Wouldn't a polarized filter work? Back in my low-budget retail days we had the same problem with a camera that was aimed at west facing exterior glass door. The sunlight would burn out the CCD in about 3-4 months. We mounted a lens from a pair of polarized sunglasses at the end of the camera lens and never had to replace it again.

No system can guarantee the safety of it's area of protection no matter how many gadgets you install. Can any installer or manufacturer guarantee that an employee won't short the till, a dealer won't deviate from procedure, a customer won't slip and fall, or a gas pump won't have a drive-off once a system is put into place? I think it just comes down to understanding what the client wants and what the local regulations/codes require, like any other install. Find out what the requirements are, do the homework and then make sure you can install the equipment to meet those requirements. If your work is good, you'll get more. But as always, don't take on a job that you're not qualified to do. Happy Holidays to all!

Heavy, complicated, expensive and without any added benefit. I'm suprised we don't already use them here. I'm supposed to get a demo of a soon-to-be-released HD solution and will post any findings here.

Clinton Electronics had a dome camera fully submerged in a fish tank at ISC West. It's part of their Vandal dome series. Mounting a Dome flush is your best option to prevent removal. Any traditional mount provides enough leverage to pull it down regardless of the strength of the screws. Apply enough force on anything with leverage and something will give. Plus, they can't even get a rope around a dome mounted flush.

I've used boxes made by Killark. The have nice rubber cover seals and thick cast blank covers to drill through for mounting and to support the weight.

There is a feature that will "clean up" even the worst video from any source. It's called "one button enhance". Here's how it works: The tech produces grainy video from a cell phone, and digitally zooms in - distorting the image beyond recognition. Then the guy behind him says "can you enhance that?". The tech pushes one button and... Voila! License plate from 300 yards away. The only problem is that this feature is only available on CSI.

The heater not only keeps the camera in "normal" operating temerature range, but helps keep the dome from fogging or frosting. If you ever need to use the defrost or heater for your car's windshield (assuming you have a car in D.C), then you'll need a heater for your outdoor camera enclosures.

How many vehicles pull in at a time? Do they park parallel or perpendicular to the road? Does your state DOT require both front and rear license plates? Does the recording device need to be in close proximity? These questions are mostly rhetorical as I think you’re correct with getting a vehicle path established first. Control your physical environment as much as you can and then go at it with electronics. Create a choke-point. If there is concern about someone intentionally blocking or damaging the camera, you can put up a sacrificial hide-in-plain-sight “dummyâ€

I know this post is old, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the Covi cameras in a gaming environment. Is G-MEN saying he can just identify pips and suits live-view using the camera zoom or can he see them after the fact using digital zoom from the DVR?
