  1. In camera motion detection: Camera tells the NVR "hey, there are things moving now, record!" NVR motion detection: Camera just sends video feed to the NVR all the time. NVR analyzes the video stream to see if there is any motion, and if so, it records (or does whatever it is told to do). Since the NVR is the one analyzing the video all the time, it needs/uses more CPU power on the computer.
  2. That would look like crap, but it could work. But I am quite sure your analog to IP adapter only allows to configure one set of PTZ data, so you probably would not be able to send commands to two different addresses. So when you want to move the PTZ scanner, you would have to edit the config, change the address, go back to live view,... Doesn't look that useful.

Cannot view my cameras using my wan ip

Use a port other than 80 for web access to your DVR.
  4. Those two cameras are Hikvision and Dahua. You shouldn't have any problem geting both of them to work with Milestone.
  5. They are the same. If you want invisible IR you should look for 900nm IR. I am quite sure that 99.9% of normal cameras do not carry them. But these cameras also are not for hiding. You could forget about the IR of the camera, and get the IR somewhere else (900nm).

    Hikvision ds-2cd2032

Of course you can, like you can do so with any other camera. Removing the case and IR would help a lot if you want to make the camera smaller.
  7. Any IPC from Dahua that has audio will work.
  8. He will just need an external power supply (which I thought he needed anyway; I do not know if the alarm outputs on the camera provide any power at all). Most of the Hik cams just come with plain wires (whatever the reason, it would not cost them that much to put one of those IO blocks). I will try to snap a picture later.
  9. APM-JP8105-WS and APM-JP4045-WS are the best for baby monitor, they are dirty cheap. No idea on US vendors, we are from Spain. http://www.securame.com/camara-ip-apexis-apm-jp8015ws-pan-tilt-10-leds-640x480-audio-wifi-p2p-p-1535.html http://www.securame.com/camara-ip-apexis-apm-jp4045ws-10-leds-640x480-audio-wifi-p2p-p-1537.html They are only 640x480, but you are looking for a baby cam, you do not need full HD resolution for face recognition, etc. They both have wifi. They both have bidirectional audio, but from the smartphone app you can only listen or tali, but not both things at the same time (at least it was this way last time I checked). Hik cameras are also great. But if you want to use IP Cam viewer pro you will not have audio, with both Apexis and Hikvision.
  10. Nice post, thanks! " title="Applause" />
  11. Yes and yes; any siren/alarm can be connected to the alarm output on the Hik IP cameras. You should probably make a more specific question... Or just buy any siren like the ones I showed you, and if you are unable to get it working, then make a question.
  12. I think for a baby monitor Wifi is way better than wired/POE. That way you can move it anywhere in the house where you have a power outlet, wherever the kid goes, the camera goes. There are some cheaper cameras with audio and P2P (we use Apexis). I think audio is a must for a baby monitor. P2P is great for those that do not want to bother with configuration, that way you only need to scan a QR code on the camera and presto, you can view the camera from mobiles and tablets without doing any more config (from inside and outside the network).
  13. This. You would film your neighbors yard instead of your wall. Another hint (which you might or might not like); turn the camera 90º, so it shows you a vertical image.

Yes, that would be it. If the resolution is good enough for you, then a DVR could do the job. You would also need a VGA to analog adapter, so you could connect the VGA output on the computer to a viden input on the DVR.

You could surely use a DVR; 10 users at 25fps is not a problem. But keep in mind that a DVR uses analog video, which means that you would be working at D1@25fps (that is 704x576 on PAL, I think something like 704x480@30fps on NTSC). If you plan on streaming a computer desktop, that is not even close to a good idea.

How about TeamViewer? I think that software would be the way to go here.

If it is a computer, why not use something like VNC? VNC can be used from any browser, and you can configure it so the remote users just watch, without being able to control the computer.
  18. Nothing else to do, just forward your ports the right way. Some ISPs block 554, some routers do not like 80 open from the world, but I have never had a problem with 8000. You might have done something wrong.
  19. Is it me, or the 5.1.6 version only had ensligh version? With 5.1.2 I did get many languages to choose from, but with 5.1.6 I only have english.

    HDD Storage Deterioration

Constant or variable bitrate; movement on the scene. It is not the same if a camera is staring on an empty room, or looking at a busy street.

    sentient dvr password??

Looks like a Dahua made unit. The password is 888888, and not 88888888 (just six '8'). Try: admin/admin 888888/888888 Also, there is a way of geting daily password's for Dahua units. Password for today (18/Jun/2014) would be 438656.
  22. The options are there on the web interface on my 2032 and 2132 units.

    HDD Storage Deterioration

HD capacity does not "shrink". Please clarify how you check HD capacity, if you are looking at hours of stored video, it will vary depending on many factors, like resolution, compression, etc. A 4Tb hard drive will be a 4Tb hard drive, no matter on what DVR you install it.
