$1,000 budget for a system. Being threatened by scum bags.
sviviani replied to cronin's topic in System Design
I had to google her... what a sad, misguided individual (at least by my American standards) me too -
you need to change the ip setting in your dvr to your new static ip. how many ip's did you get? if one then you need to setup port forwarding in and nat in your router from the static wan to your private lan.
-
that would work, not ideal but for what your doing it should. Most of those usb dongles come with some type of software built in.

I have been designing and installing small to mid size systems for a while now, just found this forum recently and it has already been a great help to me. hopefully I will be able to contribute as well as learn here.

exactly. also, look at your router (usually underneath) and see if it says what the default ip gateway should be. some routers have this.

your english is better than my Spanish, no need to apologize. It would be a pleasure to work with you.

like they said, just make sure it is paintable.

sorry if this is a stupid question, but are they both in the same router? Is one wired and one on wifi? if you are getting 2 different ip (10 and 192) it sounds like you are somehow connected to 2 different routers, even if this was in an enterprise and vlans were set, they would still start in the same range.

what do you use to tune your cameras dvd player, etc?
sviviani replied to acableconnection's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
not sure what the question is, what are you using the dvd player for, is it a dvd burner for recording the video? how are you dropping it? or is it a portable dvd you are using for the screen to see the cameras with? -
Samsung SHR 504X / Netgear router - Internet setup problems
sviviani replied to Seagull1's topic in Computers/Networking
sorry if you already said this, but can you get into the dvr from another computer on the same network? -
have you tried getting in from a computer on the same network? if you can't you have a network problem, if you can't I think c7 is right.
-
it sounds like it is definately a problem with the network setup on your dvr. What os is it? Windows or Linux? if windows go to network connections, right click on local connection and select properties, click on tcp/ip and make it get ip automatically. if you were to put in your own numbers here you would also have to set them up in your router. once done ok out then get a command line and type "ipconfig/release" without the quotes then enter then type "ipconfig/renew" without the quotes then enter. you should then see it come up with the new ip in the 192 range

Best way to convert IP to Analogue Video
sviviani replied to matter2048's topic in General Digital Discussion
what else is the plasma's being used for? if presentations, modulated signals will work, if digital cable, you will run into issues if you try to plug a modulated signal into the system without notch filters, and just because a channel looks empty, like 80 for instance and you add in a notch filter that may kill digital channels 110-120, depending on your cable company of course. -
I think c7 is right, what the phone tech was talking about is a static ip. your router should give out a private ip such as 192.168.0.??? to each device attached to it. on the public side you will get a dynamic address that will change a unknown intervals, when the router is rebooted, when phone company feels like it. So if you would like to see your dvr from inside your home you can see it through the 192 address, from outside your home you would first need to see what the public ip is, from inside the router config look at the WAN address, and that should work untill it changes. to keep your public side the same always, you will need to get a static address, which costs more per month, or subscribe to a dns forwarding service. these range from free to $$$ per month depending on the service and what it is used for.

Licensing and Installation.
sviviani replied to JoannaSerah's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
not sure what state you are in, but it is always good to get someone with a state contractors license who is bonded and insured, you could do it yourself but a good contractor will warenty the work and usually train you on how to use it. -
how many camera's are you thinking of? how far away do you need to see? do you have some pictures of the house or a simple drawing? and most importantly, how much are you thinking of spending? Give as much info as you can and you will get some very good answers here.

I have done this same install with both fiber and copper, the end result is the same. The main difference is the price of the components, the fiber transievers are more $$$, but very easy to use. You are saying you have to install the feeder, does this mean there are no existing feeders between buildings? if there are existing feeders I would use what is there, if there are not, 1400 feet of fiber is much easier to install than 1400 feet of 25 pair copper.

I normally lay out the cameras myself based upon experience, then figure out the lens based on distance and field of view, but some of the design software will let you lay in a floor plan and show what the customer will see, kinda nice when trying to sell a system. Just wanted to know what is out there and the most user friendly before I buy a system that may not be as good as one I don't know or haven't heard of.
