Hey guys I have one for you. Besides the CCTV system installation side of my business I have another side. We do all the custom cameras and spy stuff and gadgets and gizmos. Well there was this woman about mid 30's called me the other day and asked me to help her with something. ********* WARNING. TOPIC BELOW WILL MAKE YOU MAD. IT IS EXTREMELY SAD AND ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT HAVE A PROBLEM HEARING GRAFFIC INFORMATION****************** With that being said she told me that she is divorced and has a 7 year old son. Every other weekend she sends her son to his dads. And her son has come to her and asked her to do something about his dad molesting him everytime he comes over there. The only thing he brings over there is a back pack. She is very afraid of her x husband and says she does not want to go to the police until she gets 100% undisputable evidence of what he is doing. I thought about using one of those miniature dvr's and sowing that and miniature dvr in his back pack and trying to get this on video. Has anyone had experience with these dvr's? Any suggestions? Any one want to kill some man yet? This kind of thing really makes it hard for me not to get a baseball bat and beat this guy within an inch of his life. here is a link to one I am talking about. http://www.supercircuits.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3937

Extreme makes type of camera with Range gating. That is exactly what you are looking for. It can see through rain, snow, whatever. Contact murray kreuzer or bryan montogomery over there at extreme and they will take care of you. jisaacmagee

Hey have you guys ever heard of a Dvr called Seculab? Hopefully not. The company that use to service the base out here before us installed a few of these pieces of ****. They are by far the worst dvr's I have ever encountered. Its almost funny how bad these things are. Not acceptable by any means even for a doghouse. Especially not for the Military. That is actually the main reason that company is now non-existant. By the way what is the worst dvrs you have ever seen? Post brands and models. Would kind of like to see if anything can be worse than these P.O.S! ( By that I dont mean Point of sale )
-
i think that this company was from germany
-
how did you hear about Seculab? Experience or hear say?
-
I was actually talking about the local install company being non existant. But that is funny to know. I am sure that sgt. will get a kick out of that.

i cant leave the top off i have kids. I cant have ANYTHING exposed.

I like your reference to xbox. I have to have 2 xbox's. One is my out of the box xbox with no changes (so i can play online easily ). And the other one is exactly what you said. My all in one mulitmedia center, ftp, and mass media storage device. Works great. The 360 is suppose to be like that out of the box though.

I dont have much experience in this. I usually just supply the law with bugs, taps, custom devices, and other things. I will take your advice and seperate myself from it.
-
yes i thought it was pretty odd too. But as i looked into it a little bit more i kind of figured out why. She already turned him before. want to know what happeaned? After the police interegated him he found her and beat the living sense out of her. And also scared the son to the point of not admitting it to anyone but his mother. So this guy has got these people under scar tactics. And of course the police can not get him on assult seeing as how she is to afraid to admit it was him. And the reason she admits it to me is because detective shueatz ( i work alot with him ) sent her over to me to get this evidence since the boy wont admit it. Like I said this guy deserves the ass kicking of a life time. Its hard not to get emotionally and physically involved. Would like to be able to help them out.

if you server is already on port 80. That is extremely easy. Set it up on port 87.

hey man i was in no way trying to be critical of your posting methods. Alot of people do that and so i was just trying to show people how to do a edited quote. And in the mean time forgot to disable my codes and ended up not even doing the text only format without recognizing it as codes. Oh well you get the idea. Anyways. I hope you dont in any way think I was trying to criticize you or anything you said. I seriously respect and take in to consideration everything posted. I in no way think that I know everything or that i cant learn something new every single day. So i am always researching and discussing matter and experiences. So I really want you to know I am not being critical at all. Hell i forgot to turn of the coding in my post about coding. Cant take me to seriously. Because I am very laid back and dont take much seriously. anyways. I have enjoyed this thread.

By the way when you are quoting someone and you dont want to quote the whole thing you still have to leave in the: Back to subject at hand. I have dealt with pelco, geovision, global technology ?, and several others. Like I was saying before. I think that if you have a IT staff on hand and a manned security station at all times. Most of the time I dont feel that it is the Pc's actual hardware fault. I think that most of the time the end user loaded their "new cool program they got off the internet last night" or decided to "explore" the settings and what happeans when you change some of them. Agreed it is not the manufacturers fault but that crap plus software and hardware faults happean and the rate is much much higher than embedded. That is why i feel this way. ( that is also why after getting my degree I did not go into the normal fields a person with the same degree would. I dont like to deal the average computer user and their problems. If you can and do then you have a quality/trait that i need to learn to have) Anyways. Casey definitly get us the specs that metloyz asked for and we will provide you with exact equipment you need without all the arguing.
-
METLOYZ, its good to see another engineer from 2 VERY similar majors. I have often thought about going back and getting a double major in electrical engineering. I forget the difference in hours between the majors but it is less than 30. Hell I could do 30 in 7 months.

