I was told that a lot of times after installations the balun becomes loose resulting with the camera losing connection. So the connection goes bad, not the actual part. Are there any variables in choosing the correct fitting the balun uses? I used the Siamese RG59 instead of CAT5 on my last project due to what I was told.

Diginet Center will let you open the files but you need to have other files besides the bix and box which are audio and video files. I read you can try to find TechJunkies i3 DVR software to read those two types of files but I can't find any legit sources for you. Good luck!

I'd suggest looking into wireless repeaters to extend the wifi range for your ip camera application. Remember with wireless antennas that they need to be on both the sending and receiving end for proper communication. If you want to get all crazy you can set up a mesh network involving multiple wireless routers. Look up "Wireless Mesh Topology" in a search engine. [security Hombre]

Good work posting this tutorial scorpion. This backdoor trojan is pretty sneaky. Some peeps are scared manually removing trojans. Malwarebytes free removal tool should do this process pretty easily so newbies go download and remove away. Evil evil programmers making these viruses. psssh! [security Hombre]

Under the specs of a website selling Kodicon: "Remote view is available using web browser. Apache server is installed automatically with site software" This means if you have a lan cable running from the DVR to the router, log into the router and check the IP given to the hardware (DVR). Fire up a browser and throw the IP of the DVR in the address bar and you should be able to log in probably asking for credentials first. Hope this helps despite posting it months ago. The file "user.xml" stores those settings. You need to go backup that file. Here are instructions to navigate and backup. 1. Close SetPoint from the System Tray 2. Open %userprofile%\Application Data\Logitech\SetPoint (just copy and paste it in Start->Run) 3. Make a copy of the user.xml file in that folder. This file contains all of your SetPoint settings. Is the .image file a large file? Can you mount the file with an application like daemon tools or magiciso? If you can do that then access the files and use a player like VLC Player to play the media. [security Hombre]

Well you can open a port on the router to be used to port forward to a computer running a ssh server. There are many ways to set up this application on a server behind the router's firewall with minimal resources needed. This way there would be an encrypted tunnel through the internet before you accessed any application giving better security. I agree that scanners would try to pick at the open port giving your internet a headache. There are many ssh servers to choose from depending on the operating system you want to use. I was talked out of running cat5 cable to run siamese rg59 on my runs due to the fact that passive baluns will go bad and that high quality baluns would be better. I don't see the difference from using one type of balun to the next besides price. Any ideas on this?

smokingjoe where did you find cable? looking for a spool of 1000 ft of uv black. wanted to get a base price that most people are buying. Is the white version of the rg59 not uv protected? thanks. also if anyone is deciding on using rg59 over cat5 for analog cams. I heard that most passive baluns in conjunction with the cat5 go bad and installers should stick to using rg59 cable. Is this a fact?

Thanks This is my first post asking your expertise, my fellow security gurus. I have some pics attached. My budget on cameras is about $200-300/camera. The install is with a Geovision PC with CCTV analog cameras running UTP with baluns. I am leaning on the Sanyo VDC-C1574VA or the Panasonic WV-CF294 for my inside dome cameras and need help in choosing outside varifocal ccd cameras with housings for the pictures included. These would be day/night cameras concentrating in the day. 1. Picture of the Greenhouse Door and the Alley. There is a dead camera from long ago on the right. I think it is installed too low anyways and was thinking of putting the camera up higher and possibly on the high left above the door. The height is at 16' and I would like to cover the door and some (1/3-1/2) of the alley which extends 25' total so even 10' out would be good. I could mount it across from the alley if this is a better option which the other building is the same height. 2. Picture of the Loading Dock (trucks) and 2 Doors and a picture from the Door in front of the second truck looking the opposite direction. I need to get the truck and the two doors in the picture. I think it is too high to put a dome camera so another varifocal ccd is what I'm thinking. Height of the tall door is 8' and the top of the building is 18'. I could mount from 30' away from the door aiming at the side of the truck and the door but would I get both in the picture? The height of that mount would be 15'. Total width from that mount to right of building would be 15.5'. 3. The picture of the Bigdoor with the lady standing in front and the picture of the driveway in front. The goal is to get the Big slide door and the driveway. I think this would need to have 2 cameras. One facing down at the door and one facing towards the driveway. The big door is 16' high and 8.5' width. The steepest part of the building on the right is 19' high. Total width of the building is 30.5'. What kind of suggestions should I have for mounting? I was thinking of having one camera on the top right of the building facing down left to get the door and maybe a truck coming around the bend and one camera mounted to the right facing the other driveway to get people and trucks. I labeled the pictures the numbers accordingly. This is first difficult installation in an industrial situation so I'm really excited in doing this correctly.
