RG59 Siamese VS. 4-Pair-All-In-One Cables
bpzle replied to brianj's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
THE suggestion is, don't use that crap! Use CAT5e and good quality baluns if you want a thin cable... Of course, I guess we should ask WHAT you are using the cable for? I'm just going on the assumption you need just video and power to a basic, lower power consuming camera. -
RG59 Siamese VS. 4-Pair-All-In-One Cables
bpzle replied to brianj's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
DIY cable .. More prone to damage and interference as well as limited to shorter distances. Not to mention it is not the best cable to use when using a distributed power supply. Ive worked with them but I would never suggest anyone use them. +100 Don't use that cheap crap. It will only make crappy cameras crappier and decent cameras a waste of money. -
Sorry, but you will not find what you're looking for. Try again in a year or 2. Prices are still dropping... Stay far away cheap Chinese crap... You will regret, I promise. And unlike lxhzspy, I'm not pushing my own agenda. I'm just speaking the truth.

Why is my ACTI 1231 camera so bad at night?
bpzle replied to magohn's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Nope... I've installed many. That looks about right for the scene and with default settings. The 1231 is a great camera, can't beat it for the price. But, this is a classic example of using the wrong tool for the job. TWG: There is existing ambient light in your scene, correct? I also see there is little vegetation in the scene... These are 2 reasons why your images are much better -
Why is my ACTI 1231 camera so bad at night?
bpzle replied to magohn's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I disagree. There's very little in this scene for IR light to reflect off of. Grass and trees soak up light, not reflect... That also looks to be a pretty dark area at night, compared to most commercial/ non residential areas. This looks to have ZERO ambient light. Built in IRs of nearly any style cameras, much less POE powered IRs are not going to flood a pitch black area outside. Just not realistic.... What is the shutter speed, AGC, brightness, and contrast set to? -
I have a practically brand new ACM-1231 WITH bracket, original packaging, and manual... Only mounted for a couple weeks. Used for demonstrations on bids...

Mr. DM is kind of a jerk, huh

anyone use the new night owl dvrs yet?
bpzle replied to musclecarguy's topic in Digital Video Recorders
just curious... what other dvrs have you used? -
I've noticed the lens that comes with the VBM-24vf is identical to that of Wren and some my favorite off brand Korean cams. Not sure of the specs or who actually makes them... but it appears to be pretty common make/model for domes.

Hybrid Solution for High res IP and CNB

Define "high res" -
Oooo, lots to answer! I have read them all, just love it,thank you to answer you first Birdman Adam I live out side the City, my boundary is over 100 foot long separating me from him, his house is at the other end from mine, his rear access gate opens near my front door, that is where his camera is which looks in to my home, I bought some CCTV this week, but there are problems, can you help please? It is wireless with 4 channels for 4 cameras, ...2 channels go fuzzy when I watch them, can you tell me why please? Sue Its because you bought cheap toys. Real wireless CCTV gear is probably not in your budget, nor is it practical in your situation. Take it back and tell the people on the forum what your budget is. They'll try to steer you in the right direction, if possible.

Still not addressing my original question?? You're running out of excuses! I only came on this thread because I knew I would have the attention of the several DM users/ installers here. I really do want to know what's so special... Oh, I just saw your number of posts was low... I can't welcome you anyway? Why are you so bent out of shape that I asked an off topic question in this thread? This forum is obviously of little importance to you if you've been here that long and only had 12 posts at the time you replied to me. Apparently you did. You're very contradictory! You took the time to reply to my question, but didn't answer it at all. You've spent more time ranting and raving about my questions than it would have taken to answer them! I'm beginning to think you CANT explain why DM is better... It doesn't seem to be a matter of choice. Ok, I don't expect you to. But this is a forum for sharing information. So, I asked a question... You're not answering it, why are you here? Just to be an A hole? There's probably others out in Internet land that may like to know why you think DM is superior as well... Maybe even a future customer! Hmmm... funny... look at the post just before this one. The timing couldn't be any better for my point. I find your people skills and the inability to reason a poor representation of our industry, and Dedicated Micros.

