    rack mounted power supply

I recommend the Stealth. I have 2 in my office and I think they are great.
  2. I am sure your old cameras will plug and play right into a new DVR and Matrix no problem. As for controlling the cameras you just need to match the protocols of the cameras and the controllers. Many cameras and controllers use a Pelco protocol or have numerous protocols already built into them. I agree that this engineer is most likely just trying to up-sell you. As for the cameras that are bad I would take each one down, create a short 10ft patch cable with video and power and plug it into a brand new transformer just to make sure the cameras are not still good. Make sure you get a transformer that has the right AMP's needs to power the PTZ. PTZ's take a lot of power and I have seen that power starts to drop off over the years in a powersource. You may just need to replace your power supplies. Or get more power out to the cameras. 10 bad cameras seems very suspicious to me. I would test them all off the system individually before you do anything radical
  3. You could mount a camera like this right on the wall and point the lens anywhere you want to view. It will flush mount right non the wall. It is weatherproof and vandal proof, with IR's. Just an option! http://www.cablegiant.com/Default.aspx?p_id=4&Product_id=783
  4. It sure does. If the runs are short and there are no IR's to power this works fine. The more strands you use the thicker the cable for power gets!

    wire recommendations

You could get away with 16/2 no problem. But they have 16/2 cable for power. Why use speaker cable? Is the system 24VAC or 12VDC? You can go a lot longer distance with 24VAC.

    indoor cameras

I think Ganz cameras are great. I have used them in the past and they have great support too. For $300 you can get a pretty nice True Day Night camera with out any IR's. If all the lights are off and it is total dark you should think about gettting one with IR's. Put it this way...if you can't see because it is is too dark than the camera won't see either. The IR's are made to kick on when the camera sensor tells it there is not enough light to see...

Here we go again!! Pelco Alternatives

I have used a number of Ganz Cameras and they are very solid. I also think they have great support and I have actually been up to thier facility a few times and went through some training. YOu should call them and tell them about your application. I am sure they would invite you over to thier office and show you the WDR cameras up close!
