    POE or no POE

We do sell NVRs with integrated POE; but we never use them ourselves in our installations. Always external POE switches.

    TVI Standalone UTC Controller

Hikvision calls it "Hikvision-C", check out the first screenshot. http://www.securamente.com/hdtvi-como-usar-el-osd-en-las-camaras-que-lo-soporten/ With Hikvision DVRs you can access the OSD menus with either "menu" or "iris+". I have actually only used HDTVI with Hikvision units, so I can not tell you about TVT.

Make sure your PTZ settings on the DVR are ok.

    Determining Camera Lens

It should also say so on the sticker on the box.
  5. You are probably not configuring it right on iVMS-4200. You have to use the SDK port, not the web port.

Wiring for a full system update

You might have to rewire, if your current RG59 cable sucks. It depends on many factors, the quality of your current cable, the cable lengths, if you are using 720p or 1080p video, ...

Wiring for a full system update

You can reuse the old wiring and go with HDCVI or HDTVI cameras, that will allow you to go up to 1920x1080.
  8. That will do if you do have a static IP.
  9. Then the problem is not with hik-online, but with your ISP, and whatever proxy method they are using. If http://www.whatismyip.com/ detects xxx.xxx.13.171, so will hik-online, and any other DDNS method you try to use (dyn.com, no-ip, etc). Do you have static IP? If so, just use always xxx.xxx.13.4 for connecting, and forget about the hik-online domain. If it is not static, ask your ISP how much they charge for static IP and consider geting it. And do not bother with meye. iVMS-4500 works fine, the problem you are having is with your public IP, you will have it fom a web browser, from iVMS-4500, and you would have it with any other method you tried to use.
  10. If you already have Hikvision cameras, I say go for the Hikvision NVR.
  11. When you go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ what do you get? xxx.xxx.13.171 or xxx.xxx.13.4? Also, are you trying the hik-online domain from inside your own network, or from outside?
  12. They say that "you get what you pay for". You buy at crap prices? You will get crap. There are good products coming from China. But if you expect to get them as cheap as possible, well, you know what you will get then.
  13. Wow, an external SCSI port, really? That unit must be very old. I really do not think it is worth your time to "learn" how it works. Seeing that it is only 4 channels, if the cameras still work fine, just buy a new DVR.
  14. Keep in mind iVMS-4200 can adapt the stream you are using depending the size of the monitor/resolution. It does not make sense to watch 16 stream at 1920x1080 unless you have a 7680x4320 resolution desktop/screen, which I doubt you have. If you have your screen resolution at 1920x1080, when you are watching 16 cameras, iVMS-4200 will use the substream, which you can have set at a lower resolution. When you double click a camera to make it full screen, then it will change to the main stream.
  15. That is a rebranded Dahua NVR. It should be compatible with those Vivotek cameras, if they support ONVIF, otherwise you might have a hard time geting them to work (if at all). The fact that it states it is compatible with Vivotek cameras does not mean it will work with all Vivotek cameras.

    New install - bad image

Picture of those "passive baluns"? Also, you should have used the 6 extra wires for power, and not just two.

    Hikvision NVR Decoding Capability

Yes, it also applies to live viewing. Keep in mind that with IP cameras the encoding is done at the camera level. So when you are viewing a stream on the NVR, it has to be decoded by the unit.
  19. http://www.samsungsv.com/Product/Detail/53/Samsung-SDE-4002N-8-Channel-DVR-Security-System Go to resourse download. Download the user manual in ZIP format, uncompress. Open the manual, go to page 14. Here you can see the connection it uses for the RJ45 connectors. You will need to either find baluns that use the exact same wiring diagrams (I think it won't be easy), or do the connections yourself. If you are able to get the cameras working, then you might go ahead and use any brand DVR. You could even use the current DVR to power the cameras, and just take out the 2 video cables from the UTP cable, use an external balun, and use another DVR to record. So the old non working DVR would be there just acting as a power supply for the cameras. It might get messy. If the system is very old, it might be worth to just reuse the existing cable, and get a new system from scratch.

    HD-TVI vs IP

It doesn't look bad to me. It is 1920x1080. Are the colors off from reality? You can try adjusting them from both the DVR and the camera. Do you know that camera has OSD menus that can be adjusted from the DVR? Check this out, it is in spanish, but it should give you a good hint on how to do it. http://www.securamente.com/hdtvi-como-usar-el-osd-en-las-camaras-que-lo-soporten/ You should also check out the bitrate and picture quality you are using for your main stream.

    HD-TVI vs IP

Can you post a good resolution screenshot of what you are geting? You can make it easily from the web interface. That HDTVI DVR is 720p/1080p, make sure you have your streams configured to 1080p, since the camera DS-2CE16D5T-AVFIT3 is 1080p. Those are good cameras, and you should be geting a very good 1920x1080 image if everything is done right.
