404 is fine (if you overlook the lack of SSL), but D1 resolution is so yesterday. Best, Christopher
-
I contacted Axis technical support. Axis cameras and video servers do not support SSL, so the majority of mail servers will not work. He suggested using the mail server gmx.net, which he has tested and says will work. Axis may add SSL to future cameras, but it's not currently under development, and existing non-H.264 cameras will likely never be supported. Best, Christopher

Yes, I've tried that; it doesn't work. I have so many devices successfully sending email to so many different email accounts, I don't even know the total off the top of my head. They all work fine without any problems. Axis is the only one that fails, no matter which email account or port or domain name or IP address or you name it. If someone is able to send email from an Axis camera or video server, please let us know and post the details. Best, Christopher
