email notification on motion IP cam

Thanks for testing this. I've been testing various Axis cameras and releases for a couple years and never got smtp to work. Now that three of us have reported the same problem with Axis cameras, it seems that the problem is with Axis and not our ISPs or LAN configurations. Best, Christopher

You are not alone. I never got Axis to work either. All my other cameras and devices can send email with no problem, but Axis does not work. Best, Christopher
  3. I think I am doing the right way because the video is not inverted, but I tried it both ways with no success. I may need to remove it so I can give it a close inspection on well-lit table. Best, Christopher
  4. I purchased exacq mobile for the iphone and it works reasonably well. Much faster and easier to use than trying to use Safari. However, either I don't yet know how to use the Search function, or it's not particularly useful. As best I can tell, if the camera is set to only record during motion, and you try and search a time where no video was recorded, an error message will be generated, rather than skipping to the next sequence that was recorded. Anyone have any success with the Search feature? Best, Christopher

  6. The STB275VW wall mount has a separate bracket with conduit threading. I think I will pull an extra 10 feet of cables through this bracket and assemble the camera, wall mount, and wiring on the ground, and then pull back the extra cabling through the bracket and attach the wall mount to the bracket. This seems to make a lot more sense for one DIY on a ladder. Following the order of assembly in the diagram would likely end in disaster. Best, Christopher
  7. My Samsung SVD-4400 arrived today and I'm eager to test the low-light capability of this camera, but install design features, ouch, there must be an easier way. The globe has an anti-drop cable, but the camera does not, and the four screws that attach the camera to the mount come all the way out and drop to the ground below, never to be seen again. Not only that, but all the wiring must be neatly packed into the mount as the camera is pushed and held into place while trying to screw in the screws. Apparently, this is a four-handed two-ladder job. The Panasonic 502 mini dome installation design is much better on every count. Any installation tips are welcome. Here's hoping I don't drop this thing tomorrow. Best, Christopher
  8. Regarding wall mounts, is there a wall mount for the Panasonic WV-NP502? Best, Christopher

    Averdigi i-phoneviewer app.

Ouch! FWIW, the exacq mobile app saves configurations for multiple servers and cameras on those servers. Best, Christopher

I have tried using the same servers and configurations that I use in Outlook and attached devices with no success. Now, sbcglobal.net does require SSL over port 465 and I don't know if the Axis can support SSL, but I can send email via gmail and other SMTP servers just fine using Outlook and other devices attached to my LAN, but no go with Axis cameras. email notification on motion IP cam

FWIW, I have never been able to send email from an Axis camera. I can send email from many computers and many other devices to many mail servers including my ISP ATT, gmail, and many of my mail servers hosted on remote servers, but not from an Axis camera. I can send email from Outlook, exacq server, the router, the NAS network storage, etc, etc, but not from an Axis camera. I have tried sending mail from an Axis 223M running 4.47 to as many different mail servers and using every reasonable configuration I can of, but it never works. Probably just doing something stupid, but I don't know what that is. Best, Christopher

  13. I did some more testing, and I think it works as follows. If the camera records continuously, then you can set the search to any time in the past and see 1,2, 5, or 10 minutes of recorded video. However, if the camera only records during motion, then you have to guess when there was recorded video. You can set the search time several minutes before the recorded video, but the duration must straddle the recorded video or it will generate an error message. For example, if video was recorded at 3:15 am for one minute, then you can set the search time to 3:10 am with a duration of 10 minutes, and that replay the video recorded at 3:15. However, if you want replay any recorded motion between 1 am and 5 am, apparently there is no way to do that (short of searching every 10 minute interval for a hit). Best, Christopher
  14. If the cameras will work with 24VAC, then seriously consider going that route. It will save you headaches in the long run. Best, Christopher

    IR bandpass filters

Anyone have any success building a DIY license plate camera by adding an IR bandpass filter to a low-light camera and adding an IR source? Where did you get the IR bandpass filter? Best, Christopher
  16. Where is a good source for purchasing the GVI Tool-less Baluns (or comparable substitute)? Best, Christopher
  17. I was asking a different question. What is the maximum aperture of the lens at the long end? (In the video, it may not have been wide open, but I'm not asking that). A zoom lens has a maximum aperture at the wide end and at the long end and the specs may look like f/1.4-f/3.5. Expensive and larger zoom lenses may have the same aperture through the entire zoom range, while less expensive and smaller zoom lenses do not. Best, Christopher
  18. Some of us are impressed. What is the aperture of that lens when fully zoomed. Best, Christopher
  19. Suweet. Thanks for posting the video! Best, Christopher
  20. Thanks for the info. Increased light sensitivity is always welcome and a 30% increase is a laudable achievement, but it's only a fraction of a stop gain, whereas f/1.4 to f/2.0 is a full stop loss. Best, Christopher
  21. Hey Soundy, what's your favorite selection at Starbucks? I have a Starbucks gift card with your name on it. When wah888 posts a clip showing that he successfully pulled clips from a Samsung 32 channel NVR, injected SMTPE, and converted the the clips with SMTPE to a format suitable for input to FCP and then synchronized the clips on the timeline using SMTPE, I'll put the Starbucks gift card in the mail addressed to you. A cup of joe never tasted so good! Best, Christopher
  22. Yes, understood. At some point in the workflow, he'll have to create clips of manageable size. If the workflow creates clips with a rough timestamp (plus or minus tens of seconds is good enough), then the clapboard mark can refine the alignment on the timeline. I've used this technique myself many times to replace the low-quality audio track of a video with a high-quality audio track that was recorded simultaneously. The drift is so small so as not to matter for clips less than an hour. Best, Christopher
  23. Are you trying to film staged scenes with actors using CCTV cameras? If so, why not use a clapboard? Or a simple hand slap. Synchronizing multi-camera shots in an NLE is very easy by aligning sound marks in the audio channel. Best, Christopher
  24. Yes, not only are there better tools, but a six pack of digicams is likely cheaper than some of the VMS applications that are being proposed. Best, Christopher
