Another way to do this is install wireless bridges between buildings. But to do this, you need to do bandwidth calculation based on # of cameras, resolution and frames per second.
-
Most likely your bandwidth is not metered. You pay a flat fee for the connection that you have. If that is the case, you are better off charging a flat fee every month. This subscription part is built into most merchant accounts. Set the user connection to time out after for an example 10 mins, that way you wont have people logged in for hours. This way you save the bandwidth, and everyone has a fast connection. If you can, get a dvr with h.264 compression and can work with Mac from a remote location. A lot of people now have mac and the last thing you want is spend the money on a nice solution and then find out its not mac compatible. If you need any help PM me.

Need the Final Part of the Puzzle
ChrisP replied to nifter53's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Dell Server must be a pretty penny. I hope Dell fixed the low battery error on their PERC cards. I was only asking about ip kvm because sometimes these bad boys become unresponsive and remote management on the software level doen't work. The last thing you want is to go to the data center at 11 o'clock at night. How many total cameras are you setting up on this unit? Last month I set up a dual 2.6 Xeon machine and instead of RAID 1 on standard drives I used SSD. -
Need advise on system and components. Please HELP!

My only experience with avermedia was when I bought a NV5000 card and I wanted to install PTZ camera with it. It was having issues with the RS232 interface. Their helpdesk had no idea how to resolve the issue. As far as AVtech is concerned, their products are ok but there is always a peky little issue in their design or features. -
Need the Final Part of the Puzzle

What brand of RAID card are you using? Is the server connected to IP KVM? I have used vivotek and acti cameras. Its been six months and they still dont need a reboot. I bought some cost effective "cheap" ip cameras and they had to be rebooted every 2 weeks. -
Need the Final Part of the Puzzle

On your server, make sure you add a decent graphics card. Also make sure your motherboard can accept a high performance graphics card. Is the exacq software compatble with 64 bit Windows? -
I have used ip megapixel cameras in my installs. These cameras have CMOS sensors. One thing I noticed, is with CMOS cameras there is a ghost effect at night. All the movement is blurred. It doesnt matter if the camera has ir cut filter. To fix this issue, use CCD based ip cameras or use a CMOS camera, increase the shutter speed and add a decent ir illuminator.

What ever you do get brand name cameras and have tech support for them. Panasonic cameras are very expensive. Make sure you have at least a quad intel processor.

Can you help me figure out my ideal setup?
ChrisP replied to asscore's topic in General Digital Discussion
I agree with soundy. Auto tracking PTZ cameras look nice on paper. But the cost of software and licensing for the PTZ will increase the budget significantly. -
I had a customer do this implementation 2 years ago. He used PTZ cameras. I wont suggest using PTZ. They are too expensive for your application. Defnitely go for a brand name like Geovision, Avermedia or NUUO. With them you can create multiple user names. Users should be able to view them from iphone as well.

I have installed the Nuuo 2040 for a client and here are my 2 cents. It has a rom based os, so it doesn't need any software updates, no anit-virus software. It has a nice intuitive user interface. Easy to use. Issue is you can only have 4 cameras max. Cant add more cameras. On the other hand, if you get a PC with a decent CPU and a graphics card and use the NUUO IP software you can add more cameras down the road.

WIRELESS IP CCTV
ChrisP replied to paulokello's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have done extensive work with wireless over the last 2 years. Ilk and the last guy are right. Lay fiber if you can. If you cant, go with a licensed band. I have used ubiquiti but there was too much interference. Engenius works nice. But if you can, try firetide. Whatever you do, always measure the bandwidth before deploying cameras and keep in some padding. If the total bandwidth used is 4mbps. Add 40% more to it. Best to have a dedicated p2p connection. If you are using megapixel cameras, make sure they are not streaking the moving images at night. With any megapixel\ip cameras, you might have to boot them once in a while. When selecting a recording device, make a list of what you want it to do. If its a windows based device it will need babysitting. A lot of times windows based systems crash. If you are installing more then 20 cameras you will need a server with dual quad core xenon processors. -
IP Systems and Remote Viewing
ChrisP replied to davidc304's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
David- What is the compression on the client dvrs. To get better stream quality I would suggest going with a dvr with H.264 compression. It will give you better video quality while taking lower bandwidth. Is your customer using a CMS to access the DVRs? -
Best switches for IP cameras
ChrisP replied to Michelangelo's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
SMC switches have worked nicely in big installs where you need more then 8 ports. If you are going for 8 or less ports stick with linksys by Cisco business series. They work prety well. -
Dynacolor Megapixel cameras
ChrisP replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have used the Dynacolor camera in my lab and it was ok. Nothing to rave about. At the megapixel resolution they only offer MJPEG resolution which was for me a turn off. But if you like their cameras alot you can checkout the Geovision 1.3 megapixel camera. Same deal. -
There are 2 ways you can go on this. You can use analog 5.8 cameras. Cost will be $500. They include a built in transmitter and a 420tvl camera. Camera can transmit upto 1000' away. You can also use ip cameras of your choice with out door access points. How many cameras are you looking to install? budget? Wireless distance?

I have called the department of buildings here in Queens and I am told I dont have to do any piping. These are low voltage cameras and there is plenty of exposed wiring from time warner cable and dishnetwork in this area. Client does not want to pay for piping so I guess I will use high quality outdoor cable and blend in with other cbales.
-
I have to do an outdoor wire install in NYC. I am going to be running outdoor, burial grade cat5 cable. Does the cable have to be piped if it is running 20' up on the wall? Lets say this is a nice area and there are no vandalism issues.

I have recently completed a project with 32 wireless cameras. If you can tell me what sort of design you are looking to do, I may be able to help.

Eyemax DV-9120 User Manual
ChrisP replied to jnoll's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I would suggest calling EyeMax. Tel (718)205-0606 -
I just set up a 32 camera ip version of the NUUO software. I would definitely suggest going with a strong Dual Core Quad or intel i7. That is one place where you cannot be cheap. Put the OS on drive C. Use drive e,f and G for storage. You should also use a Seagate perpendicular drive for storage. They are designed for hi level input output.

Why NOT to purchase NUUO products?
ChrisP replied to averagejoe's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
It definitely sounds like the security company dropped the ball. So if the sales person was not there, some one else from the security company should have been able to help you. I am sure you paid a pretty penny for the system. I have worked with NUUO cards and ip software and it works pretty good. -
Best of: Megapixelcamera day/night
ChrisP replied to monostump's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think the issue can be fixed by making the shutter speed faster. That can get rid of the blurriness but the image might get darker at night. Give it a try!
