8 channels into 1 usb port.... well that would be an improvement from what you have but still not ideal. The only usb devices like that you will find are cheap, unsupported Chinese crap. If the software and drivers work at all, they will be buggy at best. Video quality will be horrendous. Take a look at getting a couple Avermedia NV3000 pci capture cards. The best budget card hands down, at least that I have found. Excellet software and support from a name brand company. They actually have a 1 800 number for tech support... and they actually answer. Hard to find with budget equipment. The PC you put it in must be Intel based though. I've put a couple in a P4 with as little at 1.8ghz I believe. Pm me for pricing.

CCTV mobile viewing application for Samsung Galaxy S
bpzle replied to qingyiboy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It seems Anroid phone apps are still catching up. I use Slingbox. You have to buy another piece of hardware and enable the spot out of the DVR... But it works well, the phone compatibility list is huge, and ANY dvr/ nvr will work as long as you have a spot out. I have a Galaxy S as well, works great. -
Correct... what I didn't get was one of your reasons for getting rid of Nuuo was you needed future expandability. Since Nuuo does this and you realize that... why are you getting rid of it?
-
To add more channels with Nuuo you just buy however many more you need... Not really sure what you mean.
-
Probably not... You must forward multiple ports with ACTi. Which ones did you?

Help choosing a hybrid NVR
bpzle replied to tds1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For a residential job I'm working on using Nuuo ip software to run 7 mp cams. Using vga out of server/client and Startech's VGA over utp adapters to distribute to 6 TVs in the house. Its always running, so no messing with logins or booting up computers in case of a late night shoe bandit. -
Help choosing a hybrid NVR

Im not missing anything, thanks. It was already clarified that I was talking about viewing live video on the server as we do with all other CCTV systems. As mentioned most clients dont want to have to turn on another computer at the location to view the live video. Rory I must disagree. I put the server in the IT closest with the rest of the servers/networking gear and the customer uses the computer on his/her desk that they already use, as the Exacq client. You don't need a dedicated client machine unless you your doing a video wall. As I mentioned, depends on if its residential or not. A knock at the door or a bump in the night... home owners want instant access to see. I think you're describing a "set it and forget it" type system that is much more common in commercial enviornments. But at the end of the day... customer gets what customer wants... with the right budget of course -

Actually that's just what I meant... Funny, in my head I was thinking less than 20 IP cams (low frame) or less than 10 MP cams. Close enough -
Help choosing a hybrid NVR
bpzle replied to tds1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just to clarify: A "server" is something we (usually) refer to in the CCTV industry as a service than runs, usually in the background, and it simply stores the video it's capturing and does not process any information to display (except for maybe simple mobile clients). A "client" is what decodes the stored data and displays both live and archived footage. Hence the need for a beefy video memory and (especially if h.264 is used) processing power. Some software like Avermedia or Nuuo run simultaneously. They are one program in the same, thus why they require beefier specs. While thewireguys is the resident Exacq expert on the forum and can tell you from certain experience, I would suspect the Atom anything would not be recommended for anything other than a simple server. If this is a residential job, I've found most home owners prefer having a constant video feed easily accessible. Firing up a laptop or desktop every time the doorbell rings is not ideal. Having a monitor within arms reach to easily turn on OR splitting the video (countless ways to do this) to the TVs is what most prefer. If it's commercial without security guards or a second residence, then usually instant live viewing locally is not so important. How much does that i7 cost per year to run? -
You won't find software for the cheap card. It does not work that way. Software is almost always propriatary to the card and vise versa. You're better off throwing it away. If budget I of concern, look at Avermedia NV3000 card. Name brand, very good software. I've searched, but I have not found a better card for the money.

Should...but doesn't. viewtopic.php?f=54&t=22763

cctv software?? are you talking analog or ip? for analog cams you need a capture card and the majority of the time the cards are bundled with the software.

Help choosing a hybrid NVR
bpzle replied to tds1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
but but but .. i can build one for 1/4 the price You can build a pc and get a lcd monitor for $175 with shipping?! damn! I think my budget would be blown on a OS and LCD alone! I think when its all said and done, not much savings, Unless you regularly build PCs, have a good shopping list, and have the time to slap things together... time is money. What in bios have I been missing out on? -
like Tom said... this is not a recorder. in my opinion, does not really qualify as a "cctv system." what you have is a quad processor. it takes in 4 video inputs, makes a split screen, and shows all 4 simultaneously on a monitor like so:

Ebay has $20 cameras... but that doesn't mean you should buy them. Cameras are tools. There's no perfect camera for every job, you have to know which one to grab. What is your application? What is your budget?

How did you get these numbers? There's a whoooole lot of variables to be able to easily and accurately throw around numbers like that... Well, that's smart to get more channels than you think you need. Maxing out a system from day 1 is never a good idea! With the QNAP, are you OK with no local display? Video is accessed via another computer on the network. What "inexpensive" encoders have you looked at? They can get pretty pricey... As far as camera recommendation, that's pretty hard to say without knowing more about your application. Cameras are just tools, there is no single tool for every job. The trick is knowing which one to grab... -

Help choosing a hybrid NVR
bpzle replied to tds1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Tds1: I was not referring to building a pc from scratch. I agree with you, that's a PITA. A lot of guys still do it but I personally think its a waste of time... Esp when I can get a name brand prebuilt pc with LCD shipped for less than $700. And that comes with a single warranty... no calling random parts manufacturers for support hoping they won't blame it on the other manufacturer... Unless space is very limited and power consumption is a problm, I don't think it makes sense to buy standalones. Standalones are a good bang for the buck if you need 4 or 8 all analog channels or 4 ch pure NVR. Anything outside of that criteria just does not make sense to me. At least in today's market.... that will probably change tomorrow. -

Lol maybe for linux... but I don't think I would build a windows based sever/client around one. Yayaya exacq can do it but I highly doubt for a server/client bundle. -

The windows based 9000 has been availible for a while but pretty pricey compared to building my own. The other one you mentioned I don't believe is availible in the US. Don't forget we only get a fraction of the Aver toys you do in the UK. Not sure why, but you always talk about cool stuff but its just not availible here. -

May I ask why you are looking at standalone units? They all have their limitations and limited resources.... A pc based system (hybrid) is usually cheaper, much more versatile, and if something breaks parts are readily availible. No propriatary parts like with an embedded unit. Look at avers 6480 card. 16ch analog or ip mix and match how you please. No licenses to buy. Very do able in your budget. Pm me for pricing. With that said, of course Exacq is much better but imo more of an enterprise solution with an enterprise stcker price to match. Since your looking to cut costs by using some analog cams... I don't think your looking for enterprise grade. Aver is hard to beat for the price. And no, I'm not pusing my own agenda. I consistently test other manufacturers but keep coming bk to aver. Just ask any aver user. It will do everything you want and then some. The software will blow away any dvr you've ever used.
