  1. The other day one of our referalls referred me to about 10 different people. Welll I wallked into one business and introduced myself. And the business owner told me,"oh your to late. We got broken into last night". Of course I am thinking, "no I am just in time". Because if i came before they got broken into she would have told me no thanks she doesnt need one. But now she is dying to get one because Brinks security sells there alarm systems and tells people that criminals will pick a business without an alarm. Or once they here the alarm go off they will not stay. Both were proven wrong this time and time and time again. She cant complain to Brinks because the alarm system actually "worked". They broke in, the alarm went off, and they called the police. The police showed up 45 minutes later and the burglars were gone. It did its job. What I tell people is exactly the opposite. I say," look you cant stop criminals. You cant deter criminals. Criminals that are determined will do what they do regardless of the fact. The only thing you can do is preper for it. Video surveillance will provide you with a complete video documentation of who was there and what they took. All an alarm company will tell you is that you where broken into. Heck you would know that". I think the alarm/monitoring based companys that base their whole company on alarms and year and a half contracts for monitoring fees are going to be left in the dust if they dont change soon. Especially areas that are going to a non response. Any thoughts?

    Saturdays install

This might get moved but the reason I put it here is because it was during an install. Now with that said On saturday we were doing an install for a residential and the neighbors had 4 american rottwielers. The customer said that those dogs cant get out of the back yard. Well.....he was wrong. Later on in the install I was on the opposite side of the house and was standing on the patio feeding a fiber glass rod through a hole that I drilled up into the attic. So turn to my left and there he was. One of the full grown rotts was standing there 9 feet away from me just waiting for me to make a run for it. So I casually turn and tell my brother who is in the attic to get down and unlock the sliding glass door to the patio. So for 3 minutes i stood there and felt the star of the rott on my side and more specifically my butt. Finally my brother opened the glass door and as soon as I took a step for the door that rott immediatly barked and rushed me. I stepped inside and quickly shut the door behind me turned and saw that rott bearly missed me. Thats when I called it quits that day. I told the customer that they need to get the dogs under control and then we will come back. ( we are not going back )

    Keep getting problems

ended up being the modem. I hate when equipment works most of the time and malfunctions just a little because its just enough to have you trying to get it to work before you realize you need to replace a piece of hardware. I would rather the dang thing explode.

    New Guy Question

nope your accent Just kidding. I am originally from baton rouge. Moved to arkansas when I was 10. I am a big tiger fan. Its always fun when we lsu kicks the crap out of arkansas. (barely last year). Everybody is a sore loser up here. I have been planning on getting down there to New orleans to spend some money and support the business owners. I love me some crawfish etouffe and a real cajun made red beans and rice
  10. ya, i am not one of those guys that will tell someone that crimp or twist or compression is the only way to do it. I have no problem with any off them. If you are not used to compression i would not use it until you practice. The twist on are good for anyone to use. Crimp on definitly good. But back to the twist on ya your going to twist until it just stops. Give it a good pull to ensure proper termination. If you give it a good pull and pull it off then it was not done 100% right. By the way you guys ever do 3 piece crimp or 2 piece? I used to use 3 piece before compression. But make sure all your installers/coworkers know to crimp the center pin on the conductor before sliding the bnc end over the cable (there was this one job.....)

    Mace Cam 68 Correction

Hey guys I mounted one of the cam 68's with its back up against the eve instead of under the eave like domes are traditional mounted and it made a huge difference, look. this one is the new front drive way shot this is one of the shots from before of the front drive way
  14. i have recently started using compression. man when you do the compression correctly (takes getting used to) you can not get that sucker off. The only way is to cut the cable. if the termination is not correct then it will come right off. Which I like because you know it was not 100% and you wont come back in a few months because the continuity between the center conductor and the connnector finally came loose. But those compression are significantly more expensive
  15. a fastener supplier??? Never even heard of such. They only supply fasteners? wow learn something new everyday. So you have tried this and it worked pretty well?
  16. should have told him that there is no need for that because you can build him a storage unit with built in ptz's right into the unit itself! it comes standard with the buildings now. Come on now he just was looking for an excuse to bring out his toys.
  17. nope just 2 ptz's that is going to be in auto pan. Thats exactly what he wanted. Oh and a 50" plasma to go in his house. One of those rich rednecks
  18. already going to use active transcievers
  19. this is why. Because on the left hand side of the first pricture where it cuts off is this
  20. i know what they are called silly, Its not like this is the first time to mount a ptz on a corner. But what i am saying is these aluminum buildings are real flimsy(spelling?????). A regular corner mount wont keep it secured. every time the wind will blow it will be bouncing all over the place.
  21. Hey guys tomorrow I am having a manufacturer come out and allowing us to test and demo their Thermal Imaging PTZ's with all the goodies. Well I will get it on my network somewhere around 5:00 p.m.CST ( depends on when he actually gets in town and I able to get this hooked up ). So I wanted to give you who are interested the opportunity to log in and see it live on my DVR. Tomorrow I will keep the time of availabilty and the IP's to logon.

ya you are not lying, those bnc crimpers could do some damage to something. But probably not as much damage as that dog to myself

  24. 30ft is really not that far from the camera. usually we would tell you to go to extreme. You could use one of these http://www.macepro.com/catalog/cameras/bullet_camera/CAM53CIR there are several people on this forum that have gotten this camera and been very pleased with it.