Anti-DM ranting? No sir! I only wish to be enlightened on what I'm missing out on... If you can justify to your clientele the tremendous increase in price, surely I can too! I'm just a little curious why you stall and come up with excuses not to explain?? So far your only reason has been to add overall cost to your installs which isolates your clientele. Interesting business model, but I'm still not sold on switching... YET. I don't think being slightly off topic matters much, happens all the time. Welcome to the forum btw! Sorry if I've offended anyone or come across as a hijacker and Aver propaganda spreader! Not my intent at all.

Trouble remotely viewing using my Lorex DVR L208D251
bpzle replied to cgcmgr's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If there is a computer running on the remote site, TeamViewer will save you a lot of time... You can see what's going on on the LAN, configure the router, etc... Also comes in handy to verify good connection on a remote computer when your on site. No more driving just to find out something doesn't work... Canyouseeme.org is also a handy tool to verify open ports when you're on site. -

Are you and your brother using the same username/ password? This will be the conflict. I have no idea about software versions for Lorex... the only reason I know anything at all about it is I use this one at the house, and only because I got it for free from an upgrade for a customer. I'm not a fan of Lorex in general (their cameras are a joke), but the DVR I have is actually pretty decent... It's a higher end unit though, and overpriced IMO. I will say that Lorex, as far as DVRs go, are the "higher end" of big box electronics store brands. Much better than Q See, Clover, Security Man, etc which seem to have ZERO quality standards. -
VMS software with dual stream capabilities
bpzle replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think we are talking about 2 different thing The way I understand OP is talking about soft lots of camera on market can have multi stream but not a lots of soft which can support it Right ? Yeah, I don't think we're talking about the same thing either... I wasn't talking about using the camera's dual stream. I was talking about recording at full rez on the server, and then the server streams out over the internet/ network at a much lower quality, or whatever percentage of the original quality you'd prefer. -

In the local setup menu in the CMS software, under configuration, change the video output. Note that changes will not be made until you click OK, close the program out, and open the program again. -
yikes! I've worked many lightening strikes... no fun at all. http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=pnet1gb

VMS software with dual stream capabilities
bpzle replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yup. Works pretty good... What would be cooler is you stream low rez for the full image but could digitally zoom in to a certain part for more detail and see as much detail in that cropped image as the original rez. Like Avigilon, only send the pixels needed. Nonetheless, it's easy enough to change the stream by right clicking on the camera in the web client and selecting what quality to stream. -
Overview of the players in the CCTV field?
bpzle replied to hijakk's topic in General Digital Discussion
Ganz is good, I have countless sites I service with their cameras. I didn't pick them though... waste of money IMO. I can buy 4 cameras for the price of 1 Ganz, with better picture and just as reliable too. I think PTZs would be a waste for this application too... You could buy 8 good quality cameras for the price of 1 good quality PTZ. And one more thing... unless you REALLY know what you're looking for.... NEVER buy CCTV from Ebay. You'll regret it, I promise. Cheap Chinese CCTV gear is worthless junk. So what you can buy a camera for $30... doesn't mean anyone should. -
Umm... I'm a dealer?? lol Ya... isn't that everyone's complaint? They have to send the unit in for an expensive repair b/c the OS in the hard drive. No simple swap out... Poor design in my opinion and a total PITA. All of the DVRs I've used (both low and high end) have been extremely simple to swap out HDDs... I get why a luxury car costs more... I don't get it with DM. DM is 4 times the price, with less features and judging by the problems people have with them... They are no more reliable than cheaper units. So I'll ask AGAIN. Why would anyone want a Dedicated Micros? Have you tried Avermedia? Have you tried anyt other big name DVR manufacturers? How do YOU think DM stacks up to the competition? Please enlighten me and justify the expense...
