Shore View Security - Anyone know what happened?
sattech2000 posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
Just wondering if anyone know's what happened to shore view security? Mike was awsome to work with and I always had a great experience with every install I did. It's been a while since i've done any but now I need to purchase a few more systems and want to exhaust all my attempts of reaching him. Any info is greatly apreaciated. Thank you Randy -
First office install – Need ideas for wall plates where ever
sattech2000 posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Evening all! My past installs have been in basements or equipment rooms. I’m working on my first office install for a 6 camera system. It’s new construction (Thankfully). I’m planning six Siamese and cat 5 runs to the cameras. Then I need two cat 5 runs for network. Also 2-4 RG6 runs back to the video distribution system (still need to verify the quantity on that). Am planning a 9 camera power supply cabinet. My first idea is to have the Siamese split inside the wall. The power would feed through the back of the Power supply cabinet that is mounted on the wall. Then I like to use the leviton face plates (from my network installs) with snap in jacks. I could use 6bnc snap ins and 6 RJ45 snap ins in a double gang box. Then a second single gang box with the necessary network/rg-6 connections. Then a third electrical outlet (electrician). I forgot to build this in the quote and see that it will get a little pricy for all of this. Just wondering if anybody has any different ideas? I need to make this professional looking. Not sure I could get away with just running the wires through the wall, or is that typical to do? Also on new construction do you typically use low voltage cutouts or a standard electrical box? Thoughts and or pictures are greatly appreciated. Thank you Randy -
Afternoon! Need some advice from experience. Need to try and get this right on the first order I place. I have a 4ch dvr being modulated with a 4ch Channel Plus Modulator. That is being feed into a channel plus 8200 amplified distribution block. When the cable was installed (fed to the 8200, basic cable only) the Modulated channels turn very fuzzy. The cable CO looks fine. From what I understand, correct me if I’m wrong, is the cable line coming in is very hot overpowering the modulated channels. I figure I need a notch filter but haven’t found one for four channels. Any advice there? Also should I consider trying to amplify the modulated channels or some type of filter on the cable line? Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you

I think I might be better off using two filters. NF-470 and NF-471. That way I won't mess with any of the digital channels above channel 100. The NF470+NF471 would block out channels 70-80. See any problems with that? -

the one you recommended won't work according to the specs I found. Am I missing something? This one will only give me two modulated channels with a once channel spacing. NF-471 Specs Rejects CATV channels 75 to 80 Allows insertion of CATV channels 76, 77, 78, & 79 -

Thank you for taking the time to help me on this. I will try to explain the current setup better. Currently I have three cameras that go to a four channel modulator. http://www.channelplus.com/product_detail.php?productId=101 the modulator is capable of doing pass through, however I have to use the T-BNC splitters and remove a jumper on the unit to enable this feature. I’m guessing the jumper is to not terminate or something like that. Then the lines feed the DVR unit from the T-BNC. The DVR Quad output is then fed back to the fourth modulated input. The modulated output is run to an 8 port bi-directional Rf Distribution Amp. http://www.channelplus.com/product_detail.php?productId=59 The distribution amp has an input for the cable company and two inputs for modulated options (The combiner) and then distributes to 8 TV’s. I’m only using one modulated input although I tried both inputs with the same results. I would have to check again to make sure, but I’m fairly certain the DVR recording (which is after the modulator using the BNC T’s) is not affected. Also when the cable line is removed the modulated channels look great. I believe this would point the problem to the difference in signal strengths between the modulator and the Cable Company. However I’m not certain of this and that’s why I’m here asking you experienced guys. I have to place an order tomorrow and have it overnighted for a Wednesday delivery so I want to make my best educated guess on what to order to fix the problem. I read another post, which I think you wrote, explaining the teeter totter affect. That makes a lot of sense and is where I got the idea of the problem being a difference in strengths. My ideas to fix the problem would be a notch filter, that would blank out the Cable Channels. But I’m not certain that would entirely fix the problem and haven’t found one that would give me the ability to have four modulated channels. I did find a band pass filter that would block out everything above channel 90(I think it was). But would that affect the HD signals? The cable service is basic cable, no set top boxes, but does have some HD channels. And/Or should I try to get the two signals to be relativity matched? And what exactly would I use to decrease the cable co signal or do I just increase the modulator to match the Cable strength? I might have access to a strength meter but not the knowledge to go along with it(long story and I should know for sure tomorrow). Again thank you for any ides you might have on this problem. It’s helping me out a lot. I’m getting into doing this stuff and kinda got burnt on the $180 distro amp that I thought would fix the problem. Randy -

