  1. What HD are you trying to use? Is it powered externally, or are you trying to power it from the DVR?
  2. Cameramandi, gDMSS and iDMSS are the same app. There is no such thing as gDMSS for iOS, the iOS app is called iDMSS, and the Android app is called gDMSS. Dahua also gives the source code to many Dahua suppliers, and they make "rebranded" versions of the program. IP Cam Viewer Pro for Android is quite nice. I do not use iOS, but if you have it available for iOS, I would give it a try.
  3. That should do it. And yes, I am in Spain.
  4. I'm sure you have already searched, but what you are looking for is something like the following: $20 is a good price. Keep in mind that your DVR video quality on the BNC output will be far worse than that of the VGA output; since it is just a monitor in the kitchen, I guess that won't be a problem.
  5. Maybe they had different lens; or maybe they had the same lens, but they were different sensor size. A camera with 1/4" sensor and 3.6mm lens will give you a narrower angle than a camera with a 1/3" sensor and also a 3.6mm lens. But I would say that 99% of analog cameras now come with a 1/3" sensor, so if they do have the same lens, they should give you the same angle.
  6. If the ports show up as open and connectable, you are probably just not configuring iVMS-4500 right. How are you configuring the device?
  7. It is not. The TVL tells you how many lines the sensor has; the lens tells you what angle (field of view) you will have. A 1000tvl 3.6mm camera is going to give you the exact same view as a 700tvl 3.6mm camera, but with more resolution. The angle will be the same.
  8. Push has never been available on the free/lite version, only on the paid version. From what I have known; push is broken right now on Android devices. I actually do not know how push works, and I thought there was no "server" or anything in the middle that could stop working. Now I don't think the same any more. I have tried 4 Dahua units, with 3 different internet connections, 3 different Android devices, and many different gDMSS Plus versions (also gDMSS HD). Nothing worked. But with an iPhone everything works like a charm. I have been told it broke with the last gDMSS update; I am sure that is not right, since I have also tried with older versions, and it doesn't work. I have also been told push notifications depend on third party servers, which I never knew, and right now there is something broken awaiting to be fixed. Dahua knows about the problem, but they are too busy celebrating the chinese new year, so I guess that we will have to wait a while. Hopefully someday Hikvision will finally get push notifications working, I have been waiting for them for over a year and a half...

    Internet Bog when remote viewing

It really depends on how many cameras you want to see at the same time, what resolution and bitrate they use, etc... We used to have just 1mbps upload bandwidth when we had just an analog system (16 cameras) It was more than enough. Now we also have IP cameras, and the main streams are like 1920x1080 4mbps. So I could not even watch the main stream on one channel remotely, which I needed in order to demo the cameras. Now we have 10mbps upload bandwidth, which means we can easily see two cameras at 1920x1080 4mbps from remote, and everything will still run great in the office. You just need to know what resources you have available, and how to get the best use of those resources according to your requirements.

0.61mbps upload is quite crappy. If you want to watch 8 cameras remotely at the same time, that would give you about 0.07mbps per camera, and you would be maxing out the upload bandwidth, so using the connection for anything else at the same time would make you feel like you are on dialup.

    D1 or 960H

960H, also called WD1 (Wide D1). 960H is basically D1 but in "wide screen" format, so it has more pixels on the sides.

What is your upload bandwidth? Upload, not download. Also, with some DVRs you can watch the main stream, or the substream, which is a lot lighter. How much you can stream will depend on your DVR/NVR, resolution, bitrate, how many cameras you watch at the same time, your upload bandwidth, and even more things.
  13. I don't get it. If you just bought a unit and it arrived dead, why not contact the supplier and have it replaced?
  14. Isn't there a GoPro with wifi? Guess you should be able to get live video with that one?
  15. Hikvision products work well with Dyndns accounts (free and paid). They also offer for free their own DDNS service.
  16. Hi becchett, I can tell you that PUSH notifications also stoped working for me a few weeks ago. I see that the last events I have on my mobile are from 23/Jan, I would have said it stoped working before that. I did not change anything on my DVRs. My mobile is Nexus 4, stock Android 4.3. I can tell it is not related to the DVR, since push stoped working on all the units I use it with (three, they are in different places, different internet connections, all of them still accessible, all of them with ports open and working ok, etc). I updated to the latest gDMSS and it still doesn't work. I really need to take a look at it to get it working again, but I have no idea why it stoped working, I would say without doing any changes. If I have any news I will post back. My work partner has an iPhone with iDMSS, I will see if everything still works with his mobile.
  17. http port is for accessing from a web browser. It is NOT used with iVMS-4200 and iVMS-4500, they use the data port, which by default is 8000 (if you have not changed it, that is).
  18. You do NOT have to connect to port 80 on iVMS-4500 and iVMS-4200. Port 80 is the http port, for accessing from a web browser. From iVMS you have to use the data port (8000 by default, if you have not changed it).

    newbie needs help!

That is one good piece of equipment, yes.
  20. Yes, you can use a monitor like that. My advice, get one that has better resolution, I also have a 4.3" 480x272, and this one you are linking is only 320x240. Good for pointing the camera where you want, but probably not enough for focusing if you have varifocal cameras. I also carry with me a 12V battery, but if you don't want to buy one, you can use a "one to two" power cable, like this, so you can power both camera and monitor at the same time: http://www.securame.com/cable-alimentacion-1x21mm-macho-2x21mm-hembra-p-849.html
  21. It would help. I have seen that magic button on Dahua firmwares, don't know why Hikvision wouldn't also do it, it wouldn't be too hard...
  22. My bad; I understand now that it is indeed a 3.5" hard drive, and not a NAS... I do not know why they would put a "NAS" on the name, the red series is recommended for NAS, so yes, you are good to go. I read on the NVR description: "Works with Dahua, Hikvision, and Dahua IP cameras - MD Recording works on Dahua and Dahua cameras". I would make sure before doing the purchase that you will be able to use motion detection with those Hikvision cameras. Otherwise, I would either change NVR, or cameras.

Help me! - What to buy!

It is not even close to being good. I would not go as far as to call it a crap system, but hey, it is surely better than 16 fake/dummy cameras...
  24. Why would you buy a NVR, and then a NAS? It would make more sense to buy just an internal hard drive for the NVR. Unless you plan on having each camera record on two places at the same time... Maybe you meant to buy a 3.5" hard drive, to install inside the NVR?
  25. Is your arm "schedule" configured? Did you "check" on the motion detection settings that when there is movement it should send an email?
