Vigil and Video Insight systems using newer capture cards (XECAP line for Vigil, VJ-series for VI, although both are essentially the same hardware) have both a switched-analog spot out, and a software-multiplexor spot output. I don't know about the VI software, but Vigil supports split-screen display of mixed analog and IP cameras on the software-MUX output. CAMACC/3xLogic make a product (Vigil HD Viewer) that works alongside their Vigil DVRs (although it also works independent of the DVR) that will generate split-screen views of IP cameras to multiple video heads *completely independent of the desktop display*. We've put in systems with three video cards running a desktop display in the office, plus split-screen outputs to four other VGA monitors using this system. VGA baluns allow the runs to be extended easily via Cat5e. The main benefit of this setup is that you're not limited to 480i analog video resolution, which usually looks terrible on LCD monitors - megapixel cameras can be displayed much more cleanly on 24" monitors at 1600x1024 This sounds more like the solution I was looking for. Now if I can just score a client that can afford Vigil!

I was wondering if you guys had experience with and could recommend any IP camera decoders for viewing one or more IP cameras directly on a monitor. I'm looking for the IP equivalent of an analog multiplexer to display on multiple TVs, preferably high def. What is the largest amount of channels you've seen displayed at one time by a single decoder? Is it possible to get up to 16? Does this compromise your LAN bandwidth? Does it affect your NVR's ability to record normally? Are there compatibility issues with IP cameras like there are the NVRs? I know many NVRs have analog spot outs, but I'd prefer a multiplexer style picture. I'm also aware of NVRs being able to support multiple monitors, but I'd prefer to not have to extend the VGA cable or worry about the picture changing when someone uses the server.

Nice to know! I just sent back by demo unit and I didn't even play witht the audio!

I was afraid of that answer. I was just hoping for a better streamlined option for displaying matrix video on TVs or monitors. This used to be pretty easy and common for analog cameras. I think I'll probably end up getting a cheap desktop for the sole purpose of distributing it's VGA output of the client software. I don't have any specific requirements at the moment, just thinking of future design ideas for customers. I have a feeling this will be a feature requested in the near future.

this is an old thread, and I'm sure the creator has already found a solution... however we use these same louroe kits in all our sites and have good results. I do highly recommend using what the manufacture says to use for cabling. I have had experience in using an unshielded cable and we did have problems, especially in runs longer than 75 feet. Another thing to remember is to mount the mic as far away from any fans or air supply/ return vents as you can. The mics don't have any sort of windscreen on them and can be very susceptible to picking up unwanted wind noise.

Agreed can't wait to get my hands on Areconts 10MP camera it's a little cheaper then the awesome Avigilion 16 MP Finally, a "Hollywood" button for us techs living in the real world! Now if I can just get a computer that beeps a whole lot every time I mash buttons and something loads...

Cool! I didn't know something like that existed for CCTV! Where do you get it? None of my suppliers carry it. Biwave.com no workie either. When I was in broadcast we used similar technology that carried camera power, video, 2-way intercom, spot video, and audio all in one coax. The special triax cable was sure expensive though! Just one kink was enough to get you fired! Never mind! The site works. Check out what I found... http://biwave89.myweb.hinet.net/product/product2700.htm You can put RS485, alarm, power, and a/v all one one coax. I bet you could use thre RS485 connections for RS422/ RS232 for the ptz.

For Those Experienced with NVR Mini - Feedback Needed
bpzle replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
How many cameras per box and what is the MSRP of the March 3108? Analog, IP or both? 8 channels but only 60 FPS. They make higher but we don't buy. We only use 3 of the 8 so its OK. I believe MSRP is around $2k US. They support analog only. They are unique to say the least as they have integrated 24v AC and 12v DC for each camera. I would NOT suggest using the power for external housings with heaters/ blowers. We've had some issues with overloading the power supplies which is shared by the cameras/ mother board/ and hard drives. Handy, but can be a real pain in the &$$. There's not even a heat sink or fan for the transformer. Yikes! -
I think you guys are making it a little to difficult... Why not make the RS232/ RS422 wireless? You could share the low voltage AC/ DC power for the camera for the adapter.

I agree. Just make sure you use a filter to scrub off any unwanted signals off the piggy backed CATV. Just because you can't see a picture on a CATV channel, doesn't mean there isn't a signal that needs to be filtered. Also be careful not to block desired communication for digital cable boxes or ISP.

