    Motion Detection over UTP

Never tried, but I would say that yes, you could go 1000ft. In case you need it, if you use UTP cable you could use up to 6 wires for the power. And before you lay the cable, you could just take a new roll of UTP and try it with the cable inside the box. And if you are also installing CCTV, you can just get a DVR that also has alarm inputs, you have plenty of options.

    Motion Detection over UTP

You can use a UTP cable to connect a PIR sensor without much hassle, just use two wires for the contact, and two wires for the power (some PIRs even have tamper, so you could use two extra wires). You will not even need a balun.
  4. What ports did you forward? You need at least 3 ports, web port, data port, RTSP port. You can also try puting your NVR IP as your DMZ host.
  5. @buellwinkle, Have you reviewed the Dahua K100A or K100W? I am eager to see how it performs, I have one unit K100W for testing, but I still have not had the time to even turn it on.
  6. Just wanted to say that that is a great first post ysman, welcome!
  7. Well, it is a NVR unit... It does support PTZ, and you can use it with PTZ IP cams with no problems. But the PTZ commands are not sent over RS485, but over the network. No idea why the RS485 can be used for. I have a DS-7608NI-SE unit myself, and I would say it does have alarm inputs/outputs, but I do not use them.
  8. How about Dahua IPC-K100A? http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-k100-k100a--k100w-225.html White led, POE, real PIR, micro SD, push support on smartphone, alarm input/output, bidirectional audio.
  9. Well, if your DVR only supports one channel playback, and you want 4... As you said, throw it away and get another unit that does what you need. Among others, Dahua will do it.
  10. If there are way too many false positives, then you should look at configuring the MD zones and MD sensitivity to narrow them down. Remove the areas that trigger the false positives from the MD zones. If there are still way too many false positives to make it possible to find a given event, then maybe you should think about installing PIR sensors. Take a look at SafeMotion: http://www.safeware.ca/support.php It can help you detect movements on downloaded videos, you can choose what zones of the video you want to detect. But, for that you need to have the videos locally, so if you are doing it from remote, you would need to download all the videos first, probably time consuming. Some newer softwares also allow you to choose the zones where you want to detect moviment when watching recordings.

  12. Oh, ok, one many rebranded units. That is a DH-DVR1604HF-U. You are not able to add more cameras? Because you will not have any settings to adjust for channers 17 and up until you add a camera on them.

    Camera assembly - 20 meters , 30 meters , 50 meters etc

Really? From the guy that can not even tell the difference between a 1/3" and a 1/4" sensor? viewtopic.php?f=5&t=36601 So now you want to go shopping, buy the case, sensor, lens, IR leds, box, manual, and you will start assembling your own cameras?
  14. Something doesn't sound right to me there, 9116HFI Hybrid DVR from Dahua? I do not know all models from Dahua, but that doesn't sound like a Dahua model to me, and it does sound like a Hikvision DVR: http://www.hikvision.com/es/products.asp?cid=2

    H.264 DVR Networking Setup Help!?!?

http://www.canyouseeme.org Use that web site to check if the ports you have opened are actually reachable. If they are not, there is something wrong in your router config/port forwarding.
  16. Didn't know where to post this, so I will try here. I have a customer that builds darts machines like the following: Each machine has two cameras, one looking at the bulls eye, and the other one looking at the player. The cameras are analog cameras, sensor, lens, and connected to a capture board on the computer inside the machine. Now they are building a new machine, and they want to get rid of the analog cameras/capture card, and replace the cameras with USB cameras. This way the camera will get power from the USB (no additional wiring needed to power the cameras with 12V from the computer power supply) and mainly, so they can get rid of the capture cards, which needs a PCI slot, a big computer, and Windows XP (the new model will have low profile computers). Ideally I would need 2pc USB cameras that give decent image quality (the $US5 webcams just don't do it), from a brand or manufacturer than won't be changing models every year, and hopefully with open source drivers, since the next version of the machine should run some flavour of Linux. Any hints? I also gave them the idea of going IP camera, with two small POE cameras; but that would need more expensive cameras, and at least a small POE switch which would also add to the cost, and also the space inside the machine will be very tight, so they did not like the idea.
  17. This one looks worth giving it a look, thanks!
  18. Thanks! They do look nice, but way out of the price range we are aiming at. Even the cheaper 752 x 480 USB 2.0 camera cost $275 a piece, and we are looking at buying hundreds.

    Facial recognition camera lock

Question is, would you really want anyone with a printed picture of you to be able to unlock that door?
  20. It is quite easy to know if a sensor is 1/3" or 1/4" by the size. Other than that... There are soooo many sensors, even fake ones... so I think you pretty much have no (easy) way of knowing for sure what sensor you got. If you are importing direct from Shenzhen, you need a trustable supplier. If you don't have that, sometimes you might get a good product, other times you might get crap. And if you are shopping mostly for the price, odds are you will end up with crap. Can they build good cameras? Sure. Can they build cheap cameras? Sure. You want good, but also the cheapest? Not gonna happen. Also; the fact that the sensor looks different from another might mean nothing. One batch from sensor might have the same specs from another one, but look different. But if the quality now is worse, well, you got sent a good sample, and now that you bought 100pc it seems you got a lower quality product.

    Video Glasses?

Most of those are just chinese toys, cheap and crappy. Do not expect to get awesome video quality, and do not expect to last for too long (if they do, you got lucky).

    Is There Such a Thing...

Unlkess I had a good reason to do so, I would do the UTP cable all the way to the camera.
  23. Doh, it has a 8mm fixed lens, relly? Makes me wonder why they would make a camera like this and not put in a wider lens, or a varifocal... Have you considered opening the camera to change the lens yourself, or that is not an option?
  24. That is surely one nice piece of equipment... We carry Hikvision NVRs, but I still have not had a customer ask me for a 9632 unit. You must surely have a nice install at home!
