ok i have a client that is looking for a bandaide approach to adding another camera to his 8 channel dvr but not adding another card at this point. if i run another camera back to the dvr what device can i use to connect both coax lines to and then connect to the dvr so that that one channel will have both video on one channel - i never tried the cheap cable video split that u can find anywhere but i dont think that will do it.. prob need to get a quad? thx pg

one of those problems that hurts ur brain trying to solve
griffonsystems posted a topic in Security Cameras
ok i replaced 4 old ptz indoor domes with new pelco spec iii a few weeks ago.. put them all in and used the current data and video wiring back to the dvr and to an existing pelco kbd360 controller. after toning out a few lines coming back to the security room we got everything hooked up correct and working - there are a total of 7 ptzs. next week they call and one of the ptz is not moving. go back yesterday to check it out and find out that someone had been trying to clean up the old wiring that ran from the new ptz in the drop ceeling out a door into a stairwell and was running next to pipes. they had cut the data wire and tried to piece it back together but didnt do it right and thats where the problem was.. so we patch it back together and go upstairs to the room and its workign but now # 4 and 5 ptz arent working..... all ptz come back on their own data line to the room except 6 and 2 are on the same line. we connect each ptz by itself to the controller and they work but when we connect them all to the controller one or 2 dont work!!! this post could go on a bit longer but i dont know what to do other than try and get all ptzs on their own line coming back to the controller.. any advice??? -

Twist on bnc connectors wire stripping question
griffonsystems replied to fas's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
i only use twist on. strip the coax (i use the tool that u put on ur finger and rotate around a few times) and make sure the braiding isnt wrapped aroudn the center conductor or touching in anyway. then cut the center conductor at an angle so that i slides into the bnc easy and twist.. no need to bend back the braiding that will only cause a piece to fall off and maybe touch the center conductor and ull lose ur picture -
new fiber termination tool
griffonsystems replied to jeromephone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
ever use the 3m fiber splices? break the fiber with a cleve, clean and then connect with fibersplice without heating, polish, etc.. -
1st question is, do you have a clean line of site from the camera to the receiver? i just designed a wireless system for a scrap yard and am going with a solution from Microtek - ML581000E (good reviews on here and a 30day no questions asked return policy if the system doesnt work) http://www.microtekelectronics.com/ once i get the system in ill report on the image quality and any install or distortion issues (probably a dumb thing to mention but...) make sure the line of sight between the wireless transmitter and receiver doesnt get blocked by the incoming/outgoing cars/trucks or youll lose signal.

2" Conduit 220VAC and 12VDC?
griffonsystems replied to kandcorp's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
i ran into the same issue at a scrap yard install and we are going with fiber. running coax in the same pipe as 220 is not code and will give poor results -

30fps at d1 res(740x480) record for all 16ch pc impossible!
griffonsystems posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
can someone prove to me that this is possible. you see marketing or even tech specs that say 480fps and resolutions of 740x480 but i know the path from the compression card to the harddrive cannot support this data load no matter what compression you are using. if someone can explain the data stream on a 16bit bus or prove to me that this is possible i would appreciate it. the 16channel system(mpeg4) that i sell does d1 704x480 at 7.5fps for all 16 and does lowres at 30fps for all 16. my guess is that if you break the 16 into 4 cards maybe that will give you the ability to do 30fps/d1/16 - but i havent tested that out thx pg -
30fps at d1 res(740x480) record for all 16ch pc impossible!
griffonsystems replied to griffonsystems's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
so thomas is saying a non compressed video stream of 16 cameras is possible so is the issue the compression card not being able to compress that size data stream in real time the issue? im trying to get thru the grey area thats all over this industry thanks in advance for the help -
i only use western digital and knock on wood havent had a failure yet.. my tivo failed after a year and i opened it up and found a crapy maxtor drive in it so i will stay away from them for my surveillance dvrs

Do you charge for service calls?
griffonsystems replied to fas's topic in General Digital Discussion
i've gotten more sales from other vendors that have screwed over their customer on service calls ($800 charges because the vendor had to rent a lift to reach an outdoor camera, etc.)...remember how dificult it was to get this customer, dont lose them by charging them 250bucks for 10min worth of work.. but i also know the biz is not a charity but i make sure in the first year i pad 3-4 extra calls into the price of the system so that i cover myself for the "how do i do this again" calls. happy customers give referrals and give you more business. -
