IR blur on Axis P1344?
bpzle replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Your lens should be fine, just focus the camera at night. That lens will have little thumb set screws where you can temporarily loosen the focus ring and be able to adjust focus. The only way the window would mess things up is if the camera had an auto focus, where it may see a reflection or dirt on the window and try to automatically focus on the window instead of objects in the distance. However, I don't think that camera has an auto focus... but I may be wrong. If it does, disable it so you can manually focus it. -
Yeah, I've seen worse. Best, Christopher Really? Do tell!

IR blur on Axis P1344?
bpzle replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just focus is at night. Its a true day night camera, that's not uncommon to have focus shift at night. -
What makes it so funny is the tards on that forum were all giving the guy an "atta boy" and a pat on the back... That is all kinds of wrong on all kinds of levels. What idiots...

Good luck! Let us know if you find something in that price range... If you really want a significant difference in picture quality you're going to have to (at the very least) double your budget for a camera. It's like anything else... you get what you pay for.

Yes the old camera was about 10' up. The new one we installed was about 7' up.
-
By the way... Just for giggles, the top camera is one I replaced for a customer a few months back. Check out the difference... Believe it or not, the one she bought from me was one of our lower end cams, but it still kicked the Chinese piece of crap's arse!

Can you post snapshots from the video?
-
Walk over to your DVR and scroll through the menu options. Look under "Network Settings" or something similar and write down the IP address. A NIC is a network interface card... it's what your Ethernet cable plugs into on the computer or DVR.

Ya I want one

You'll always have voltage drop, with any cable you choose... How much is dependent on the setup you have. 1. Are you using 12vDC or 24vAC? 2. What exactly will the CAT5 be carrying? Power & video; Power, video & audio; Power, video, & PTZ control? 3. In the CAT5, what pairs do you intend to use and for what? 4. The cameras that you are using, how much power do they require? AKA amps?

The CCTV market is flooded with inflated and half truths in spec sheets. This is especially the case for ANY Chinese made product found all over CostCo, Fry's, Ebay, Sam's Club, etc. This makes it very difficult to make a good, educated decision on CCTV products. I can tell you, only from personal experience that both the cameras you're looking at are junk. Is one slightly better than the other? Possibly, but some farts smell worse than others... but they all stink. If you catch my drift. lol To answer your question, there are some things you can look for but there is no substitute for experience. Have a look through these forums, there's a lot of good info to be had. Or, if you tell us more about your budget and requirements we'd be glad to help make some recommendations.

I would start with pinging the DVR repeatedly. On your computer: Start/Run/ type "CMD" and hit OK. Vista or 7 I think is: Start/ Search: "CMD" and enter. A black MS-DOS window should pop up. Type in "ping 192.168.1.105 -t" Obviously, use the correct IP address of the DVR. Leave the ping running and walk over to the DVR and start jiggling cables. Go back to the computer and hold down "Ctrl" and then hit "C" Look at the report. You should have 0% loss. If you don't, you potentially have a cabling issue. If you don't have a cable tester, replacing the cable is the easiest thing to do. If you replace the cable and you still have issues, it's possible you have an issue with a NIC either on the DVR or the PC you're working on. Try the pinging trick from another PC, if you get the same results and you have all new cabling, then it's a NIC going out on the DVR and it's most likely integrated to the motherboard and there's nothing you can do.

Wanted to see what analog cams you guys were using for license plate capture... I have a particular application that calls for little to zero light, day AND night capture, capture of front mounted plates, on vehicles traveling 10-40mph. Camera will be mounted 8' high, at 75' from target area.

Thanks for the reply! It looks like that's all UK specific stuff though. Couldn't find anything on where to buy in US...

You're not going to find any "good" outdoor cameras in that price range. I would just stick with the cheapo cameras that your package came with. Investing in a camera in that price range will not really yeild that huge a difference. I would recommnd investing in a couple cams at a time instead of all at once. Go for quality, not quantity. These days around $150 can buy a pretty decent outdoor camera...something you won't be having to replace in 6 months due to failure or unsatisfactory results. Crime is not a temporary problem, don't invest in a temporary solution.

Need advice I need a regular camera in a babys room
bpzle replied to programmergeek's topic in Security Cameras
this has been brought up before... honestly I wouldn't want my kid exposed to IR every night. I know working with high power IR even just temporarily makes my eyes water. I don't really think there have been any studies of long term damage, if any of low power IR but still... what's wrong with a good ol fashioned baby monitor? -
cnb makes lots of cameras... how is the camera wired to the capture card?

Ouside Camera showing white screen at night!
bpzle replied to Rif's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Because the scene is different plugged in at the dvr vs plugged in at its intended spot? Are there any bright lights near the camera? -
You'll get a lot of recommendations for CNB on this site... We've installed many and they aren't bad, but they aren't the best (in class) I've tested either. I'm a dealer for CNB and still sell quite a bit to those that insist, but I prefer some unbranded units we get straight from Korea that knock the socks off of CNB for around the same amount of cash. Matter of fact... I sold a CNB VCM-24VF to a customer recently that insisted. I convinced him to let me also send him the equivalent in my unbranded units for comparison... He ended up returning the CNB. Don't buy anything at Fry's... that's all cheap Chinese crap. Worst of the worst, that you pay dollars on the pennies for. When I first started my own business I tested everything they sold related to CCTV...

Ouside Camera showing white screen at night!
bpzle replied to Rif's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
post a picture... sounds like a crappy camera though.... could also be there are objects too close to the camera, creating a reflection of the IR light back into the lens. -
Yes. I sell it, install it, and use it.
