how high would these cameras be mounted? When you say not good what do you mean? How is your house shaped? If you put a camera on each of the four corners of your house would you be able to see all corners? Or is it not square?

yes health insurance. Came in mighty handy. AFLAC!

Here is a question I would like to know your preferences on. In general large rooms, parking lots, and industrial areas do you prefer putting up PTZ's to cover a large area? Or do you generally lean towards multiple fixed cameras covering the whole location the ptz would cover? I would like to hear what you think are the pro's and con's of your "preference". I am not asking if you think one is better than the other. I am just asking which do you lean towards in those type of installations? I personally love to play with PTZ's and find them much more entertaining than looking at fixed cameras for any length of time. But I personally lean towards fixed cameras because of the guaranteed coverage. But which do you prefer PTZ's or Fixed?

well photomm give us some more information on your location. what are you trying to see? Are you going to mount your cameras on the exterior of your house? How far from the house is the object you are trying to see or where would it be? How is the lighting at night time? Also and I am sure everone here will agree without getting into the whole embedded vs pc based dvrs discussion again, is that you dont want to use your existing computer that you probably use for other things than a surveillance system. For one video takes alot of resources. If you are going to go with a pc based dvr only use it for your video recording. First get us the information requested above. Then we will be glad to be of any help. isaac

ya, it is just like the how the movies portray. Oh ya i love the google earth also. I use that thing all the time. Its so much fun to fly around the earth. Whats really fun though is to trick the gullable people in your life in to thinking that it is live! They will try to see themselves or their car for hours!

no not area 51. you can pretty much guess where i was. just dont think i should say it in this instance.

by the way that system that I got figured out today was fucking awsome when we got these cameras up and running. This was 11 cameras over a 15,000 ft strip. They were mounted at 120 ft each except for one was at 60 ft. Not sure of the lense but I could read the letters on a guys shirt 3,000 ft away. The room we watched it in was 4 42" plasmas ( 2 on each side of us and 2 projecters on a 100" screen ( 2 pictures side by side 50" each. ) So when you brought up each camera and zoomed in it was like you were surrounded by the video. I felt like i was flying. By far the coolest setup I have ever seen and probably will ever see again. Once in a lifetime chance.

One time I was in an attic that had wasp all up in this one section in the front. Granted it was a small section but never the less they were there. Well I decided that if I could just slowly creep pass them and dont show fear or dont piss them off ( remember that statement, irony is a *** later in the story ). So i make it pass them without creating a poormans version of accupuncture. Then crawl over the attic extend my grabbzit pole with my z hook hook the wire and pull it back. Well the wire gets hung up in the hole that i was feeding the wire through so i crawl over there and try to see what the hold up was. Look over a bunch of crap and look straight into the eyes of a massive raccoon! I made it across that attic faster than anyone in this forum has every made it across any attic or any crawl space for sure! During this mad dash for the daylight i can hear behind me this raccoon paniccing as much as I am which was pretty hard to keep with. So you can feel my sense of urgancy to get out. So i get almost to the end of the attic and forgot all about the first little hurdle i had to overcome getting into the attic. And went straight through the center of this million wasp march that was going on in this attic. Needless to say there was no place that the wasp and the rest of their gang was not afraid to hit! And that is all I have to say about that!

hey I got stuck underneath an air duct one time for about 30 minutes. It was a very high end client and I did not want to make a seen so I did not ask for help so I for about 30 minutes panicked pinned between a air duct i had wedged myself under to try to snag a wire my tech was pushing up through the whole we had drilled. I finally just somehow unwedged myself and never since then have i taken my freedom for granted.

by the way rory did you get that video that i sent you?
-
that controller on has one input and that is the RJ-45 jack for the communication. That is also the power for the controller. There is no input output. So when I took that plug out it powered it off. I did that about 3 times. And how the heck did the other building get a slave cable to that camera for ability to control it? I am going to pull my hair out on this one before its over.

Does anyone know of a company that you know is reputable and makes quality fixed thermal imaging cameras? Never installed one. But need to buy about 6-8. Price not a concern just quality. Any suggestions? isaac
-
i checked out all those companies and I think flir is exactly what they are looking for. They want to be able to spot those 14 point bucks stepping out on the landing strip. You wouldnt believe the video they have of that happeaning over and over! Deer walks out.....Deer burst into millions of pieces!!!! isaac

Has anyone heard aboyt D.M. new DS2 dvr's coming out? It has some pretty good new features. Although their tec support sucks. Their answer to everthing is "send it in " "send it in". Or "UHHHHH! YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS!!!, I DONT CARE WHAT THE OTHER REP IN TEC SUPPORT TOLD YOU!"

Yes h.264 is pretty much a sooped up upgrade of mpeg-4. It isnot just a "form" of mpeg-4. But it usess the same basics in image interpretatio and identifying picture redundancy. You are right the standard mpeg-4 is not as good as h.264. While windows 95 is not as good as windows 2000 but its still windows. Catch that? (analogy, not suppose to have a connection in topics) And you are right again on the bandwith. But its still an mpeg-4 to its core. I may not be right on alot of things in life, but computers and computer engineering (degree) is what I know inside and out (literally and figuratively). H.264 is also referred to as Mpeg-4 Part 10.
