3 Camera Home CCTV System - Help Required Please

dead link for me too... but I did notice THIS: Hmm... that's what everyone starts out looking for... "primary goal: BUDGET! more money in my pocket, now I can move on and be about MY business.... cool for a while, then so what... life goes on... who CARES about cameras...UNTIL WE NEED THEM. CRAP!! That fuzzy ant broke into my car at 3:25AM... CRAP if I could only give something to police that they won't laugh at.... why did I spend $50 (usd) on a camera? Should have spent $150... Dang! It would TOTALLY be worth it to me NOW to have spent just that much more..." What do you think? Could you imagine yourself having that conversation with yourself one day??? The point is: there's balance. YES there's a need for security. NO, it doesn't make sense to spend $1,000,000 on a system to protect your home... The key here is: what is YOUR return on investment??? Are my troubles temporary or permanent? Do I need a temporary solution or a (semi) permanent one? -

My friend, I was and am not the only person confused about where you are going with all of that, what your real questions are... HELP US HELP YOU. Why should I dig through endless amounts of information to help a stranger?? I'm very familiar with the product you are using, but don't care for the arrogance you are projecting. Why should I help you? Why should anyone help you? Why am I still typing....

VST_Man: Welcome back! Yes I know the types of customers you speak of... I speak to/ try to avoid them on a regular basis! They have their place... In your opinion, could they perhaps also be "type D" people? Or do they warrant an entire new class... "E"? Were YOU perhaps once a former "type d"??? hmmmmm..... Come to think of it, did I used to be a "type D"???? ....hmmmm.......food for thought!! -
Yup. Like anything else... its a trade off. Don't expect too much of the technology for that price tag... This isn't year 3011.....

I'm confused... What are you REALLY asking here? What do you REALLY want to know?

Horrible MS Paint?!?! Oh no buddy!! That's AWESOME!!! I wish all of the people coming on this site asking questions would be this detailed and committed... It really helps! In all honesty, you may save more money in the long run by having professional, unbiased, honest, and committed help.... That's what a company like mine specializes in. Tomcctv would probably be a better fit for you though, as he is in the UK and I'm in the US. You can still install the equipment yourself, that's not a problem. What professionals will help you with is not just selecting the right technology for your needs and budget... but ultimately by putting you in something that will give you the return on investment you are looking for. This isn't just a matter of finding the cheapest materials and doing it yourself... This isn't a matter of going to a hardware store and building your own fence in a weekend... That's the mistake most people make for CCTV.... MOST DIYers fall into one of these categories: A: not honest with themselves and are probably never truly happy with their system. B: Are not as well skilled/ educated on the topic as they may think they are to even realize that their system is crap and a waste of money. C: People who truly NEED a solution, don't have the time/ money to play around, and recognize the value of getting professional help. These people are generally happiest with the end results... However.... you also have your type D of do-it-yourselfers (DIYers)... They love to play with technology, don't mind making mistakes.... and have the funds to make mistakes... There's a few of these DIYers floating around the forum right now that you need to pair up with, if you are a type D DIYer.... -

Panasonic has a "toy" cctv line... they call them "Pet Cams". I'd say if you are only wanting to look at your killer Chihuahua all day, these are a perfect fit. http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/shop/PetCams.list.84502_11002_7000000000000005702 Are those what you were referring to when you mentioned D Link and Panasonic in the same sentence Quantum??? Something tells me you're not referring to the big bad Panasonic lines that not even most of my customers can afford..... -
Agreed... my problem was decoding h.264. Needs big bad pc, if client/server on one machine..... depending on ch and other variables obviously... We settled on 2mp, 5fps, mjpeg I believe... gave us what we needed. Compromised, but customer was happy. all that matters... Server only setup I would imagine to be different story?

