Are you an end user or a dealer/ integrator? -
I seem to be having more and more of those this keep-it-simple-stupid moments here lately.

I have a Liftmaster 1000sdr opener (screw drive). Roughly 10 years old. Yes, it's probably time to replace but I'm cheap. Problem: within 3-4 seconds of mashing the open/close button, the door reverses direction and the lights blink for 5 seconds. It's been doing this off and on for the past year or so. It was only being affected during the hottest summer months, but now it's doing it every time. Last summer it was doing it pretty bad, but I was able to spray some silicone lube into the screw drive and this instantly remedied the situation. Until now... The safety infrared beam sensors are not obstructed in anyway, and they test fine. I test them by blocking them and seeing the greed LED go out. I've pulled the cord on the door, so the opener no longer lifts the door... It still does the reverse thing. Sometimes it will slide 2/3 the way down the track before it reverses... I'm thinking an internal safety? Does it somehow sense amp draw from the motor? Is the motor just getting weak? If so, is there a pot or something than can be adjusted? I know these semi-modern openers have safeties that "sense" when the door hits an obstruction (not related to infrared sensors)... perhaps this is malfunctioning? Any ideas?

thanks for the help! Last night I cracked er open. I checked the cap and all gears... I popped off the belt for the screw drive, it was still doing the start/ stop thing. Motor seemed to be in good shape, not pulling excessive amps or anything. Had to be electrical... sure enough, it was those friggin IRs! Closer inspection to the read light and it was barely flickering. From more than 2 feet away it would appear solid. Wow, I felt dumb! Lol

all the way for what? -
Adam, how do you put food on the table? Yes, careers can also be hobbies... but that's besides the point. Tom is right... there are also liabilities associated with something like that... The views expressed on a forum environment are those of individuals. Some are right, some are wrong. To present information in the context of representng a group or ogranization... it gives the illusion of credibility. If we're wrong or someone uses/ misuses that information that's a bad thing... Given the nature of and responsiibilities associated with the security industry...I wouldn't participate. Neat idea though!

Is Geovision The Best Option?
bpzle replied to fas's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I only do business with people that return my phone calls and emails. People that actually do what they promise me they will do... I hold myself to the highest customer service standards. I can't do business with those that don't do the same. If they don't bother to answer my calls before I give them my money, why would they afterwards? In my opinion, Geovision can keep their junk... -
Hello! Welcome! I think you'll find everyone here very friendly... The only thing pros get upset over is when people choose not to take the time to explain the environment and application. A one-size-fits-all CCTV system just doesn't exist. They are way too many variables... Also, I can assure you you're not doing yourself any favors by buying the cheapest thing available. Help us help you.

Just a little advice... Don't expect people to fish for you. If they do, be ware of their intentions. Your question is entirely too broad... you're lucky you got a reply at all.

Thanks for the input!

I'm still waiting to hear about the "value".... I promise, I am unbiased. I only call it like I see it. You have the floor.
-
And by the way... I never defined what I meant by "enviornment."

Personally, I think diverse thinking is the key to success... Look at some of the most successful businsses, they don't just "do" one thing... Here in Texas, no one is impressed with a "one trick pony." I think near sighted, short term gain and ultimatley greed, even arrogance make you go bankrupt and fail in any business or aspect of life. Old habits die hard though... What we "do" today is what defines us tomorrow. I'm 25... I hope tomorrow is better for me.

In the perfect environment I could lay on the beach all day long, not have to work for a living. LOL! Point taken... But seriously... I feel pretty lucky.

Neither.

So your clients have endless pockets? Especially in this recession? Value for money, best bang for buck, thats what its all about. Regardless of the client, first thing you should ask is what is their budget. If they dont have a budget, then knock yourself out, but that is rare in this day and age. I disagree. In the right environment, you can choose your clients. Not the other way around.

Price does not equal value
-
Actually I've been recommended by an electronics engineer that this is probably best "solution" to ground loops... albeit a dirty one... If you have issues using a traditional 12v distributed PSU, take the problem devices and power them locally or SEPERATELY. That's the exact opposite of what you're recommending???
-
Most of the customers I come in contact with care more about the value. And if they don't, I tell them to go to Costco.
-
I will agree that price should not always be equated with value. Care to fill in the blanks for us on the VALUE of your products? I cannot personally vouch for them, so you have the floor. And please, limit the "spec sheet" material that can easily be Google'd.

Cisco makes modular devices for special apps.... but plan on paying out the arse.
