Never really been sold on NVR's...yet
jisaac replied to carrseom's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
instead of bickering over what is best why dont you: continue to do what makes you the most money. if you are not making money then change your tactics. Honestly I would much rather install basic dvr systems with home run cables. But the times ARE changing I am have to change with them. We are installing more and more IP systems and nvr's. Why? because if did not then we would have sold alot less last year. -
i know about talent release. the property release I am not so sure of. but the camera shots dont have to have a person in them.

ya most people up here will drive stolen cars for licks. Thats why lpr cams are not that popular.

oh come on! Quit hiding the goods! I know everone has some. let me one some for example.

Premade Cables vs. Non-premade cable
jisaac replied to cctvman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
well I would say that our average cost per system is alot higher but with fewer installs. But besides those two things I would say that those are pretty close to our stats. You can get those stats here http://www.securitysales.com/t_inside.aspx?action=research -
Panasonic WV-CW860A Multiplex-Coaxial
jisaac replied to febulous15's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
so how are you controlling right now? Are you not at all controlling it? well what you will need regardless is a WJ-MP204C data multiplex unit and then have the rs485 output from the dvr go into the data multiplex units rs485 that will go to the camera up the coax understood? -

Premade Cables vs. Non-premade cable
jisaac replied to cctvman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
the average company is installing 148 systems a year. average price per system is 11,250. average profit margin per isntall is 39% so profiting 4,387 per install so average compnay will profit 649,276 gross annually i dont know. It seems pretty profitable for me so far. I cant complain. -
Panasonic WV-CW860A Multiplex-Coaxial
jisaac replied to febulous15's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
your dvr is not panasonics right? what kind of controller are you using? and what kind of data multiplex box are you using? and basically your wanting to control through the dvr also right? -
Monitoring through a window gives me an indoor reflection :(
jisaac replied to osity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
exactly what I said. put it outside. -
oh believe me you have to send it in. This was the incident that brought about my end with dedicated micros a few years ago. We sent the dvr in next day air. Because they promise they will fix it within 24 hours and send it back the way you sent it. So a month go's by and no dvr and they have no clue where it is. So the dvr shows up at my place and no one at dm has any idea how it got there. This was after I told the military that there dvr was lost by the manufacturer. So then I get to look even more like an idiot by bringing in a supposed lost dvr. After that I told dm to take their overpriced dvr's and stuck up tech support/rma distaster department and shove it . well that is the edited version with a few words missing and some replaced with more PG words.

there has only been one of our clients that have ever opted for a pt positioning system like pelco's esprit series. and that has been the military. They love them. But no one else wants them. I like them and think they are excellent for observation. But then again I am not the one who is paying for the system. So I dont get much say.

Premade Cables vs. Non-premade cable
jisaac replied to cctvman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
premade cables do not have the quality shielding and overall transmission of signals. They are not as durable and in my own personal opinion is used by amatuers or what we call diy. I also had a question, you said "I almost feel like a complete fake for asking this question but the grim fate of low profitability seems to be rearing its ugly head." exactly what about the jobs you are doing that is causing you low profitability? If the profitability of your company is so low that the cabling is a defining factor of the profit your getting then something is not right. If you dont want to discuss that in the open forum then we can discuss it in the dealer. Or feel free to pm me and I will be glad to discuss that with you in private. The difference in cost of premade and made cabling is so small that it should not even be an issue. Forbes magazine last year reported that the two most profitable industries to be in right now are 1: financial consulting 2: surveillance/security -
ya that does not seem like a genious highly technical idea. But it was a pretty good one.

This topic could go in this section or the ip section. But I chose cameras. Do any of you guys use any ptz's that have image hold feature? Man that is great for reducing storage consumption from ptz's cameras. Also its great for VBR transmission. That is a pretty good idea that has no been talked about very much if any. If you have not used a ptz with image hold, i would recommend it. Especially for viewing over the network.
-
ya know I am not sure. We recently did a job where we put 5 panasonic 964 ptz's on video servers and sent them to a nvr. But we used auto home feature and then had it auto track from there. And its really not a place where I can just go back and play around with the settings just for the hell of it.
-
image hold is when you in a tour/seq it will hold the image of that preset and when the camera moves completely to the other preset it will then put that image up on the screen. So you never actually see the ptz move in a tour. it looks like a multiplexer switching between single frames. example http://arksurveillance.com/hostvids/imagehold.avi

megapixel cameras and IP cameras
jisaac replied to blowrabbit's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Ip cameras should let you do the same things as megapixels. (except choose between megapixel and vga sizes. obviously) but ya a megapixel camera is the same type of configuration. But you better have blazing speed on your upload because they can get rather large filesizes. -
well there are the analog ptz's that have the auto tracking in the camera and they a network camera which is also auto tracking capable. so where you talking about a nvr commanding the presets over the network and back out to through a network interface (decoder) out to a analog ptz? If so then I am not sure. But will have one of the guys test it out early next week. It would be much easier if you used a network ptz and gave the preset commands from the cameras browser.

ya he did not want that camera to track past that point in which the camera followed him no more. Only wanted to know if people were in that area from where the camera stopped tracking and the 180 degree view from the direction from where he came from. outdoors? depends on what the variables are. For wide open areas of minimal traffic then pretty good. Lots of traffic=bad. Dont point in an area where tree or shrubbery that can sway in the wind. overall it works pretty good. Better than I first thought it would before we installed cameras with auto tracking. usually what its used for is to look at a door that leads into a large area. so if someone walks through the door and into the large area it will then follow them throughout the area. this was a panasonic wv-cs954 indoor SDIII ptz here is another just basic clip of the ptz moving around this shop http://arksurveillance.com/hostvids/indoorptz.avi this camera was especially good for this place because if you look along the entire exterior walls it has windows closely spaced throughout the top half of these walls. These are not glass windows. Its hard to explain what exactly they are but kind of like sky lights that are not transparent. But stll let alot of sun through the windows. As you can see the inside is much dimmer than outside. would have been horrible with a wdr.

Monitoring through a window gives me an indoor reflection :(
jisaac replied to osity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
yes there is a excellent way to not get the glare off the window,............ put it outside. -
4 day/night cameras for 139 each? well you did say get the "best cameras for the price". Its good thing you did not say good cameras. at best you will get a camera with a loose definition of "day night". do you WANT to pay up to 139? or CAN you pay more than 139? If you are wanting to save money on cameras then why dont you just save alot of money and get some dummy cameras. Probably will provide you with the same result.

can you give a little more info? when you say you stood up to adjust it you mean physically stood up to reach for it and it got better? Is it still grainy? can you provide pictures?
