Confused about TWISTED VIDEO BALUN will they work on <---
sviviani replied to Drewme's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
it will work, will it work like cat 5? yes and no, with the cat 5 you are less likely to get interference, but in a home there should not be much so you should be fine. since it is old 4 wire, i would go with a higher quality balun like nvt and you should be good to go. -
poe stands for power over ethernet. there you would need a poe switch or injector to use it, it does not go "over the air". and it would not be needed with analog cameras. hope this helps

wireless DVR box and camera bought separate?
sviviani replied to gadgetbest's topic in Security Cameras
unless by wireless you mean wifi? -
a simple test would be to use a continuity tester. touch one lead to center pin and the other to the outside. do this to both sides. continuity here is bad, means you have a short, redo one or both sides. when that test is good, test center pin on one side to center pin on other side, this time you want continuity. no continuity means open redo one or both ends, when that is good test outside to outside, you want continuity again. now if you redo any ends, test all again to make sure you have it right.

depends on local codes. here it is legal but comes to asthetics, security, and what the customer will pay for.

Get out your protractors, and sharpen your pencils!

I'm with VST, sell them on you and the quality of product and service over the other bid. I get alot of these and bid them anyway, half the people get scared by the number and run, the other half want to know why you are so much higher, you show them what you offer over the other guy using no name brand and you get the job. -

Feedback requested on my "how to page"
sviviani replied to scorpion's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
don't forget wire strippers, I have a permanent groove in my thumb nail from that. All in all good instructions. I would watch your web show, maybe you can do a podcast too. One quick question, with all your tweets, webcasts, tutorials, podcasts, ect ect do you work anymore? jk -
put in a solar light and turn off the IR flash? if it is a good cam it should pick up the plate. or get a different ir illuminator to shine at the plate from a different angle and the light may not reflect directly back at the camera.

with a job that size, there is no premade list of what needs to be done, it is really custom made to that job. If you gave us what you had it could be looked over and suggestions made, but at least I could not give you a job overview of a project that big sight unseen.

How to Delete Recorded Data Dvrnet 880
sviviani replied to bongsky's topic in Digital Video Recorders
what type of dvr? format hard drive or let it record over itself. Why would you want to delete it? -
Don't quite understand port forwarding and kudos
sviviani replied to Rio_Grande's topic in Computers/Networking
if you have an IT department, they should have been able to get this up in minutes, why didn't you ask them for help? If you have a router and a bridge you may need to set up NAT and port forwarding to get from the outside to the DVR. What type of business is this set up in that the workers don't know it's there? and did you check to see if it is legal? depending on location, it doesn't matter if it is audio or video. -
have not used it but from what i read this is not a modulator. it is basically a fancy a/b switch. you put the modulator in one input, the modulator in the other, and then switch between the two. So yes it will work with analog cable, digital cable, even satalite.

help with installing dome cameras under eave
sviviani replied to alpine0000's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
sometimes they put them in with metal clips above/in the attic and leave one out every 4-6 feet. then only one will pop out and you reach in and take the clip out and take out the next one and so on. -
scorpion is right about the active x, but if that is not it, make sure the ip is in your trusted sites in internet security settings, I had problems like that before.

you set up an ip with almost the same as others on the lan. is the router set up to recognize that as a static ip, or is it in the dynamic range? if the router dynamic range is 1-50 and you gave the pc an ip ending in 8, you may be getting conflicts. you need to set the dvr outside the dynamic range and set the static address on the router and dvr, or set the dvr to get the address automatically and the the router assign the ip address. hope this helps -

also, have you been able to get into the dvr from a computer on the same network yet. If not that is always my first step. You may have a config issue. You will never get on remotely if you can't get on locally. -

sviviani replied to Rio_Grande's topic in Computers/Networking
this may be a surveillance specific site who discusses this issue, but it is far from a surveillance specific issue. port forwarding is as you said as simple as opening up the firewall, but some isp have the ports blocked as well, so even if you open a port on your router/firewall, you may not be able to use it. port forwarding and or NAT allows you to go from one computer on one network to a computer on another network. with cctv it acts like remote desktop on some levels. So if you are at home and want to work on your server at work, cctv dvr, or whatever you enter your work ip:port number to get to a specific machine. sorry for the long, vague, and simplified answer, but it is a very broad and hard to answer question.
