ahhhhh!!!! Rory, going back on what you said!!!! Just kidding Ya I know you do. I was just saying that you can obtain real time with mace dvr without having to go pc based. So long as your not installing on any government application. ( long story, casey ) hint: The Buy American Act

    Need some advice please

Hey casey I would like to put in a few words of advice. If you are wiring before the drywall goes up then I would definitly run cat 5 and a bunch of it to every room and and every corner where you think even you have the slightest chance of needing to have a camera, monitor, vpn, telephone, or just about any other communication, video, or audio device. Cat 5 is quickly becoming the universal cable for almost any application. Its alot better to run that extra wire now than to have someone come in and put it in later. Cat 5 is cheap compared to coax and far superior when it comes to quality and number of applications it can be used. Go with "UL listed 8 conductor 24 AWG UNSHIELDED CATEGORY FIVE CABLE. About the remote building. Definitly do not run it with the high voltage. ( against electrical code ). And when the cable is run in its dedicated conduit. Make sure it is not run directly side by side with the high voltage conduit. Code actually requires that it be 6 feet away from the H.V. Conduit run if the pairs of conduit are run parellel. ( H.V. will give all kinds of problems you don't want ). If you want a video clip that I showed rory recently to show you the reason why then I can provide that ) But take my word for it, " keep all your equipment and cabling as far away from high voltage as possible.". As far as equipment I know Rory said PC based. I personally would recommend a embedded dvr. Why? Because with PC (windows) based you get Microsoft Windows and all the bugs, viruses, worms, and all the other good no wait problems that come with it. I believe that especially in the industry that we are in ( surveillance/security ) the last thing you want is instability. Even if it is a little bit. Because the last thing you want is for something to happean while your system is not working right. So if you can cut down on that as much as possible then it is worth it. The embedded ( Linux ) dvr's are not as unstable as the Pc based. If you get the right one you can have it put it and not have to worrry about it. And then you can use it with as much ease as playing bingo. You dont have the crashes, viruses, worms, and all the other junk you get with windows dvrs. I would highly recommend the Mace advanced dvr. Has MPEG-4 compression 30 frames per second recording on each channel! And you can acceess your dvr remotely without having to have an extra program to load it. It is active X enabled. So you can put in your IP in internet explorer and bring your cameras up from anywhere. Here is a link to the Dvr http://www.mace.com/products.php?model=DVR-800RW Like Vst-man says you definitly " Get what you pay for" in this type of industry. Dont go cheap on your cameras or dvr. Get the good stuff made from a company with some credentials. There is alot of places to choose from. Dont go with the company that sells their cameras for 38 dollars and equipment for low low price. Its going to be crap. Also when you get your bids/proposals from your companies be sure to take a good look at what they guarantee. What they warranty. And the list of terms and agreements that they require. I would also research the local companies that will be installing your system. Check their references. Check with the Better Bus. Bur. in your area. There are alot of companies that have a bunch of know nothing idiots as their system designers and installers. Weed them out and get what you want. I hope I have been of some help. If you need anything please feel free to pm, email, or call me.
  3. Ok I really need to know this. Who makes the Best top of the line Dvr? I am talking most expensive top of the line dvr. I cant find a dvr that is mpeg-4 30 frames per second per channel ability to play back all cameras in a multiplexed view High resolution Tcp/Ip atleast 1.2T of storage and all the other goodies oh ya and made in america or a country of good Diplomatic relations. Damn the Buy American Act. jisaacmagee ( oh ya and need to order it tomorrow )
  4. panasonic does not have a high enough record rate
  5. are you serious about the asian made???????? Damn!!! Back to the drawing board
  6. well after a bit of research and alot of persuasion I got them to go with the pelco dx8000. Expensive yes but looking good. The first........well.......the second windows based to be used on base. Probably the last chance windows based dvrs will get to prove themselves.
  7. only have about 30 seconds to type a response. so here it goes. Dont need illuminators. they definiltly want the moodance via extreme cctv. they like the winshield wiper ( a 12 thousand dollar winshield wiper, go figure ). Anyways will give a better response when I have a second jisaacmagee
  8. Ya I like how you said you install in segments first. what we do to try to counter getting in a situation where you have all you cameras wired and working and the customer changes their mind, is we will bring our test monitors and have the customer see the shots before we drill the holes and run the wires. We will let them see each shot in that "zone" before we go ahead and drill the holes and run the wire. It helps does not 100% solve the problem. On one of our last jobs I had this woman who told us at the very end she wanted the monitor on the 2nd floor and not in the 1st floor on the other side of the store. So we run cable to the 2nd floor oppsoite side of the building and get it up their and she changes her mind! Back to the first floor! Then we set the monitor up and then she decided she does not even want a monitor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck?!?!?!?!? Guess you cant prevent everything isaac
  9. Hey who do you guys use for Baluns/transcievers and all other utp products? Rory I know you said you use NVT. Also can you guys post links? And who do you think makes the best ones? Not who do you think makes the best for a good price. I dont care if they are extremely expensive. Would like to see what you think. isaac
  10. Ya i mentioned an idea like but they said because it so so close to the flight line that it would take like a year to even get told NO we cant do that. Like I said if you want me to send you some pics just tell me your email. I just dont want to post on the internet for EVERYONE to see pics of military buildings.
  11. after reading my last post I was thinking someone might read that and take that as a harsh tone. Definitly did not mean it that way. Just trying to emphasize what we cant work with. Which is line of sight wireless transmission and or any other wireless.
  12. you guys dont get it. This is on a flight line with all different types of frequencies you have never even heard of being used. They WILL NOT ALOW WIRELESS. WIRELESS IS A JOKE! ESPECIALLY IN THIS APPLICATION SURROUNDED BY NOTHTING BUT WIRELESS TRANSMISSION FROM EVERY DIFFERENT FREQUENCY POSSIBLE. THEY WILL NOT ALLOW WIRELESS! Ok now their is no existing wire going to this tower. It was a tower they built and never actually got it in operation. Already did the site survey like i said their is gas lines and water lines and other communication lines running all over the front of the path between the tower and the destination building. so that is out of the question. And this is just a weather cam. We are putting active infared ptz's at the flight line in a few months. So illuminators will be taken care of
  13. expensive is not a problem. Application and practicality is the only issue
  14. I think that fiber is a good idea. I want to put one of those extreme cctv's moondance camera on that radio tower
  15. I dont actually run the wire. I let my the little short skinnys guys who can fit about anywhere go do that. But I do tell them everything to do from where to run the wire from, to where each camera will be mounted, and so on and so forth.
  16. I have actually never done fiber. How exactly would you run the wire from pole to pole and keep it tight and able to withstand animals all over it?
  17. Finding a dvr is not always and never should be about price. I compete with people around here that on average are around 80% cheaper on the same business. Why? Because they give a cheap dvr with average cameras. I would really suggest finding a GOOD QUALITY dvr and fully explain to them and show them the difference between the equipment the other guys will give them and the equipment and you will provide. I bring my laptop and show them video of other dvrs and ours along with our cameras. Remember people will only pay for a more expensive dvr if they see VALUE in it. Thats where you or your salesman comes in. Alot of people dont know much about dvr's. Thats where you pretty much have to educate them on the features and benefits of the product you are providing. One thing to remember, Your not selling anything! Your providing a service to people that they desperalty need! So why provide them with a product that is not what they need? I promise you if you find a good higher end Dvr and learn that dvr inside and out and can relay that to your prospects, then price wont be an issue. If you provide a good system then you will have more referalls! Which means more money for you!

