Tricks of the Trade - For the Video Installer - Part 2 of 5
jisaac replied to rapid's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
oh ya j hooks are a must for us. Suspends your cable up off the tiles, con duit, and everything else. makes a channel for your cable and keeps it from being damaged throughout your pull j hooks are well worth the extra time it takes -
ya the thing about the comparison of the two is that it would be really neat to see a oem camera with average specs. Pretty much a standard ntsc camera and take a snap shot of it. Then compare the two. That camera is a panasonic 484 which is a sweet camera. Its a good thing I have lots of "tpys" to throw up and compare. I just dont have any cheap bottom of line cameras. Dont keep those in the toy selection. I might run down to a local distributor and buy a cheap oem just for kicks.

Any way to connect CCTV camera directly on a laptop
jisaac replied to airside's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
yes and this is what I have been doing lately when I go out to do a site survey and design. I bring a standard Ip camera, my laptop, and a crossover cable. So that way instead of looking and guessing with my eyes I can actually get snap shots from the camera to have images of potential camera locations and views. Works great. -
here is a camera shot with the same ir's but this time with a panasonic 484

ok here you go. I just placed a ir dome on the window seal because it has been raining and so i had not much opportunity to set it up right.

Tricks of the Trade - For the Video Installer - Part 2 of 5

oh ya the gopher poles are very expensive but worth every penny -
i am not saying that they have to be one of the guys who have no budget. But most people will actual pay for things if you can show them the value of the system. And most people will stay pretty price conscious if they just think that it is an average system.

I did an install in magnolia arkansas which is 3 hours away. they dont have an it staff. And it was 14 ip cameras. 3 were panasonic wv-np1004 megapixel. And the rest were a mix of the wv-np2004 and 474 ip vp dome. The reason I stated where the install was is because obviously dont want to be going back there over and over to service. And for 4 months have not gone back once. If you are going to stream quality video over a network I would have to recommend using a dedicated network for the cameras. Or be sure to have a gigabyte backbone and be sure to calculate for overhead and you wont have any problems. The only problem that could really come into affect is if it had no power. Which would be easy to fix. Design it. Plan it. Calculate it. Install it. If you do each before you jump into it. You can prevent most all problems before hand. The ip systems we have done have had FAR less trouble than any analog system we ever do. Although the ip systems seem to be a alot more headache in the planning.

i will post some in the morning with ir.

man the way you guys were talking I thought those poles were going to be over 3,000 dollars. They are not that expensive. Just add them into your proposals. All that work of building them yourselves would be way to much work. I think they would be well worth it. I am going to start using them.

who gets a 300 camera job? Well the people that are really out there doing real business. megapxel cameras can put out great night time images. I would like to see you get out your 99 dollar chinese camera and sell it as a security system. Changing out your memory cards every couple of minutes. And explaining that there is going to be some time during the day where there is no images because you have to take a break to go to the bathroom, eat, and sleep.

I do serivce maintanence agreements also a service that alerts us when any video is lossed and we automatically service it withing 24 hours also event based monitoring generates a substantial monthly recurring revenue for the accounts that use it.

oh ya go with a panasonic SDIII WDR camera and you will be thoroughly impressed with the image. Completely takes the image and gives you a image you did not even know was possible.

I am not saying that megapx cameras are not any better than using a regular ntsc camera for lpr. But that was for the people that think all tha they have more resolution alone on the lp itself will guarantee the #. Megapixel cameras are excellent. Very nice to use in an area where wide coverage is needed but also necessarry to have detail when reviewing. they are massive bandwith hogs. You cant have to many of them on a system as they will quickly add up in bandwith. And i would disagree about just being a digital camera system. Because most megapixel cameras still are cctv cameras with the same type of settings and adjustments for getting activity just as you would do before. You still have alot of the same factors, variables, and application curve balls to conquer with megapx's cams.

i forget that its not the norm to have a T1 coming in to your house

I have done several installs lately with the extreme px100 uf500 bundle along with a couple of different optex long range pir's. ( depending on the application requirements.) And so if anyone comes on the property it will alarm to the monitoring company while they visually verify. The optex pirs willl walk the ptz by the alarm inputs and outputs. It works pretty good. The things you have to watch out for are: 1: make sure you surface is not going to be swaying at all. 2: that you check to see that the intruder is not a deer! Man we have seen some big ones.

I have thought about creating some sort of network of CCTV dealers across the nation. Mainly for business owners who's main business is video surveillance or integration there of. Mainly to share ideas and perspective of being a small business owner and surveillance based installations. Just a group of people who are not directly competing with each other to exchange information and ideas and experiences within each other to share insight and what we have learned through trial and error. Security Monster and I have spoken on multiple times before and I know I have benefited a lot in talking with him. We both are in the same boat. Been in business the relatively same amount of time and the couple of times we have talked we have gained a lot of insight as to how others operate. I think an association or network is a great idea I main not be able to tell many people how to do some things right But would be GREAT at telling people how not to do some things!

really? can you post some images???
-
it is probably a defective iris. Its not able to keep a luminance level that is somewhere around 100 IRE's normally. If you put the same camera at the same locaiton under the same lighting does it have a good picture? Its probably not the area being covered but the camera that is covering it. Maybe the ir cut filter is not completely filtering out the ir giving the sensor to much light. I would replace the camera and see if you have the same or different results.

Any one done a completely wireless IP system?
jisaac posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have got a job here that has been quickly put on the top priority. And we are to secure a bridge connecting the two cities. So I decided on creating a wireless lan that is going to be floating over these two cities and monitored by two different locations. The cameras are going to be ptz's out on the lights. And a few fixed cameras at the entrance points. Well if anyone here has been involved in, designed, or involved someway in a install completely over a wireless lan I would like to know a few things about what to expect and not. I mean we have done cameras over wireless lan before just not a complete system over wireless lan with multiple ptz's and all the different specifications I have not mentioned. -
need help for installations of 50 fixed cameras and 40 PTZ

pelco housings and electrical safety

You kind of answered your question in your question The reason also there is no earthing is to prevent your housing from becoming a second ground for the camera itself.