I agree totally. What i was trying to get across was that even though pc based has more settings and features that the reliability of a system precedes those settings and extras in importance and the deciding factor in a system. I also do provide high end settings and features. Not to the point that i would sacrifice the stability of a system by pushing pc based systems. Understand? Oh ya and i usually go with maces advanced dvr's. They work great for us. And they work great for everyone we selll them to.
-
ya good point. I guess i assume people know what I am talking about. I dont use low end products. If someone wants a low end system I tell them to go to one of these local alarm companys because they can and will definitly sell them some crap. ( of course i dont put it like that) I first do everything in my power to educate them on my product and also the other guys product. Then if every attempt to close them fails I will not put in crap. Would rather not have the bussinness. I might be crazy but I would rather keep a good name for excellent systems. Sorry if i am not being clear. I assume alot. Explain little. OOps
-
By the way. I have a bachelors degree in computer engineering. I know pretty much everything needed to know about any kind of computer whether it be a Pc, palm pilot. or your little kids playstation/xbox. Trust me. Embedded is the way to go for surveillance/security applications.
-
I did not say that Pc based machines are to be stayed away in every instance. I mean I am having to go with one on our install this week for the military. ( would prefer not to ) but in this environment I could not find a embedded dvr to put in with the features I needed. I just personally believe and I could be wrong that 99.9% of systems would be better off with a embedded dvr than a windows. I think the only instance a pc based is half way suitable is when you have personal at the station 24/7 who is fluent in the system and software. Who also has a good knowledge of computers and how to fix them. Because if you are going windows you will need to fix it. Its inevitable. Unless you (or if you dont work for yourself then your boss ) doesnt mind getting calls at 7:30 christmas morning to come out and fix a clients system and in the mean time opening yourself up to law suits so far up your rear end that you will be pulling affidatives out your teeth for months. ( sorry got carried away there ) As a business owner I look at it like this: What is best for my customer not neccessarilly means has the most features, bells, whistles, etc. Whats best for my customer is a quality system that provideds them with 24 hour a day seven days a week video documentation of their entire property and or assets. That is user friendly and is most importantly going to work reliably. Lets face it Pc based dvrs are not reliable. It may not be the Pc's fault neccassarilly. Most of the time its actually not. Its most of the time the end users fault. But you as "Professional" should provide them with something that protects them even from themselves. The best system in the world is absolutly useless if it does not work. Its like that school that around 14 years ago burned down and killed a number of people. So they built a new building and get the best sprinkler system money could buy. For years they where so proud of their sprinkler system. But when a maintence man stumbled across something one day that lead him to find out that the system was never actually hooked up to the water supply!!!! Its ineffective! That is not what is best for your customer. I bet we have caseys head spinning. Sorry casey. P.S. get an embedded.

man that money i payed for it at the time was petty cash compared to what could have been. They work great. I love the ac line conditioning in it. It really makes a difference. Honestly I think it is worth more than that.

It is early Sunday morning 2:22 in the morning. And about 10 minutes ago I went to plug in my laptop to my Monster "Home Theatre Reference PowerSource HTPS 7000 with Dual Balanced Pure Power Isolation Transformers " I plug in the dc plug in to my laptop and then go to plug in the ac cord to the Htps 7000. And right as I plug it in lightning struck with a LOUD "BAMM" and went straight through my ac lines and blowes my htps 7000 out and knocks out alot of my kitchen applainces, washer, and all the alarm clocks in my house instantly! And this all happeaned while I have my hand on the plug with the ac power cord for my laptop JUST plugged in!!!!! I was not touched neither was anything that was connected to htps 7000 including my 42 HD plasma, 7.1 surround, my 8 channel surveillance system and DVR, laptop, Pc, Xbox, Dvd, and a few other small devices! Wow! Thanks monster for stopping that gift wrapped present from above. jisaacmagee

real time monitor 704x576 playback 352x288 vga 720x576 but hey would you rather have even the lowest resolution thats working? or the highest resoluition at a blue screen? I dont know I bet the blue gets real pretty in high res. You know I'm messin with you rory. But also another good thing about mace's dvr. Which thanks to the Mpeg-4 it can has the ability and the inputs on each of their advanced dvr's for audio recording on each channel and audio/video synchronization ability on playback locally or remote.
