I had this same problem a few months back.. It happened when I changed the ip just like you did. What I did was after it deletes the camera finally, go click scan cameras and then see the camera with the new ip address in the scan results window. Then add the camera and click ok and exit. Just make sure your not currently monitoring or you will have more problems. Another thing that seems to help is if you disconnect the camera physically from the network by removing the ethernet cable. Hope this helps..

For GV-Iview or Aview, the Previous CIF for iphone and ipad and Android was 320x240. Now it is 640x480 for both iphone & ipad, as well as for the android. For GV-EYE, iphone and ipad are 1280x960, using H.264

Id say the previous poster is right, you are exceeding the HD transfer rate and the frames are getting dropped. I had the same problem with a 1480 card in a hybrid DVR/NVR system and it was annoying. I also experienced this on a few IP cameras using the onboard microSD card but when I upgraded to a Class 10 card the problems went away.

Setup is very simple, you dont neccesarily need a POE switch, if your just going to have 1 or 2 cameras then buying a few POE injectors is probably cheaper. Then simply use the IP Device Utility and it will scan your network and find the camera(s). From there you can change the IP address, etc. I have a 520 installed indoors in a retail makeup store and its wall mounted. If you are interested id be happy to PM you the login info for the guest account and you can look at it and get a idea of things. I would not be concerned about outdoor mounting as long as you buy the outdoor version of the 520. Thats why they offer 2 versions, indoor/outdoor. Yes you can remote live view as well as play back recordings remotely and on your LAN but there are some limitations. 1) You cannot access the 520 from a mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android, etc) since the 520 does not dual stream and is a 5 megapixel camera. The GV-iView and GV-Eye apps only support 2 megapixel, so you will get a error message saying "Resolution not supported". The only workaround to this is if you are running the GV NVR software along with the 520 and have the webserver configured for remote access. Even then your resolution is limited to 320x240 and the picture quality is not very good. 2) For Live view and playback there are a few options: Installing software on the local or remote machine you wish to use to access the camera. The app you will need for live view is called DMMultiview, but there is no mac support. For remote playback the app is called Remote Viewlog. It too is windows only, no mac version. OR You can also access the camera directly through any web browser for live view and remote playback but some options (such as motion detection) will be missing from the configuration page if you are not using Internet Explorer and you will not be able to play anything back unless you install Remote Viewlog on the PC your accessing the camera remotely from. And YES, you can configure the recycle threshold for overwriting older files in both the GV-DVR/NVR software as well as directly through the web interface of the camera itself if your using the onboard storage with a MicroSD card. And NO, you cannot record to both simutaneously, and be aware there is no support to record directly from the camera to a NAS without first having a PC with the GV-NVR software running, but you can set it up so you can record to the NAS through the GV-NVR software running on a PC and if the connection is ever lost from the camera to the PC then the camera will record to the onboard microSD card until the connection is restored. There is a utility called GV-Sync that you can set to run at any interval to check the onboard storage of the camera and if it finds files it copies them to the NAS (or whever you like) on the PC running the GV-NVR software. You can also just record directly to the microSD card in the camera itself, which negates any requirement for a PC running the NVR software and is much simpler. A better option for you would maybe be to just forget having a NAS and PC running the GV-NVR software all together and simply just buy a microSD card for the 520 and record directly to it. The only downfall to this is that you cannot get some of the advanced features that are supported with the GV-NVR software (counter/intrusion triggering, etc) but you can still access it from any method I mentioned above. Yes, the audio recording/microphone feature works fine on the 520, although ive never used the microphone feature, just the audio recording feature. Hope this helps,

If you are currently monitoring any cameras installed, the set location is greyed out. You need to stop all monitoring and then the set location will no longer be greyed out. (and then start monitoring again)

Just upgraded to a iphone5 and it works fine for me as well. I have a hybrid system and using GV-iView, havent tried the ip only GV-Eye but it worked on both my old iphone4 and my ipad2.

Maybe next release we get Sandy Bridge GPU decoding!