Preferred Video Delivery to Police? - My first bust, Yea!!!
sattech2000 posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Evening all, Great board! I had my first bust on Sunday, what a great feeling being a do it yourselfer on this system. Group of people came in, one distracted our employee while the other two stole everything in her purse that was sitting behind the reception desk. Got em red handed, if only we can find a name behind the face’s. I exported the video from geovision 7.05 and gave it to the police along with snapshot pics, later I realized they wont be able to view the video without the Geovision Codec installed. So I’m curious what others have learned from experience is the best way to deliver the evidence to the police? I am almost thinking of taking that video and burning it as a video DVD, that way it will play in most dvd players and won’t be dependent on computers. Any thoughts or experience on the best way to do this is greatly appreciated. Also when I did the AVI export from view log it looks like I’m loosing some quality, I set the export to the highest resolution. Any thoughts. Thanks all Randy PS, Wanted to give a plug to the guy’s over at digital watchguard. Had a rough start with this system and they did a great job working with me pre-sale and then hooked me up with a great deal!!! System has been rock solid with the new card. Thanks a million digital watchguard!!! -

yea the slow down and speed up drives me nuts in media player. Also the clips that you can't fast foreward at all...argh I hate that! I'm trying to remain as compatable as possible to the current standards. Later i'm gonna convert it to dvd and see how the quality is on a tv. I don't have high expectations but i've been surprised before. -

An interesting FYI. I just loaded(yesterday) an xp machine. Loaded drivers and office only, no other programs. Did windows/office updates today. First I opened the exported avi, as figured there was no video. Next I opened the exported exe, took a few minutes to load, the video displayed as expected(I found it interesting that is was playing out of media player). I got to thinking, went back to the avi and that played normally out of media player. So the exe must just load the codec up then play the video. Are these two choice probably my best bet to give the the police? I still think there is some loss in quality vs what I see in view log, but I can't be sure on that. When I do that export from view log that is still watermarked isn't it? I do have watermark enabled on the system. -

G22, i'm dealing with an uncooperative gv600 and thinking about replacing it. how much are you looking for on that card?

Hi all. Trying to figure out what to do here. Purchased a business that had a security system setup. No idea who did the install. The computer is dying a slow death so I setup a new computer to transfer stuff to. From what I can see it's supposed to be a geovision gv600 card. Device manager indicated it was a GV604v3 card. I've sent a few emails to delers seeking a dongle for version 7 software with no response so i'm getting ticked. I don't have any of the original software to install on the new computer. After doing some research I suppose I should make sure this is a legit card. Then i'll know if I should be entitled to the version 7 software. Anyone help me on how I should procede to obtain working software for this? Thank you Randy

who said 7.0 with no dongle?
-
That is correct, on the chip there is a sticker that indicates "4 port sp" that's what led me to belive this. On the back of the card there is a sticker that sayes 600V3 Audio. On the old computer the drivers device manager used were"604v3"(if memory serves me correctly)!

Scott, THank you for the reply. I did find that version 6.05(i think it was) would work. Doing more reading i've found I have the sp chip that won't work with newer versions. I suppose what i'm trying to understand is what i'm entitled to. If this is a legit card shouldn't I be entitled to the dongle for version 7? Or dosn't it work that way? Thank you Randy
