Here is a "fun" one. I get a customer who purchased everything to do the installation himself complaining that the stands I have given him are crap; that they do not fit ok, that he can not move the camera sideways, bla bla... That it is a pain in the ass to orient the camera. He says that for mounting it he needs to make extra holes because the ones the stand has do not fit ok. Without knowing what he was doing I say ok, go ahead and make it as long as it is on the stand, not on the camera. When I went to see the install, this is what I found...

So, wasn't there a thread with pictures of messy installs? I am unable to find it, does anyone have the link?

There it is, the "hall of shame", I had a picture to upload... Thanks!

HIK DS 7204 not overwrite
Securame replied to ducanhtian's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I have installed many 7204 units from Hikvision, maybe I can help if you try to explain your question again... I did not understand much of what you said. -
32 Channel 32CH Standalone DVR recommendation
Securame replied to n0fx's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Dahua does have 32ch units, I would prefer one 32ch unit than 2 16ch units. I have installed a few times DH-DVR3204LE-U (they probably have better 32ch models), it has 4ch D1 25/30fps and the other 28ch are either CIF 25/30fps or D1 6/7fps. -
How is the product? Really 4ch D1 real time, and with decent software at least with GPS informaiton displayed?
-
RS485 is not needed unless you are going to use PTZ cameras. If you want to use alarm input sensors, you just need the DVR to have alarm inputs, you do not even need alarm outputs. Any DVR that has alarm inputs will have alarm triggered recording. Others will have extra options like sending emails, alarm outputs, uploading to center, etc.

Sorry, but I just could not come out with a better subject... I got a coupe of this posters on CPSE, and after being around here for a while folded in half they do not look like so well. I would like to have a nice one printed on cardboard so I can keep handy for testing cameras myself and maybe showing to some customers, does anyone know where I could download an image/PDF, so I can get it printed here in good quality? Thanks!

Where to download one of this for printing?
Securame replied to Securame's topic in General Digital Discussion
Looks awesome, and that would be great for tests on the road. But I would also like to have the smaller one printed for use in our shop and office. -
Ground Loop in System, DVR has Ground, where to connect?
Securame replied to coreyman's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Using only two wires on a Cat5e cable would also be a problem; every balun I have seen that pases 12V power over Cat5 cable uses 2 pairs (4 wires) for the power. -
What kind of HDD we need to choose?

Excuse me? They might be "enough" in most cases, they are cheaper, but they are surely not "best". -
Teltonika Telemarketer is Relentless
Securame replied to MidwestSurveillance's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I do know the company Teltonika, I have two different GPS trackers I purchased from them about 3-4 months ago for testing (we currently sell GPS trackers from another manufacturer). I have never spoken with Irene, and the person I have spoken with has not been hassle. I have still not gotten to fully test their products (lack of time, the two times I have tried, I have not succedeed), and I do get the ocasional call/email asking if I had time to check, if I need any help doing it, etc, but nothing that bothers me. The guy I speak with has never even brought up the subject of their cameras, but I would not have been interested on even trying them. -
Searching through already-captured AVIs for motion.

Searching through already-captured AVIs for motion.
Securame replied to Sirim's topic in General Digital Discussion
Subscribing to this thread; if anyone knows of any program that can easily do that, I would also be interested on knowing. We work with many investigators that sometimes use covert cameras that have no motion detection, worst part is when you have to go through those videos to find any event... -
Hikvision DVRs allow me to setup the Dyndns server being used for updates, which is members.dyndns.org. A different server could be used for updates quite easily. But most (if not all) routers do not allow you to change the Dyndns update server With Dyndns, updating your host is just a http request like the following: http://username:password@members.dyndns.org/nic/update?hostname=yourhostname&myip=ipaddress&wildcard=NOCHG&mx=NOCHG&backmx=NOCHG If afraid.org can be updated like that, it should be easy to do it from any DVR/router that lets you configure the update server.
-
I didn't know about afraid.org, gonna check it out. Do you know if they are compatible with dyndns.org clients? That would be great, since most routers we touch have dyndns.org client.
-
Yeah, it seems they did change it recently... Now you can not use up to 2 hosts for free, like you used to. You can sign up for a monthly trial (credit card needed), if you wish to cancel before you get billed, you can do so, and you wil get to keep the free host you created. I guess they were tired of too many free users...

No problems at all. Only moving part inside the DVR is the hard disk, and it can work ok as long as it is turned 90º (you can have it flat, standing, standing on the edge, etc., you can not have it diagonal). We have also installed many DVRs like that over the years.

cheap OUTdoor solution? under $200
Securame replied to ripnix's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You had many options until you reached point 9. -
Geuterbruck in Spain just plainly sucks... Not talking about their products, which I have been unable to try yet, but the company itself.

Hikvision problem after firmware upgrade
Securame replied to LeonPhelps's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I would say that DS-7204HI-S and DS-7204HVI-S are the exact same machine, but DS-7204HVI-S has the VGA output. The VGA output is one smaller board that could actually be installed/removed easily from the DVR, so I would say that the firmware is probably the same in both models. -

Which DVR card records the highest quality?
Securame replied to flyeye's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
4ch D1 real time with 4008HCI? I have no idea, sorry, but it might be possible. 4204HFVI would give you 4ch D1 real time, but if you are looking at 4ch D1 now, and later expanding up to 8ch 2CIF, 4008HCI might work for you. If you already have it, just try it. -
Hikvision - iVMS 4500 iphone ipad issues
Securame replied to capnbooboo's topic in Digital Video Recorders
The issue on this post has been fixed for months. Hikvision broke something on a iVMS4500 update, everyone who had automatic updates on their iphones/ipads downloaded the broken version. They pulled the bad version from the app store, and reuploaded a fixed version a couple of days later. -
I'll be there too, leaving tomorrow, staying in Shenzhen until Nov/7! Is your company exhibiting on CPSE?