    Securetek products

I used securetek a couple of times. Not bad products I would not install them and give a warranty though. But not bad midline products isaac
  19. thats the way we generally do it but have been finding it much more efficiant to do it backwards. Especially when using cat 5 and running several cameras off one cable.
  20. Hey I have a question. What size hard drives do you guys generally provide with your dvrs? What is the minimum, average, and maximum you put in? 4 channel 8 channel 16 channel I generally like to put in atleast 480 if it is anything above a 4 channel. Really because when I am trying to close them I will always get good amount of prospects to go ahead with the system if i can get them atleast a month record time. Even longer when on motion. I have put in 3 Terabytes before on one 16 channel dvr. Oh ya and that also is recording 30 frames per second per channel.
  21. Hey rory and data dave man I am still trying to get that thirty two camera install done. Well we mounted our last 4 on the 3rd floor and looking at the monitor I see what looks like black rolling smudges being rolled across the screen is spots. I dont know what it is. I am using cat 5. These 3 runs are 75 feet long and not run along any ac. any ideas? isaac
  22. already tried that i dont get that I only get that on these 3 cameras that are the highest cameras on the top level on the grid ceilings I dont know if the location has anything to do with it. It seems like it would seeing as how they are the only ones doing it. But I cant think of any lodgical reason.
  23. funny you should ask we where suppose to use nitek but ups lost our shipment from them. So in order to do the install on time we had to buy them locally. I forget exactly what brand name they are but something with west coast theme. It has a picture of california on the info sheet. "I hope you are asking what brand" if not they are just passive transcievers terminal to bnc