Excellent common sense approach!

this is an old thread, but it looks like modern megapixel cameras eliminate the need for that complicated motion tracking stuff. Granted I don't have any experience with it, but I am pretty doubtful of it's reliability. AI is a long way off from being as good has human perception for areas of interest. That's why the Avigilon 16 megapixel camera gets me excited. That kind of resolution allows you to capture the entire scene AND simultaneously facilitating the ability for future PTZ like functions.

My company uses a ton of the March Networks 3108 systems and they are a Ethernet only system. No multiplexer, only a single spot out. Initial IP config is accomplished though RS232. They're great for sites that need to incorporate CCTV to their everyday desktops and no need for a dedicated server. It also helps to keep much needed space to a minimum while also keeping grubby paws of a fancy looking LCD monitor and keyboard. Our retail sites have a lot off part time help that are also be eager button pushers itchy to play. -
Looking For Reputable Distributor in The USA For Avermedia
bpzle replied to SmartCCTV's topic in AverMedia
I bought my first Aver product from Apex. They are local for me. The only thing I don't like is that they sell (looks primarily) to end users. Their tech support is pretty sharp though and they are willing to match prices, which I did have them do. -
Holy $%&*! What are you guys protecting? National security? Around my area the thieves are just dumb smash and grab car stereo snatchers. If theres a thief out there smart enough to jam my cell backup, cut my phone/ ISP, AND find disable/ my DVR, or cut my power/ generator and UPS then by God he deserves anything and whatever he wants in my house! At what point does the cost of prevention and protection outweigh the cost of replacement? The only thing I own that insurance and money can't replace are my family. And for THAT we use this black metal thing that goes boom real loud. Ok, I know this sounds ironic coming from a guy who makes a living installing security systems but just food for thought.... ALSO: How are you guys getting cllients that need all of that crap? I'd LOVE to be able to install a rediculously redundant system like that! KaCHING!

Last week while trying to setup a client's crack berry (T-Mobile), it kept getting a "connection failed" even though all the IP/ port settings were good. I eventually figured out that under Options/ Advanced/ TCP needed to be set. For the crack berry Ver. 4.2 and lower it was wap.voicestream.com and for Ver 4.5 and above, epc.t-mobile.com. Working now. Slow and unstable, but it works. I'm assuming this "TCP" setting will change depending on whoever your service provider is.

I am in the works of starting up a small CCTV sales/ service/ install business here in Texas. My target customer will be residential and small business. Right now I have cash in the bank to get my license and general liability insurance but before I get them, I’d like to already have a marketing campaign and product lineup ready to go. That way I can hopefully hit the ground running and get my monies worth out of the quick to expire legal crap. I’ve been researching different distributors to provide me with a solid but cost effective lineup that I can easily market. Does anyone have recommendations for distributors? I’m also in the works of paying a graphic designer to put together a flashy tri-fold brochure for me with a website and vehicle graphics soon to follow. I’d like to include some generic turnkey, installed 4 channel CCTV packages with options of “Good, Better, Bestâ€

I have little experience with IP cameras but just ordered the Acti ACM-4200, ACM-3511, and ACM-1231 to demo. Thoughts or suggestions on each? I like the price point for budget concerns. I'm mainly interested in how they perform in little to no light.

Before and after IP upgrade pics?
bpzle replied to bpzle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks guys! Anyone have any more video? -
Thanks for the recomendations. I looked up the SA6416E and SA9000E. They look promising except for one thing, the max recording resolution on the spec sheets say 720x480. Does this only apply to the analog inputs? If so, what is the max resolution for IP cameras? I'm specifically interested in upgrading to a couple 5 megapixel Arecont cameras later. Thanks again!

I have a budget of around $2-3k. I was initially looking at building my own system around GeoVision cards but I think that’s going to be too much of a pain then what its worth. I do like GeoVision’s ability to add advanced analytics like face detection, missing object, and POS support. Most distributors have countless custom-built packages but my head is starting to spin trying to make a decision. What would you recommend for a Hybrid NVR? Here are my following requirements: -Support 8 analog cameras. Record minimum 60FPS at D1. -Support a minimum of 4 IP cameras immediately. -Upgradeable at later date to support a total of 12 IP cameras. (future upgrades not to be included in budget, must just be capable.) -Support megapixel cameras and have a wide variety of manufacturer compatibility. -At least 2 audio channels. -At least 4 alarm I/Os -Support at least 1 spot/ call monitor -Must include all software. -I’d prefer it to be rack mount.
