anyone else get a pm from these guys? -
outside all day installing.. ladder blew off the building and was stuck on roof -- good thing i had another guy with me and my cell so i could call him over to pickup my ladder and get me down... then onto the 35ft lift to mount some spectras and cams on light posts - swaying in the wind is never fun at 30ft and 30degrees! windy as hell and 30s and it was even snowing this morning here in chicago.... why cant all my outdoor installs schedule for the summer months?? tired and thawing after 8hrs cheers pg

has anyone used this coax stripper? my cheapo has made it about a year and has been fine but im thinking about upgrading to a good one... any suggestions? i think this one runs about 60-70bucks which is a bit more than the 15buck one i use

ahhh,, one of the reasons why i dont buy bullet cameras i always go with a box camera and then an outdoor housing that has a heater/blower for the cold winters and hot summers here in chicago... id keep sending them back to you get one that works but that can also be a pain good luck pg

does the camera have a heater and a fan? i have heard one way of keeping condensation down is to throw one of those packets(i dont know what it is but usually says on it dont eat lol - it absorbs moisture when things are shipped) you get with ur cameras in the housing if not get a housing that has a heater and fan so that it controls the temp inside the housing and no more condensation unless the housing is a bad cheap on that doesnt work

canare ts100 coax stripper
griffonsystems replied to griffonsystems's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
ive done a bit more digging on this and they say canare tools only work on canare cable which i sorta find hard to believe - its all shielded coax but ok.. i have also checked into Xcelite's coax stripper and have used it before (its very good and easy to use) -- what does everyone else use? -

24vac for the cameras especially if they are outdoor and need a housing with a heater/blower - they need 24vac so go 24vac for camera as well.. usually a jumper in the housing to the camera... and most ptzs need at least 24vac not 12vdc i use intel chipset but dont know if itll make a diff with amd.. get plenty of ram and plenty of hd - im using the 500GB wd drives right now - 1 for 8 and 2 for 16 using a mp4 hardware compression board with all cams recorsding 704x480 - eats a lot of gigs at that res -
Suggestions for new configuration in our surveillance room
griffonsystems replied to MetalguitarJames's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
lcd over plasma for cctv because the clarity will be better and no worry of burnin that will degrade the picture clarity over time... have your dvrs setup with dvi/hdmi output if you are connecting them to the 42inch lcd -
Looking for collective wisdom on GV combo card & system
griffonsystems replied to Geoffrey's topic in Geovision
if you want to break out the monitor output to two monitors just use a product like a vga extender (200bucks), i just bought one from black box, to split the monitor output to a 19"lcd and a 37" lcd and it worked perfect. my monitors were about 100ft from eachother in one case and 300ft in another and both came out fine. usually the composite output on a compression card is pretty weak and will give a less than stellar picture on a digital device like a lcd/plasma etc. i dont use geo so i cant respond to your other question but make sure to check the onboard video or video card compatibility with the geo card - the system i use has to have an ati card for example -

Aerial Cables
griffonsystems replied to hometownsecurity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
if you can achieve the shot from the building then i would go back and find out their thoughts on why theyd want it out on the pole.. explain to them the issues with mounting a camera that close to lights and on something less stable that will sway in the wind ive had clients that just dont think you can get a lens that will zoom in from 200ft out and the picture will be perfect.. maybe you can convince them to review your shot from the buidling first and if they dont like it then move to the pole as a secondary shot -
Aerial Cables
griffonsystems replied to hometownsecurity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
just buy aerial coax - it as a "manwire"/guidewire attached to the cable that you can use to attach to a clip on the pole and a clip on the building so your not putting tention on the actually coax.. ive used it at scrapyards and its been fine -
thanks j, i forgot about march networks... i am going to explore an opportunity with them and see what happens anyone use their stuff? nvr/dvr video analytics? pg

Tricks of the Trade - For the Video Installer - Part 2 of 5
griffonsystems replied to rapid's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
yeah i have the "fish sticks" that i use a lot.. most of mine are badly injured from use - the ends are broken, etc.. but they do help... i'd like to teach one of those mini chihuahua dogs to pull wire for me but havnet had the time to train one yet maybe that new robotic sony dog could be taught to run along the ceiling tiles and pull cable -
i try to go about 10% on hardware cost but that is dependant on client and other factors.... i try not to limit it by number of calls or make it too detailed so that they dont read through this huge paragraph of the plan and then decide that its not for them.. i have a good handle on what clients would abuse that service but most wouldnt
-
this is a good thread and i hope people respond with a lot of good ideas - i do a 2nd year maintenance/replacement/software upgrade plan for my clients as a recurring rev for my business - its been fairly successful - the cost is a percentage of their initial system cost and based on an analysis of how many times i went to their location for troubleshooting/training/help i'd like to come up with other plans tho for 2007
