4 ip cameras running on dsl over the net to a network server would be brutal - low frame rate and low res to get anything close to realtime video recording

data distribution unit for 4 channels - does it exist
griffonsystems posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
i know pelco makes a 16channel data dist unit that amps or cleans the data signal strenght to all ptz's connected but i am looking for a cheap solution to a ptz problem im having with my dvr for 4 cameras. using spectra iiis and a kbd300a keyboard, actually 2 keyboards and the dvr to control 4 ptzs i think the answer to my problem is to amp the signal from the dvr.. any suggestions?? -
i could do either, put it in a small box or rack box

ive run cat5e with cat3 vertical with nvt baluns with no issues but i hate to terminate cat5, with baluns u dont have 2 but when you running ip cams you do... its prob just lack of practice but getting the right colors and crimping it into the end sucks coax can take a beating and still trasmit high quality video, cat5 cable isnt as forgiving as i remember

data distribution unit for 4 channels - does it exist
griffonsystems replied to griffonsystems's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
that kalatel device looks like it might work... i have 3 control devices (one kbd300a upstairs in an office, one kbd300a dowstairs, and one dvr upstairs) i have 4 spec3s that need to be controlled by each controller. each of the spec 3s come into the upstairs office homerun on 18/2 and 22/2 data wire... at one point in time all controllers controlled the ptz, but then the dvr stopped... figured the ptz card burned out so switched that one but no luck... ive seen this problem before and it was solved with the pelco data dist device so was lookign for a cheaper alternative.. i feel like the signal is weak coming from the dvr control card since its the only one thats not able to control all 4.. if i connect 2 its fine but when i add the 3 and 4 then none move -
your thoughts/opinions/criticisms/ on this setup
griffonsystems replied to gambler's topic in General Digital Discussion
i would throw 2 500GB drives in that box with storage being so cheap; all the cameras you listed can be powered with 24vac so i would just go with one 16channel altronix powersupply - you could even get away with using an 8 - the indoor cameras dont have any draw to them at all... but go ac so you dont have to worry about polarity or distance. use good coax with copper braiding from west penn or another quality mfg and go with a 17 or 19inch monitor - crt would be best but a quality lcd thats not widescreen will be fine i also like ganz/cbc america for their lightweight indoor domes - zcd6039nha i think is the model i use for my hotel/hospital clients. -- 2 screws with 2 of those white drywall anchors pinched between the drop ceiling tile and ur on to the next one -easy install work -

2 of the distances are roughly 150ft and the other 2 are 50ft... both kbd300a work fine - they are all homerun tho,, the wire is 18g and 22g -- im going to switch out the dvr ptz card to a brand new one and start over.. will look into the wiring as well if needed... and ill check out the above product thanks for the help pg -
has anyone else been hit with this bs this week?? my order for 5 env spec4 is on backorder with my distributor until november!!! is what pelco is telling them... does anyone have stock of SD435PGE0

Coax, Cat5 or wire....
griffonsystems replied to cyboyeee's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
i assume you are putting analog cameras in.. for that short distance i would just run coax rg59, baluns are another failure point and about 50bucks per camera and coax is much tougher and less affected by rf than twisted pair as for balun mfgs: ive used nvt and nitek and have been happy with both baluns.. u start to have problems when you go with cheap oem ones my 2cents -
now its back to the last week in october.... guess no one else sells the 35x spec 4...

Is Toshiba IK-6410A true day/night?
griffonsystems replied to Scruit's topic in General Digital Discussion
i use that camera for most of my outdoor applications that dont require ir and have decent lighting at night - the camera will flip to b/w at night. for me it does a good job (clear picture) and i haven't had one(knock on wood) go bad in some harsh enviroments -
let's hope schneider puts a stop to this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pFlFc06rWM

I Wants to view 4 camera on lan
griffonsystems replied to Rahul_jagad's topic in Computers/Networking
do they want to view the cameras all together on one screen? if so, you need to buy ip cameras and then an ip management software like milestone if they just want to pull up each camera alone just connect the ip cams to the network, give them a static ip and then have the type in the ip in internet explorer - its usually a active x control or java that will be used to view the camera which resides on the camera -
i use them. i have found them very stable and good image quality - i only use the hardware compression boards tho
-
once they see the cost for the high end ir cameras for that application they will probably tell you they will leave lights on at night and use regular cameras.. i have done a few warehouses and thats usually the routine.. but extreme is a great line for ir

Crimp on or Twist on?
griffonsystems replied to ronster's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
ive been using twist for 3 years... no issues... if you install cameras correctly why would you need a connector to withstand someone hanging on it i love people get personal about this topic more than anything else - twist ons are for losers i only use gold plated compression... whatever takes you less time on install and gives you less service calls is what you should use... cheers, pg -
