I run a CCTV network for a large university's housing department. We have a small residence hall that is without any CCTV system. At the other 3 large halls we run a server based DVR system, but the connection to this hall is subpar and is not an option right now. We will be updating the connection, but like all states we are facing budgetary issues. However, because of an incident we need to add some sort of CCTV system there. I am looking into an eight channel system, but since I only really deal with server based equipment I am not familiar with DVRs as much as I should be. I need opinions.
All, I need to a DVR that will hold a decent quality with a format that is universal. (I need .avi or .mpeg basically to give to law enforcement) Any suggestions? We aren't looking to spend more than a thousand on this, but anything in the neighborhood of that price range please consider posting. I might be able to work some budget magic.
