  1. Electrical would be my last guess in this case... What kind of wire did you pull? That's where I'd first point the finger... I know, I know... not a fun thought.

Eight Cameras to Show on a Website

hahaha am I the only one that caught that? awesome The problem I see with "browser" based remote clients for DVRs/ NVRs is most I've played with require Active X, meaning IE ONLY! Bummer. Not to mention they have to run some sort of plug in which requires admin rights and loose internet security settings... The average web user probably won't know how or have the patience to tweak all the settings, or know to hold down that "shift" to disable the pop up blocker... I have a feeling this client is thinking of something as clean and simple as YouTube. Probably wants something ANYONE can navigate to and the video "embedded" to the web site. Well, I know what won't work... out of my league to know what will.
  3. 25' Siamese cable? Sounds like cheap pre-made stuff. You get what you pay for. I only buy RG59 Siamese in bulk (500' or 1000') and make my own ends (compression BNC). I say only... but it's been a while since I've used RG59 at all... Ran out of my last roll about 6 months ago and been using UTP ever since...

    Help with remote viewing

How do you find the time to watch it live? If your recording based on motion, you should be able to review an entire day worth of video in minutes... What's the importance of high FPS when viewing live? Your seeing what happens, what else could you ask for? It's just security, not Hollywood.
  6. I've got a spare I/o board for a ultra 5 i believe... maybe they work? look on Tyco's or American Dynamic's site... they usually have a pretty good list of service manuals that have troubleshooting flow charts. You'll probably need a meter but it's not too hard.
  7. Securitas My mom does it for my house... She'd be happy to watch yours too for a small monthly fee.
  8. OH NO YOU DI-EN! lol! With that many cameras, my bet is ground loop. Especially on 12vDC cameras...

    Hidden Cameras

I want to know how Dateline's "To Catch a Predator" hides their cameras... There's always so many angles!

    Hidden Cameras

I haven't done much "hidden" camera work. I prefer to stay away from that sticky PI mess... But, we did put some board cameras in what looked like decorative flower baskets/ sconces for the wall. The lenses were camouflaged by the center black part of a sun flower. They were put up behind the registers in a retail store.

bet you can't find this one... didn't you wear that shirt yesterday?
  13. how many cameras? how far away is the power supply from the DVR? could be irrelevant and be ground loop... good luck!

    Help with remote viewing

doesn't matter... remote viewing via the internet will always be poor compared to the local connection. it's all about upload speed... 5-7fps is pretty decent.
  15. Sorry bud. Been there done that. No fun. What was the make/model of the dvr? I'm sure others will run into this...
  16. also, how many days do you need recorded at a time before the system automatically writes over itself? 2 TB is probably overkill for a 4 camera system... Setup to record on motion only with pre and post event recording. This will capture only what's needed, and not waste space on the drive. There's a lot of variables, but just to give you any idea... My dvr at the house records 7 exterior cameras 5 of which face a busy street. With motion based recording, a 750gb drive, and capturing MPEG4 video at D1, 7 fps, I get about 3-4 months of video.
  17. Look at Avermedia's NV3000 card. It's a little cheaper. I've never used GeoVision so I can't vouch for them. For the box cameras, they make recessed enclosures but they're a little pricey. Probably more expensive than what your cameras are worth. A normal outdoor enclosure wouldn't provide very much protection in my opinion... Especially when mounted low indoors. They're big and stick out from the wall. A theif could get pretty good leverage on one just by swinging on it or using a rope to pull it down. Your best bet in my opinion would just be to get new vandal resistant dome cameras. CNB makes some cheap ones, but I've grown partial to Eclipse. I would be inclined to go with a "turret" style dome as it's harder to break the glass than it would be a full polycarb dome.
  18. Hmmm... I still think the issue is with the site's upload speed. You also double check that ALL ports associated with the DVR are properly forwarded and none are blocked by the ISP. You can test this by going to CanYouSeeMe.org within the network and testing each port. Some devices use different ports for video, control, web client, remote client, ect. I guess it could also be some goofy firewall setting on their router... You might try having the IT setup the DVR's IP for DMZ just to see if that helps. He probably won't want to, but it may answer some questions if setup that way temporarily. Also, how are you connecting to the DVR at your house? Via Internet Explorer or a a viewing client program?
  19. Let us know how everything works out.
  20. I'm sure their hardware is top notch... It'd just be nice to build my own so I can get MY prices down to where the average small buisness owner can afford a good CCTV system... I know my clients probably arn't their ideal target market.... but it would be nice if to open a few doors. I can see where 3xLogic is coming from though... It would be a nightmare to support their products if the average Joe started slapping their own components together. Waste a lot of manpower talking on the phone to support something they didn't make money on...
  21. kinda what I was thinking... its the first time I've heard of an NVR software developer not willing to sell just their software. That means muy expensive-O when you gotta buy both...
  22. Erron told me they don't sell just NVR software by itself. That you have to purchase an entire hardware/ software package from them... Is this true?
  23. what is the upload/ download speed from their ISP? what type of service do they have? dsl, T1, cable... what else is the internet used for at that site? what type of internet and speed is on the remote client? try connecting to the DVR on the LAN locally and see if you have the same problems. I bet its bottle necking at the ISP...

    help with ptz dome camera

why do you insist on a speed dome with built in IR? that's really going to limit your options and have a lot of drawbacks IMO...
