My apologies if this topic has already been discussed, but I didn’t have any luck searching through older threads… I was looking to add some cameras to my system – I have an axis 215 PTZ that I used indoor, so I temporarily mounted it under an eave to test its outdoor ability. Before, my question, a quick review of that camera: It has a 12x optical zoom, and I was impressed that it could ‘almost’ pick up a license plate from a slow moving car leaving my office driveway. (The angle isn’t that good, or I think I would actually be able to get it). However, I could not adjust the camera to get a clean picture of a car moving down the road. The camera is about 100’ away from the road, and typical car speeds are 30-40MPH. I tried all sorts of settings (attempting to keep the IR cut filter on so I had color). But the cars are blurry, unless their moving less than 5 MPH. I was impressed with the night time settings. It took a while, but setting the shutter speed to 1/60s, max. exposure time (1/30, 1/20, 1/10s all worked) and the gain to 20 / 24 dB produces a pretty good image for night time. While you can’t make out too much detail (you can tell, SUV, Truck, car, etc.) – it beats the ‘something with headlights’ blurry image most low end cameras will yield. Anyway, does anyone have any experience with the Axis 215 – and could maybe give some pointers on the daytime settings? Maybe this camera just isn’t capable of clearly seeing moving cars. Does anyone have any hands on experience with a fixed dome or PTZ dome camera that can be setup for clearly seeing moving cars? It’ll be mounted in the eave of an office building that has climate control, so something like the Axis 215 (indoor outdoor lens), but doesn’t have to be in an outdoor enclosure. Thanks…

I have a couple of Axis 211M cameras. They're great, but their location is not easy to get to, let alone, holding a laptop with one hand and trying to set the focus with another. I thought I read on another thread that Mobotix cameras could be focused via the web GUI? Is this true - and what other high quality outdoor Megapixel cameras allow for adjusting the focus via your PC, vs a manual adjustment on the camera/lense itself? Thanks!
