  1. I am not on one side of the ip - dvr debate. I sit right in the middle. About 50% of our installs now are IP based. So I am not one to be one sided on this at all. Think both have their place in two extremely large markets. And so we implement both wherever either one of them is needed. But the only reason I posted that with a give me a break headline was the fact that the writer of the article did not report accurate information. He pushed his own product that he sells through this article. And one way to do this was to make it seem that this product that he sells is 110% no brainer because it is much less expensive and of higher quality. He altered the facts and distorted the entire outlook on these systems. Thats what I wanted someone to give me a break about.

    Panasonic ptz wv-cs954

if you are able to get into the menus then you should able to use the auto tracking. The 650 controller is well worth the $. We have sold several systems because friends of the person we installed one for would see and use the controller and cameras and would want exactly the same thing! It is like no other controller. Plus you get to feel like your flying a airline jet with the joystick! the 974's advanced auto tracking will be able to distinguish direction of object and then will respond based of your pre configured settings. Also it will zoom in on objects and auto track if you want it to.

assuming that the dvrme does have panasonic protocol then yes you connect it to the rs485 port. But do not forget to set up the unit number baud rate, 4 line/2 line settings via the dip switches. I am sure you probably knew that but thought I would mention it before you put it up. Hey i have seen it happean before!

    Problem with Spot Monitor Camera

well ideally this is not the best way to set up your cams. You want to run your cams back to a some head end unit like a multiplexer/dvr/distribution amplifier. Then run your video feeds to the spot monitors. I know it sucks for installation but still the way to go.
  5. ya mier makes great products. We use some of their outdoor weatherproof enclosures sometimes. But in an instance where power could be issue we have run a dedicated circuit and then be sure to put a camera on the circuit breaker and a good lock. oh and a guard dog! at the air base we put systems in their dormatory's. And of all places on that base the dorms need them the worst. Those kids are idiots! They think they are in college and go crazy in those dorms. Well we had the same thing happean at three different dorms. Where they flipped the breaker to the office where the head end was and the kids went and did a bunch of crazy ****! I mean if you want to know pm me and I will tell you. But anyways little did they know that the power going to the surveillance system was a on a dedicated circuit! good thing for dedicated circuits and IR cameras. oh ya and a broken pool table that gave a excellent staging area!

    Panasonic ptz wv-cs954

i dont have experience with a 954 and a ge dvrme. But i do have experience with a 954 and remote viewing. Pretty much exactly what ryan said. I would highly recommend getting the panasonic dvr as you it has up the coax control straight from the dvr.
  7. Man there is a install we just did that something is getting one over on me. I have a 8 channel dvr on a new small network for a 24 hour fitness center. The network is only the dvr and a laptop going to a linksys router and speedstreem 5100 modem. I keep losing communication after a few days. Over and over and over again. I cant tell if its the router (third one) or the isp, modem, or what the hell is giving problems. This one is about to make me go postal. any thoughts?
  8. i dont know about Ir but i am sure all the insulation i have breathed in does not help
  9. i dont think that ir can hurt your eyes because ir light is all around us all the time. we just dont see it. so how can it hurt your eyes?
  10. hey rory i am looking at resorts at different places. Should I like into bahamas ? Is their vacation resorts worth going to? If so which ones? Which island?

    High Quality Business System

what makes them want to get into the business? and what business are they in currently? Based off what you posted is seems to me that your employers have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go before they need to jump into the security industry. Get some experience, training, and a general knowledge of functionality. Because what you posted gave me a headache just reading it. There is nothing wrong with wanting to expand a business to explore other markets. But you have to understand that unless you have a good knowledge of how to properly design, configure, and implement an EFFECTIVE system then you could be possibly really compromising the stability, security, and overall safety of the individuals that would be using this system. Alot of people think that its no bid deal. But its protecting Peoples lives Property Physical Assets and everything else you can categorize.
  12. well assuming that they could get a wide enough angle it in a perfect situation they could do it with 2 cameras. but those are few and far between.

    10G Networks

Won’t that be nice? Talk about possibilities. This will open up the IP world and truly allow plug on play on existing networks without to many issues. Comments?

    Pany CP484 vs Cw374?

i wondered that myself. And what I was told was that the 374 is an all inclusive ready to go housing/camera/lens/mount package with a sleek look to it. So I never myself got one. I would go with the 484 and just get a housing and mount. the 374 is only SDII

    Back Focus Question

woops did not see you wrote that. Kind of sounded redundant

    Back Focus Question

ya we have gotten to where we dont ever turn up the sensitivity. I will definitly look weird. It will actually look good when nothing is there. But when it goes by it will be a blur. I would turn the sens off. Switch to BW and add IR.

    Back Focus Question

you mean wv-cw474 wv-cp is the standard box camera style and if it is the wv-cw474 then switch the dip switch to make it switch from color to bw at a higher light level. Because its not even switching.

    Back Focus Question

wmv 474?????? what is that? never heard of that model. are you sure you did not mean wv-cw474
  21. amen to that! Especially the past year and a half. They have gotten REAL strict on paperwork. Apparently there was an article about how the military was buying refrigerators for $1900 when the average Joe could go buy it for 900. And there was a big uproar and so now they are a pain to deal with. Well I mean even MORE of a pain. I am assuming this is going out for R.F.Q. so dont price yourself out of it. Unless you have GSA # and are listed as a sole source/unique service provider then you dont have to worry about other bids. But they should have already put out detailed specs on this project and so should have alot of requirements and “equal to" guidelines. Be sure to get a copy of all of this make sure you DONT ASSUME ANYTHING! Get everything in writing! Because if you dont in the end you can loose your ass. Because believe me of all people in here I know that they will expect a certain thing or functionality. And if you dont provide it, or provide paperwork that stated what you would and would not be expected to provide, you will be sorry. Government will make walking through a door way a 25 step process with inspections for days. So expect delays. But in the end government can be a huge cash cow. You just have to learn how to deal with them and what to expect. Good luck.
  22. i would like to test it out. , never got the cams from the first time you said you were going to send some out. Guess you dont think we can sell enough cameras.
  23. not to be the negative one but cameras dont deter crime. I am sure the members in here that are dealers/installers can show you tons of video of people doing their criminal activity right in the face of cameras. Sometime to the actual cameras themselves. Might as well get it on good video when they do though!
  24. thsoe camera master 2 are excellent. Well worth the money. It has paid for itself time and time again. 750 is not bad. Knowing how handy those things are now and how much time they will save you I would have paid 1100.
