    £200 limit for a camera

Don't waste your money on a ptz camera in that price range. Get ready to be bombarded by others with suggestions for CNB. The Monalisas we've installed were OK, I won't be using their non-Monalisa cameras again anytime soon. Have not tested the Blue-i series yet, but likely won't as the price range is a little to high and we're very happy with a new line that we've been carrying. We buy direct from a manufacturer in Korea. Much better than CNB in my opinion and they come with the same warranty.
  2. I work with lots of electricians everyday... I don't think I know a single one that could even tell you what a POE switch is, much less troubleshoot it. I supposed you could put an amp clamp on the 120v coming in to see how much current the entire switch is using, but I doubt that would tell you that much unless its just way off the charts...
  3. I think its time to invest in a portable service monitor!
  4. plug in a monitor directly at the camera

    SOMETHING WRONG HERE !!!!.PLEASE READ

I saw your original post but I know next to nothing of Honeywell equipment. I may have touch 2 pieces of HW equipment in the past 5 years?? Does this mean I'm an arse hole? I shoulda Googled that manual for you...I'd really hate to loose my "genuine real expert" title! My CUSTOMERS are really impressed by that... That was a close one!

    Definetley! That's a very big no-no!

can anybody help!! DVG 2004-DS ASTELLO

it doesn't work that way. You must connected a flash drive to the USB port of the DVR and copy files to that. OR use the ethernet port put the dvr on a network so you can use the dvr's client software to view/save the video.

that power supply isn't big enough! you're maxing it out. That's a problem, but I don't think its THE problem. I still think its the cameras.
  9. Cameras can do wierd things if they are under supplied on power. Check with a volt meter at the camera with the camera plugged in what the voltages are both with the IRs on and when they are off. What is the amp draw rated at on this camera? The power supply that you are using: what is it rated for?
  10. Cutting the cable on the camera will void the warranty with most manufacturers. If the camera comes with those stupid barrel plugs for power, I use a like connector and attach it to the field cable with b connectors (aka dolphins). Then I tape the 2 cables together. to keep them from being pulled apart.

Lol! Let's start taking bets... Loser has to use twist on BNCs on their next job from start to finish AND take pictures in front of a newspaper to prove it! hahhaah
  12. *what he said Also cheap cameras seem to get more noise in low/ zero light. These tiny dots jumping around the screen will easily trick the DVR into thinking there is movement. Dial back your motion sensativity on the DVR and see if that helps. But be sure to test it at night by slowly walking into the view of the camera to make sure it will still be triggered by real movement. You don't want to set it so low that nothing is captured.

K.I.S.S.! I'm telling you, it's the cameras. I've seen this before. Ground loop can happen, but it's been my experience (10 years or so) that it's extreamly rare. I don't think I've ever seen it on AC powered cameras... But either way, I've used these cameras before and I'm telling you, IT'S THE CAMERAS!

That camera is dual voltage. When we had issues with them we tried AC and DC voltage, with the same results.

    CCTV on iphone

What I would like to see is a mobile phone app where you can use digital ptz, like in NVR pc client software. No, not control a ptz camera (most do that). It's hard to see details on a small screen, it would be cool to be able to digitally zoom in on areas of interest. Particulary on megapixel cams...

Ground loop?! On AC?! You guys are crazy! lol Do you have a volt meter? Check the voltage at the camera. Running multiple types of cable for each camera is a headache waiting to happen! Don't do it again! It will only confuse you when it comes time to troubleshoot. So, if voltage is good under a load... Try using a totally different make/model camera temporarily to see if you still get the lines. I'm betting that the problem will go away when you use a different camera. How do I know? I've used several 640s and had this same problem on ALL of them. Some worse than others. I won't use these cameras anymore. However, it's good to cover your bases before you send back to Eclipse and eat 3 percent plus shipping to return. Hope you saved the boxes! I have a hard time throwing away boxes, even a month or 2 after an install. lol

    ZeeVee and Direct TV

Anyone have lucking using a ZeeVee box and a multi-room satellite DVR? I have a client where we're wanting to broadcast all his megapixel cameras to his HD TVs. This sure would be an elegant solution if it would work...

    ZeeVee and Direct TV

??? I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing here... I need to modulate a digital HD CATV channel simultaneously on existing coax that will also be running satellite simulatenously. I don't need the satellite box to pick up on this signal, I'm going to use the built in tuners on the TVs for that... I'm just concerned my modulated signal from the ZeeVee box will interfere with the satellite. I know they use diplexors/ combiners to run normal CATV on existing coax that is also running sat, so in theory it should work, but I don't like looking stupid in front of a client.
  19. I'm looking for some low profile (skinny panel style or something similar) external infrared illuminators power by low voltage (12-24v AC/DC). The current job I'm working on is for a high end residence and need something a little sleeker than what I can find in my current tried and true goody bag... I need a minimum of 100' throw at 30 degrees. Various degree/ throw models would be nice... I have a couple cams that may require over 300' throw at 10 degrees... Raytec seems to fit the bill for everything except price... Any ideas?

    Raytec without the price

Thanks, don't know how I missed that... Well, I did setup an acct. Not that big a discount though...

    Raytec without the price

Cool, thanks! Still on the pricey side though! Do they only sell to the public or can I get setup as a dealer?
  22. I'd like to see real (not from manufacturer's website) before and after stills or video from an analog to IP or IP megapixel camera upgrade. It would be nice to have the same similar angles and position. Having real life examples would really seal the deal for some clients on the fence about upgrading and shelling out all the extra cash for IP. Be sure to list camera and lens make/ model. Thanks!
  23. Thanks for the reference! I'd love to help here, but I'm afraid I'd be at a loss too with the problems he's describing. Never heard of anything like it and I've got about 10 years in the biz and have worked with countless of makes/ models of DVRs too... Unless you can get some real help with that thing, I'd be happy to quote you some prices on a replacement unit. With any purchase you get a lifetime of free tech support from someone who regularly installs the same equipment. So no more headaches researching and pleas for help on internet forums! No more rants from jerks who admitedly don't care about you or your problems! With my company, you get the technical and customer support you need, when you need it, for free! It's a shame you have not gotten that with your DM unit...
  24. Yes, use tv/ monitor with composite (usually a yellow RCA) in and that will work.
  25. Clover has good stuff??? Yeah not so much... Stay away from any packaged system. Clover, Qsee, Security Man, Swann, blah blah it's all the same rebranded Chinese crap. Lorex is actually one the better of the big box store brands, but still a far cry from professional quality equipment. If you're wanting an upgrade, don't buy Chinese junk like off Ebay or online stores. But forget quality, there is no "one size fits all" camera. Those packaged systems all come with fixed lens IR cameras. Tell us what each camera will be needed for, and we can make recommendations accordingly. Knowing your budget will also help.
