  1. AverMedia tech support sent me an email several minutes ago. They are unable to duplicate the problem and requested additional information. I had sent them a link to this thread so they could investigate, but I have not yet placed an order for the EH5216 so I don't have any additional information beyond what is included in this thread. I assume those who have an EH system with de-interlacing problems have been in contact with AverMedia and will keep us posted re any progress. Best, Christopher

    Re: Video files recovery

Yes, there is technology to retrieve data that has been overwritten, but it is prohibitively expensive. If data has been deleted, it's easy to get back, but once overwritten, mere mortals should assume it's gone. Best, Christopher
  3. You will probably have to add IR, but one of the best ultra low light cameras in an affordable price range would likely be a 1/2" Exview such as the Samsung SHC-745. Best, Christopher
  4. Just reading some old threads. I think this should be Q7404, is that right? Best, Christopher

what is better- low lux camera vs infra-red

Distance to subject is not the reason to select IR. A good low-light camera may do just fine at long range in a well-lit parking lot, for example. IR is generally used as a semi-covert and/or non-obtrusive light source when there is insufficient available light for a particular camera. Best, Christopher

what is better- low lux camera vs infra-red

You need to specify a price range. There are some good choices under $1,000, but they can't compete with cameras that cost $5,000 to $20,000. Best, Christopher
  16. According to the data sheet: "Support static as well as dynamic de-interlacing for smoother graphics" I'm guessing there is an option for static vs dynamic de-interlacing. Did you try setting this option for moving objects? Best, Christopher

    Help With Residential System

I like the EH5216 and was preparing to place an order, but have been following the recent thread regarding an apparent interlace issue. I'm hoping the problem can be isolated and corrected relatively soon so I can move forward with the install. Best, Christopher
  18. I was planning to place an order for one of these. I've been looking for a rackmount hybrid and the price on these is very attractive. Would be nice if Avermedia could resolve this with a firmware upgrade, but as has been suggested, perhaps the EH5216 is just underpowered to handle muti-channel compression. Best, Christopher
  19. I've seen this artifact in Adobe Premiere when de-interlacing was not configured correctly. Best, Christopher

    Does DVR recompress to H.264

When a H.264 IP camera is attached to a hybrid DVR, is the original H.264 stored to the DVR, or does the DVR decode and then re-encode to H.264 a second time? Best, Christopher

  23. So, that's four units with artifacts. Does anyone have one of these EH5216 DVRs that does not exhibit these artifacts? Best, Christopher
