griffonsystems replied to Michelangelo's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
for under 8 the linsys/cisco 8ch poe switch has been solid for my larger installs i have been using adtran 24port poe switches with 4 port gig uplinks for the storage servers and they have done well for the large managed switches it goes adtran, hp, cisco in order of cost and some would say performance but ive been happy with the adtrans - they run about a grand -
Wireless IP cameras???? any ideas?
griffonsystems replied to ronhithcox's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
i have used avalan wireless point to point bridge 5.8ghz 1.5mb/s radios and they have worked well i have also used microtek for analog wireless and they do work but you get interference with the picture if i need wireless from now on i go with mobotix for the camera and avalan -- it was really easy i just plugged them in and they work, no need to address the radios they auto detect and you're good -

griffonsystems replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
i had success with the q24 in a lobby that was shaped like a cross, it covered all areas with one camera instead of two or more i have installed over a hundred mobotix cameras in the past year and am very happy with what they have currently and what will be coming in their next release late this year the m12 is the camera i use for outside because of the dual lens - color and black and white -
POE - Will it work from a router?
griffonsystems replied to magohn's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
the router has to be a poe router which i'll say it isnt(usually you need to use a poe switch), so go find poe injectors(cat5e plugs into one end and then you plug it into an outlet and then you run cat5e to the router and power is injected through the cat5e to the camera) -

Voice Detection?
griffonsystems replied to bpzle's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
why not just do outdoor pir detectors so it picks them up when they get close to the building - the only device that would be able to alert him when it hears human voices would be a human guard sitting there all night -
POE Switch Suggestion?
griffonsystems replied to bpzle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
make sure the poe switch will give equal power to all ports or you might run out of power for all the cameras yes use the gig ports to the nvr ive used adtran poe and cisco/linksys for a smaller poe switch and both worked great -
watch for frame rate decrease when you have 2 16ch boards in one dvr - the ability of the drives to keep up with all those feeds has to be investigated good luck

griffonsystems replied to Lesst's topic in Introductions
doesn't it take just as long to sell someone a cheap (low margin) system than it does to sell someone an expensive (higher margin) system, sure there are exceptions but you will need to sell a hell of a lot of cheap systems to keep your business afloat. you need to find a solution that's reliable (I think this is key to a successful cctv business unless your business is based on service calls but that will also lead to unhappy clients which leads to no referrals and getting a bad name which will kill your business), delivers the image and functionality your customer demands and makes you a decent margin. deals are definitely hard to come by right now which makes it even more important to spend time selling to those people/businesses where you will make money not just push product. -

vegas and that 52" plasma are sexy, a crappy 200buck cctv system is not.. maybe try going with some megapixel ip camera shots tie one mp camera into that tv so the wife can pull up the camera on the tv and maybe they'd bite.. gotta get creative these days and build a solid foundation of good clients that you bend over backwards for even if ur eating labor cost...if you put in solid systems that solve peoples problems your name will get out there and people will start to come to you good luck pg -
i'd also recommend mobotix here is a picture (tried to upload must be 2 large or at my limit) of the m12 with avalan 5.8ghz radios sending the video 1000' line of sight back to the main building from a remote parking lot pole. we had to use a battery and charger that is recharged at night when the lights are on so that during the day the camera remains on using the battery to power it.. the cameras run on just 3w of power so its ideal for these type of solutions... the ftp with snapshot recording would be the way to go like mya has said

i have been using mobotix cameras for over a year and still haven't scratched the surface on everything the camera is possible of doing...and just like going to hd on your tv, you won't want to go back to analog 480rez after you have messed around with megapixel -

griffonsystems replied to monostump's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
look at mobotix, everything is done on the camera no nvr - streams right to nas or you can use sd card in camera for limited time recording.. 3megapixel color cameras and all are indoor/outdoor ip65 rated and all are poe cheers, pg -
