  1. The others are right... stick with analog cams and a decent DVR to stay in your budget. Be careful of "bundle" packages like those toy systems you see all over Ebay and Sam's Club. Every now and then they come with a halfway decent DVR but the cameras and cables are always total junk.

  6. I'd like to get the customer at least 2 weeks of storeage for a medium traffic area.
  7. Ironically, I would want to go with Mobotix to save money vs my tranditional nvr or dvr approach. I have 2 seperate jobs where only 1 camera is needed. I realize a $500 or more NAS would be ideal but what would the major drawbacks be if I went with a WD My Book World NAS?
  8. Thanks for posting this. Any idea what, if anything you'll get to replace the system?

    1500' Cat5 video loss

Interesting, I have only seen 1000ft boxes. I guess you could order longer lengths. I've never seen a box over 1000' either...

    1. Unlicensed electrical work 2. Running low and high voltage in the same conduit 3. Using low voltage cable to run line voltage 4. Wire gauge insuffecient for distance, at any load 5. Conduit depth below grade probably not suffecient, since it was laid for low voltage 6. Fire hazard 7. Safety hazard 8. Improper high voltage terminations (splicing extention cord) 9. Suggesting to the public that this a viable solution. 10. Bragging about your illegal and dangerous work on the internet 11. Liability? 12. Claiming to know anything of "networks" yet ignorant of Ethernet cable distance limitations 13. Missing ground wire 14. And the best one: "professionals" agreeing that this is also a clever solution and something they will try one day 15. Bidding a job that's way over your head in experience, knowledge, and skill. 16. Zero common sense. Did I miss anything?

    diagonal rotating interference...????

It could be a lot of things... but the most common is that the video cables were ran parrallel or near high voltage. The next most common problem is the cheap, inferrior, premade cables that those bargain bundle systems come with. Usually thin, alluminum, and not well shielded if at all. A lot of them also run power wires inside the same jacket as video, which can further contribute to a crappy picture. Just one of the countless reasons why we discourage buying those bargain bundles... Even if the DVR is decent, most people end up eventually replacing everything else the system came with... either from complete failure or just horrible performance. While having a crappy CCTV system is certainly better than nothing, its still cheaper in the long run to invest in higher quality products, even if you have to sacrifice the initial quantity. If you start with a decent foundation you can at least continue to build from it, instead of having to start competeley over in 6 months.

    Lines in all the Cameras

Kccustom let me login in to his dvr. The artifacts show up in live view, and archived video on my PC as well. The dvr is recording this, even detecting it as motion activity... on multiple cameras. It is indeed an issue with the dvr.