John.... WOW. Thank you! Great post. Where did you come from buddy? Lol we need to compare notes! I've used 1231... Have my first Vivotek in test on front porch... Just curious...what was the speed of that Razor/ ATV? -
Nope, exactly the same FOV. Bean00 what i was saying was not to record in D1 (like bosh says) cif/ 2cif/ does not matter which. the software you get with the camera is what you zoom into the plate with not the dvr. (you do the zooming on a pc it also comes with enhacement tools) using a lens calculator .............. yes its fine for a standard camera the REG-X at 8.3m is dead will not see anything at all .......... so no point using the lens calculator. am trying to get permision so as i can give birdman an ip to 3 REG-X cameras i should have it monday as i use the bosh REG-X for campsites and the barrier control (which will be the link) i dont understand why use this camera just in the way you would use a standard camera it was not designed for that use. you could use a camera like this http://www.videcon.co.uk/product_details.php?StockID=1203&l1=3&l2=23 ........ it will get plates day and night at a good range also colour of car and detail. and you will save $700 that is what i cant get my head around this post Scruits set-up is very good even had comments on it. and scruits system is my point he has the licence plate and you can also see it is a subaru forester (good car i had one when i lived in westvirgina) and its done with a stanard camera. the REG-X will only give you a plate in a black image. so you are paying more for less detail and information. I always read your posts Tom... Lots of things to learn from you.

No, I have not yet tested the Vivotek IP8151. But judging from the sample videos on the Vivotek website, if I plan to drive around a big city with a security camera mounted to the dash, apparently that's the camera to get. Best, Christopher LOL! Would love to see/ know more when someone gets a chance to test one. I've got my first Vivotek in test on my front porch... I gotta say, a little soft on the "2mp" but DANG do I like the features. -
Sorry Alex, I meant ak357. A simple typo, I can assure you.

j4str: Have no fear buddy... PC DVRs are not the ONLY option for you. There's still some fantastic budget DVRs out there... We in the industry still sell them all the time. Be warned though, getting a good one is a diamond in the rough, needle in a haystack, few and far in between... choose your analogy the point is there's a lot of CRAP out there that YOU need to avoid. Rory has found something that works for him, thewireguys has some great budget stuff he uses in a pinch, ak47 in Canada know his stuff, I've got some great budget DVRs... there's plenty of key outstanding, honest guys on this forum that would love to help you make a better and well educated decision.

See, right there, you work from a false assumption: almost everyone here has tried cheap, generic cards at one time or another. Some have done it out of ignorance and thinking they were getting a good deal, then come here asking for help, only to learn what we're trying to impart on you; others have to deal with them in trying to help friends or customers who've bought them thinking they were getting a good deal. Some (including me) even buy and/or inherit them now and then just to test, out of morbid curiosity. I'd hazard a guess that ALL the advice given you far on this matter comes from direct experience. It is at this point I invoke George Santayana. WOW... well said Matt!

Scratch last post. Just touched base with Robert at Sanyo... Sanyo is out of 3300s. 3500s are availible. Select distrubutors may have 3300s still in stock, but supplies are dwendling... I will beat any new, in stock price of a Sanyo HD3300. The price of my like new 3300 has been lowered to $550.

For all the PMs I've been getting asking about my 3300 for sale.... here you go. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=23711&p=143133#p143133 -
Just to clarify, you will not find a 3300 or 3500 ANYWEHRE in North America...go ahead, call around. Find one, NEW, and in stock somewhere and I'll beat whatever price they want. The camera is in like-new conition and comes with all original packaging, connectors, and manuals. The unit also comes with my company's standard free lifetime technical support.

GREAT camera! Good luck getting one until Feb though... Sanyo supply issues. Have a demo unit for sale thouh. I'll even throw in FREE shipping to anywhere in US! I just ordered a bunch of 3300's and Sanyo sent me 3500's instead because of the supply issue. I'll take that any day You don't say.... and exactly WHEN did you place this order? I have accounts with 6 of Sanyos top distributors in the country.... I regularly talk to the only Sanyo corporate sales rep for North America... Have his personal cell phone number. Would you care to enlighten me....you must know something or someone I don't. ... Yes, Sanyo was substituting 3500s for 3300s for a short while in October/ Nov... but now they are out of 3500s as well...have been for quite some time -
