Dome Camera Drop Ceiling Mount
bpzle replied to SectorSecurity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
^ everything he said but you can also use pendent mounts and dome cap, specific to your make/ model dome camera. most have standard threads that allow you to use threaded pipe that can be bought at any hardware store. -
^ that will not work with u verse. that modulator, like most is designed for use with standard CATV

when you buy a standalone dvr, you're also pledging to use their proprietary software. usually, there are no alternatives. as you've found out, there's a whoooooole lot more to the picture when selecting a DVR other than price and spec sheets. what's the make/ model dvr?

Using a BNC "T" Adapter to Split Camera to DVR and Monitor
bpzle replied to lselfstorage's topic in Digital Video Recorders
yes, you can use t connectors to split a single camera to view on 2 devices and i admit i've done it before... but you're not supposed to. it cuts the video signal in half, and can result in a degraded picture. if the quad Sean recommended has loop outs, that would work. otherwise, use a powered video splitter aka distributor: -
built in IRs on domes of any style are a big no no in my opinion... the bowl shaped plastic/ glass does a great job of reflecting all that IR light right back into the lens

Ubiquiti and Vivotek
bpzle replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
i'm by no means a wireless guru... but i'm leaning towards interference from something else nearby. have you tried forcing them to stay on one frequency? i'd be interested to see if there is a signal difference between the lowest freq and highest... -

bpzle replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
also... 85db seams a little weak for only being 200' away... even if there is a branch in the way... what is your strength set to? i do know it's possible to have it set too high if you are close... -

bpzle replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions

what happens when you run airview? anything noteworthy pop up? i had strange issues with some M5s here recently... they would intermittently interfere with other wireless networks in the area. ended up disabling discovery, forcing them to stay on a particular frequency and enabled channel shifting... sounds contradictory, but haven't been called back since... that was about 2 months ago -
We're putting in a basic system for a powder coating shop. It's just to monitor production and employees. I planned on using outdoor rated bullets w/ sun shields. They'll be sealed so nothing gets inside but the concern is with what may stick to and build up on the glass in front of the lenses. I know Bosch makes some extreme environment cameras with windshield wipers, but honestly this camera system just isn't going to be THAT important to these guys to warrant the price tag associated with such cameras. Has any experimented with using some sort of saran wrap type of material that could just be peeled off the lens and replaced periodically or as needed?

Haha! that does look a bit like I was posing. I was walking to the camera

Just finished applying the film as a test... I've only tested at night, but so far I'm pretty pleased. The film covered both the lens and separate IR glass on the bullet... Without film: With film: The goodies:

Camera Brand Advice, Pelco, Avigilon, or another?
bpzle replied to threed's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would sure hope that your intentions are made clear to any potential installers... It takes a substantial amount of time to properly bid a job and ethically, it's just wrong to use a quote for in house installation. -
Confused on setting up Swann 8900 Series
bpzle replied to theprez's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I hate to inform you, but your problems are to be expected with Swann and other bundled camera systems. Do you mind if I asked how much you paid? -
not to mention Axis VMS is muy expensivo for a closed platform solution... but hey! at least you get to use all of every axis cameras' features.

If your DVR came with a WD Green anything... you'll be safe using damn near anything. Hitachi will be a huge improvement. I've had nothing but problems with WD Green. By the way... what are you doing buying crap on the internet and Fry's? I'm down the street from you.

WAYYYYYYYYY too many variables to pass judgement....

haha... I still use those cheap 2 color business cards I got from them and I remember all that stuff I had to go through to get them. Ahh... seems like only yesterday I was starting out on my own and ordering them. I've been meaning to freshen my cards up... anyone know of a better supplier?

What camera is needed to see small details?
bpzle replied to Ira's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Not totally true... this depends on cam vs monitor resolution. Otherwise, good recommendations. -
Not true. There's only like 1 or 2 4ch encoders Exacq honors 1 license for 4 ch. Most encoders they support eat up a license per ch. Have things changed since a couple months ago, last time I quoted Exacq? Are you recommeding he use 20 encoders? Why?
-
Not for that many cameras and Exacq. With Exacq you pay per camera, even on multchannel encoders. Add license cost on top of the encoder cost, it doesn't make sense. Not to mention that's a ton of extra equipment.... Go with Exacq hybrid.

Rory, have you ever sold an ip camera?

Mini spy surveillance cameras are made to appear like usual
bpzle replied to Leslie's topic in Security Cameras
I do not buy from suppliers in China. If you'd like for me to consider making an exception, you must first supply me with free samples for me to evaluate.
