    newbie needs help!

Not a chance, that is not a rebranded Hikvision.

    Thoughts

No brand DVR, with no brand cameras. I do not know what you expect anyone to tell you... If you are just looking for something cheap, then go ahead. Just do not expect much from it, and that way you won't be disappointed.

    iVMS-4200

How? By live viewing any camera, and hiting the record button on the live feed? No idea, I do not use iVMS-4200 for Mac myself.

    iVMS-4200

I think you can record it from iVMS-4200 for Mac; manually. iVMS-4200 for Mac is always way un-updated (if that exists) when compared to the Windows version. If you want to have the latest version/features, you need to run Windows.

    iVMS-4200

Lol, that sucks sometimes, doesn't it?

    iVMS-4200

    You need iVMS-4200 PCNVR, and not iVMS-4200. http://www.hikvision.com -> support -> download -> client software -> Hikvision iVMS-4200 PCNVR v1.03.00.04 (Windows)
  7. No volume control on Hikvision. I have used audio/microphones many times and never had an issue (not HD-SDI, but that shouldn't make a difference). I would try to plug that mic direct to a TV to see how it sounds.

    DVR MiniTower Build?

From my point of view, trying to set up anything serious with USB recording is crap. But hey, the USB recording devices are cheap, feel free to give them a try... I have tried a few over the years, and they have all been toys. Bad quality, and even worse software.
  9. That sucks... I wonder why it would need to change anything on the camera to just view the live video...

    Port forwarding trouble help

Forward ports 85, 86 and 9000 on your router (192.168.1.1) to your DVR (192.168.1.100) in both TCP and UDP. Or even better, set up your DVR IP (192.168.1.100) as the DMZ host on your router, so all incoming traffic is sent to it. And of course configure the program on your smartphone to connect to your external IP (www.whatismyip.com), and disconnect from the wifi before trying. If you do not have a static IP, you will need a dynamic DNS service.
  11. DS-7608NI-SE/8P does have 4/2 alarms, at least the european model.
  12. How about creating a non-admin account on the camera, and have Synology use that account? If Synology does not use an admin account, it should not be able to reset the MD settings on the camera...

    DVR mobile viewing

Never heard of that DVR; but seeing it uses Meye, I guess it is just some cheap no brand H264 hybrid from China. Only thing I can tell you is, use the mobile program that comes on the CD included with the unit. Do not download it from Google Play/App Store, try it with the one that comes with the unit. If you can not get it working with that, too bad. I have tried some of these cheap units, and sometimes the time I have to investo to get mobile viewing working is more than the cost of the unit. If you can not get it working at all; since you have already forwarded all RTSP ports to each camera, I would just forget about MEye, and use IP Cam Viewer (you have free and paid version on Google Play). With it you might have some luck connecting to the unit, but if you can't, you will be able to view for sure the cameras on the RTSP streams (no playback, but live view is better than nothing).
  14. It has audio input, you need to use a microphone.
  15. 1. You can use Dahua cameras. 2. From what I remember, that model only has 4 POE ports, so you will only be able to connect 4 cameras directly. If you want 8 cameras, you will need an extra switch. That said, by default, you will not be able to connect to the cameras from your network (since the network the NVR creates for the camera is on a different subnet), but I think there is some thread on the forum that explains how to do it. 3. No limitations, you can do everything over the web interface. You do not need any physical access to the NVR once it is up and running.
  16. I do not know anyone who uses the remote control for anything. I am sure once you get used to the remote you must be able to do the basic functions, but with a mouse it is just way easier. And I agree with varascope. DVR/NVRs have improved LOTS over the years, but idiots keep improving way faster.
  17. What makes you think it would be a "better" choice? Having the IP on your camera change randomly seems a good choice to you?

CCTV Dvr - HDMI vs VGA output?

VGA or HDMI, it doesn't matter. They can both do 1920x1080.

    Serious DS-2CD2132-I IR Bleed

Wow, that is a huge difference... 3pc 2CD2132 and 1pc 2CD2032? I would tell you to open upo the domes, and try to adjust the black "rubber" that is around the lens on the camera, so it is touching the glass as much as possible. I do have 2CD2132 myself, and the night image is great.
  20. Well... Yeah. And connecting to the camera and watching the video feed is also an easy process. And it took you three days. Good luck.
  21. It won't, it is a Hikvision tool.
  22. I actually read all of your post, but I am not sure I understand much what you are asking for. Unless it is just a post to spam yourkarma.com, that is... Any IP device that can be used on a fixed internet connection (cable, DSL, whatever) can also be used on an IP cellular connection (3G, 4G, whatever). Any existing wireless camera can already be linked to your wireless router. Then you can check at the extras on each camera (SD storage, audio, outdoors, alarms, relays, etc).

    Help with footage

Not a chance that you get a reading on the license plate with such a wide angle.
  24. How about checking out iVMS-4200 manual...?
  25. You do not have to connect to port 8000. If the web port is 80, you should be connecting to: http://192.168.1.64 (or http://192.168.1.64:80 , which would be the same) and not: http://192.168.1.64:8000
