    new card from geovision

i went to the geovision roadshow in chicago last week and they did a demo of this (i think this is what your talking about) where they boxed out a light and a fan on a camera shot and clicked each one and they would use the cards' i/o to turn on and off the desklamp and fan - was interesting -- i believe it is coming with v8.1 which they said will be out in 2month which i would think means early q1

    Problem with sun through windows

first id turn blc off.. but you might want to try a camera like a pano or ganz that has wide dynamic range that can adjust to 2 lighting conditions... and of course go with a dc auto iris lens
  3. if you set the recording res on 704x480 you wont have a grainy picture
  4. i like the chance-i hardware compression cards
  5. i have an installation next week where i am installing several spectra iii ptz's and i want to park them on a shot during the day and then when nite comes have them run a pattern then back to park when day comes back.. has anyone done this before? i talked to pelco today and asked if the new spec4 would have programing based on hr or schedule and they said yes but that doesnt really help me with my current install... anyone have a device that could trigger these alarms to control the ptz?? thx pg
  6. good morning, i am going into one of these discussions with a client today and wanted to know if anyone has been in one lately and how they faired. i am not necessary anti ip but i just havent installed or have seen anything that was overly impressive.... for this client they have around 40 cameras with 15 of them ptz.. i know you can setup encoder/decoders for all the current cameras but isnt that a pain especially for the ptzs - dont you have to run new utp for the ptz you cant just connect some kind of digial convert on it to run it? im going to just run the meeting collecting data and then asking open questions about what they want and let them come to a conclustion themselves about what solution would be better and not trying to come off as a dvr supporter even tho at this point i am any advice?
  7. hard to belive that no one has come across this need and has a solution to this.....
  8. if you dont need to control the ptz remotely just setup a joystick like the kbd300a from pelco to the spec3 and control it from there.. most cards come with a ptz card where u connect the data wires and then set the protocol, etc within the software

    Mulitple cameras over fiber

are you sure all the fiber lines are being used for the network? if you have one spare one you can run all cameras on it goes something like this; camera ->coax -> fiber transmitter ->fiber optic cable ->fiber receiver->coax->dvr/monitor/mux or whatever they make multi channel transmitters and receivers so u can run all cams to a central location then send it all over fiber then it splits it back out on the other end. ive used american fibertek's products on past jobs and havent been let down - http://www.americanfibertek.com/index.html

    Warehouse installation

for the baydoors i would go with a wide dynamic range camera - i have done several warehouses here in chicago and you need a wdr camera like panasonic's to get a good picture with the 2 lighting conditions. harddrive failure usually will happen with the hd thats storing all the video and i always have the separate from the os so you dont have to reload xp when it goes down.. with embedded if the system goes down and it isnt the hd then you have to send the entire unit back to the mfg or dealer with a pc based system you can goto ur local electronics store and buy a new video card, or memory or hd,etc and be back and running - my2cents i would go with 2 16s rather than 1 32 becuase u will get better resolution and framerate per camera with a 16. lots of people here like geovision for dvrs. as for cameras i would go with panasonic for wdr for the baydoors and you could go with a ganz indoor dome or box camera for the indoor shots feel free to pm or email me if u need anything good luck

    video dist amp

ok i have a client where i setup a pelco video dist amp and i have it output to a dvr and 2 16ch mux and 2 montitors... my question is "is there a better way to split off the video signal that will give a better picture quality than what i have done" i thought about kvm switch but each location needs its own control of the cameras, etc the client is adding another large lcd/plasma 42" for a viewing station and i was lookign to explore other avenues if there are any thx pg
  12. Ipix, which provided 360-degree camera technology, reported losses of $3.8 million for the first quarter of 2006 and $22.4 million in losses in 2005. http://www.securitydirectornews.com/index.php?p=article&id=sd2006085ETi19 i never installed one 360degree cam,, people think its cool but not willing to throw out the cash and i never though the picture looked that good either my2cents pg

    Camera Suggestions For Manufacturers

if you just buy 12vdc then you have to run 24vac for the housing and 12vdc for the camera.. i think thats why most of us hate 12vdc cameras because if you mounting it outside in a housing you have to have 2 dif power

    High-Definition CCTV

the pic looks great but if you take into account the file size of recording at that level over lets say 15-30 days you are looking at huge amount of terabites to save which would blow most people's budget

    Wide Dynamic Range Camera?

i just got my new pano 484s from my dist today for an upcoming job.. im excited to see how well they work.. i was impressed already with how they look... any suggestions on setup, etc i will be installing them on a 15ft drop ceiling focused on a hotels revolving door to the outside catching faces

A few problems: maybe you have solutions?

i think its impossible to tell without seing it but go back and check your connections, power and video -- i would bet some might have loose bnc connectors. if you have a test monitor goto each camera and check for video. i just typed out a rant of how people should use the help of professional installers (guys that have been aroudn that sell solid systems that they support well after the install) but erased it because im not hear to preach to anyone how they should buy a system just to offer my 2cents.. it felt good to vent tho
  18. maybe port forwarding is your issue - check into that
  19. i found a coaxitron converter (ad3016 from bolide) that will convert the signal to rs485 so i guess my question becomes how does an ip system control cameras with rs485? or do the ptz have to be ip cameras? thx pg
  20. anyone have a mfg of a outdoor houseing with heater/blower that is easy to install and works well with a good price... i havent been happy with the ones ive used this year

    reliability of outdoor PTZ cams

i use pelco spec iii all the time here in chicago and our winters can get bad as well.. 4-5yrs for some of the parts(motor) but the actual camera should last longer... the first thing that usually fails is the motor if its on a set tour 24/7 or moved around a lot... a lot of times the joystick controller fails before the camera does

    indoor ir mini ptz domes

i had a request from another company i work with that does residential installs and they have a client that wants ir ptz domes to put in his kids bedrooms to check on them at nite when hes out of the house on business - i guess he's some hotshot that drops lots of money on "gadgets" in his house and wants the best.... any advice on mfg? the first one that came to my head was extreme cctv but what do u guys think? thx pg

    indoor ir mini ptz domes

    wireless project

i'd check out Microteks wireless cams for this application.. as long as you have line of sight you should be fine with wireless... but not sure if u do with the trees.. ive tested microtek at 900' but they make longer range systems but they will be pricey
