Picked it up yesterday... couldn't be happier. I'd highly recomend it. The video is stunning. Steady shot is the best I've seen. Its so fluid. Menus are a bit cumbersome, but don't really need to be messed with too much so its ok. Smile detection is neat. So is the geotagging. I'd highly recomend this baby if your in the market...

Enterprise level systems. What's your favorite?
bpzle posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I run a small CCTV install business that so far specializes in residential and small mom and pop businesses. I would like to branch out and try to get into higher end enterprise level systems. So far I've checked out stuff from Nuuo, VideoInsight, and Exacq. I was hoping to hear from someone who has experience with all, and maybe others. What are your opinions of the strengths, weaknesses of each? What's your favorite, and why? Right now I don't have any requirements for enterprise level systems but I would like to educate myself as much as possible on what's out there. -

cheap Panasonic IP camera ?
bpzle replied to oldtimer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Ya, their basically glorified web cams for chatting or checking on the dog. Nothing special, just cheapo CMOS sensors. I'd have to check, but I doubt many NVRs support these cheapo consumer level toys but then again I'm just guessing. I'd have to check the IP compatability list... These types of cameras do usually come with a software/ IP finder disc that has basic record funtions for almost any OS. You might be able to check out Panasonic's site for some downloads. I'd look for ya but I'm away from the office... -

I just got a new IBM Lenovo with Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB ram, 320gb hard drive, and dvd writer for $299. It's flippin fast! Mine came with Vista Premium but I saw the same spec PC on sale in a Tiger Direct catalog that shipped with 7 premium for $269!!! Problem is, it's not available to order yet. I dare you to find a better deal on a PC! -

my favorite parts were the guys letters and emails in the background of the screen shots. lol -
I'm curious... do you need something to clean up just past footage or future footage as well? If future image quality is a concern obviously a proactive approach, not reactive would be better. I.e., upgrading camera or possibly even adjusting the angle so that the internal IRs don't wash out objects near by.

Do you have electrical experience? When controlling high voltage devices, there is plenty of opportunity for dangerous mistakes. If you don't have any experience, I would highly recommend finding someone who does. Electricians are fairly easy to come by, even in small towns... -

The "HDSM" technology from Avigilon is the first I've heard with these capabilities. Ingenious for saving bandwith and CPU power... Probably helps out tremendously for remote internet clients. Anyone know of other companies with similar technology? The stuff I'm experienced with only allows for throttleing of the entire systems remote connection quality and network bandwidth. This makes playing with megapixels over the internet no fun. -

Just curious... anyone know retail on that 16mp camera? I realize you have to also have the infrastructure to support the beast, but just curious what the msrp is for the thing by itself. -
Another handy tool I take out to every job is a netbook and a wireless router. (maybe this was already mentioned? Idk, this thread is long!!) I find it extremely handy for focusing cameras. The netbook is lightweight, cordless, and has a long battery life. Perfect for ladder work. I also have a power inverter and a wireless network all in one printer/copier in my truck. This comes in handy for modifying invoices, giving an instant bid, printing out manuals, contracts, scanning in hand drawn site surveys, etc. It sure beats driving back to the office or asking to (unprofessionally) borrow a customer's printer and install the drivers, if they have one at all. To me it's a must. It makes great precision cuts for recessed j boxes in sofits, drywall and wood. It also sands which is handy for patching drywall. http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-PS50-2B-12-Volt-Multi-X-Carpenter/dp/B001E261NI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1256933481&sr=8-1-catcorr

I just looked at that link... I noticed the unit for sale does NOT include a hard drive in it. If this is the first time you've fired up the unit and your getting that error.... is it possible you bought the unit without a drive in it and never installed one?

I've had good luck with anything western digital. More so than others. I would recommend it.

How much consistent light is in the area of interest? Street lights, porch lights, etc? -
I used to have a Lorex unit. Just below each DIN input for the cameras is a BNC connector. It's there so you don't have to use crap proprietary camera if you don't want to. I'm wondering if the DIN and BNC video arn't just looped together? Meaning, try plugging in the DIN for the camera and use the BNC input for the same channel as a "Video Out" for a monitor?

http://www.avermedia-usa.com/surveillance/productdetail.aspx?id=64 This should answer most of your questions. The unit will do everything you want and then some. It''s also a "hybrid" which can record 16 channels of video from either analog of IP.
