    Monitors?

Of course, if your monitor is 1280x720 you will not see any difference on image quality, unless you zoom in on the camera. But keep in mind that even if you see the images at 720p, if you record at a higher resolution, the better quality WILL be on ¡the recordings if you ever need it.
  2. Nice to see this solved, even if it took over a year.

    DVD drives in DVRs

If cost goes in the equation, I would rather supply a free email/download link. If cost is not in the equation, I would rather supply a USB drive.

    DVD drives in DVRs

Really? I do not know what DVRs you use, but I have not seen a DVR that comes by default with a DVD drive for quite a few years, and I have not used myself a DVD in a long time (other than the random manual/drivers that comes on CD/DVD).

    Are my cameras compatable???

They are, everything analog is compatible (as long as they use the same system, PAL or NTSC).
  6. It would. I guess then that what you want to do is connect the PIR to your alarm system, and the alarm system to the Hikvision "alarm in".
  7. There are no good USB capture cards. At all. I would go as far as to say there are no decent USB based capture cards.

    What power adapter

350xmA x 4 cameras = 1.4A. That's what you need. You will need more A if you use long cables. For the price difference, for 4 cameras I usually go for a 12V 5A power supply, but you could even use 2A.
  9. Yes, you can do so. But why would you want to do that? You could just wire the PIR to both the "alarm in" on the Hikvision, AND your security panel. Why go through the camera? You do not need the Hikvision camera to get that working.
  10. We have only had 1 WD Purple unit fail so far; and if I remember correctly, it was a DOA unit. But they have only been on the market for about one year, so it is probably too eaely to tell.

What are the specifications on that PC?

connect DVR to laptop by hdmi

You can't. The HDMI connection on your laptop is a HDMI *output*, not an input. It is for connecting the laptop to a TV/monitor, not for connecting something to the laptop, and using it as a monitor.

    hard drive usage

    Then there is the explanation

    hard drive usage

Nope. Are you using variable bitrate? That would make a difference. Otherwise, if both of you are recording at a fixed bitrate with the exact same settings, video files should be the same.
  15. No, you won't. The cameras support POE, there's no need to split the power on the camera's end. A POE camera gets the power from the network cable/connector. Edit: Not a chance I would connect one of my cameras to that... Don't take risks, buy a switch or NVR that supports POE, and don't throw away money with junk like that.

    HDD status error, help please

Bad hard drive, time to replace it.
  17. I am making some quick guides for our customers. One of the things I am doing is explain them how to use the alarm output on their devices. With Dahua it can be done from DMSS, DMSS HD, PSS, Smart PSS; and web interface. With Hikvision it can be done with iVMS-4500, iVMS-4500 HD, iVMS-4200... But I have been unable to find any way to do it from the web interface. I pretty much know everything on the web interface for Hikvision, so I do think I am not missing anything; it is just not there. Am I just wrong and I might have just missed it?
  18. Cool, I think it should not be hard to have there. All the DVRs, NVRs and IPCs I have tried this one DO have alarm outputs, but there are no options to use them from the web interface. They can easily be triggered from iVMS-4200 and iVMS-4500.
  19. I think he means if the web browser can remember wat channels you are viewing, and how. Like, I have a 16ch NVR. But I want to view a 3x3 grid. I want to see channels the main stream on channels 1-2-3, and the substream on channels 4-6-8-10-12-14. And next time I open the web browser, I would like to see all that, without having to do it by hand again. I think the answer is no, you can not remember it. If you want to remember views, use iVMS-4200.

Glad you got it figured out

    Networking assistance for DDNS please

Check your DVR network settings. Check what ports it is using, and forward all needed ports. From what I see this is a rebranded Hikvision unit. So by default it uses 3 ports, 80 for web, 8000 for data, and 554 for RTSP. If you do not forward RTSP port, you won't have video streaming.

    abnormal brightness hikvision camera

Is the bright square on the DVR, or on the camera? Try changing the camera to another channel on the DVR, to see if the brightness is also there. If it is there, then it is on the camera. I would have thought that the HDTVI 720p cameras from Hikvision do not have OSD menus, but I have not tried them. From the web interface you can use Menu/Iris+ to access the OSDs, which you can navigate with up/down/left/right/Iris+ (Iris+ is OK)

    Networking assistance for DDNS please

Are you using port 80 for the web interface, and you forwarded it on the router? Try using a different port (change the web port on the DVR, and forward the external port on the router to your DVRs IP address).
  24. Thanks, I know how to program alarms, I don't need that document. What I am looking for is a way to *manually* activate the alarm outputs on the web interface. Something like what can be done with Dahua on the attached screenshot.
  25. I am talking about Hikvision's web interface; DVR with alarm inputs/outputs, NVR with alarm inputs/outputs, or IP camera with alarm inputs/outputs. They all have alarm inputs/outputs, and I do not know of any way to activate the outputs from the web interface. Am I missing it? Or just there is no way to do so from the web interface?