I haven't tried what your suggesting, but if you end up trying it with a short dvi cable and it works then I would assume it would work with a longer one. Either way, post your results and let us know, I'm curious as well. I have a few 25 or 30' DVI cables as well as DVI powered repeaters for sale if you are interested, they were used in a nightclub I used to own and no longer need them.

I think your a little confused. I have customers with 200 cameras on a network with about 50 of them Megapixel and bandwidth is about 350Mbps which is not a problem for a gigabit network. If your cameras stream at 5Mbps you could have well over 100 cameras on your network without any issues and there are ways to add even more capacity to a 1Gb network if you team connections. Also 10Gb networks are here and the price is dropping everyday. My point is if you know how to design a network bandwidth isn't a problem. As for your Apple TV that comes down to your wireless network and there is a lot more to go wrong with them. If you have a G router you only have 25Mbps of usable bandwidth that you share with your other devices. There are better wireless APs that can do 300Mps using 2.4/5Mhz and can handle multiple HD streams if designed properly. Hmmm.. whats the bit depth of these IP cameras? ANd when your referring to watching 50 IP cameras at once, your talking about in the secondary stream, which is probably about 704x480 or so correct? I guess the quality of the IP cams isn't what I thought it was, but I just ordered a few 3mp so I guess ill see for myself.

You just answered your own question: with IP cameras, you don't need the hardware card. Are you saying that I could purchase, for instance, 4 Geo IP camera's only, and then provide a server and a network switch and that is all I need? I don't need a Geovision card to be able to run the latest version of the Geo software on a new server? Just to try to clarify a bit, with IP cams you don't need geovision at all, there is plenty of 3rd party software that will support IP cameras. If you like the geovision software, then by all means use it, just make sure that your ip cams are compatible with the geovision software (they provide a list of supported 3rd party IP cams). If you buy Geovision IP cameras, you don't need any additional licensing. If you buy 3rd party IP cams and want to use the Geovision NVR or DVR software, you need to buy a license. Lastly, you don't need a server at all, but a good stand alone pc with fast hard drives and a good processor is crucial with IP cameras, and if possible run it on its own network to keep traffic down on the LAN. Also remember you will need to power those cameras, so you might as well buy a POE (power over ethernet) switch so you only need to have one cat 5 run to each IP cam (assuming they are POE compatible, which all the good ones are). Or you could do it the hard way and run power to each IP camera separately if you don't want to buy a POE switch (a good 10 port POE switch is around $400, cisco makes a nice one, as does d-link.) You will also see that most IP cameras dual stream, meaning what you see on your screen is a lower resolution than what it records to the hard drive at. The reason for this is that it only takes 3 or 4 IP cameras (even at 1.3 mp) and your network will be near capacity. Ive never tried it, but I am pretty sure trying to stream 8 or more IP cameras at 1920x1080 is going to bring your network down to its knees. In the future I'm assuming we will see many more IP cams that are gigabit compatible (most are 10/100 right now) I know the cisco switch is a gigabit switch, so maybe with a gigabit full duplex connection between the PC and the switch and then 100mb connections from the switch to each camera would be sufficient but like I said earlier, I highly doubt it will stream 8 IP cams at 1920x1080. Hell, apple tv is only 720P and it can barely do that wirelessly and its only one stream. And if you do have a widescreen , etc, like Rory said, you have options in the 8.x Geovision software to not only go to higher resolutions, but also to adjust picture to the screen format (16:9, 16:10, 4x3, etc)

Version 8.5, 1480 card (the original one, not the 1480A), 16 cameras installed. 1) What does the limit port feature do exactly? (find under system configure, startup, general) It says in the manual it gives more frame rates to the working cameras but if Im correct I thought the software did this automatically when you had less than the max cameras installed? (e.g., if the 1480 card has 16 cameras set at D1 (704x480) resolution the frame rate would be 15fps, if you had 8 cameras at D1 (704x480) resolution then the frame rate would be 30fps.) If I'm correct and the software does allocate frame rates to the working cameras automatically then what is the purpose of the limit port feature? Connie would be better off on the couch collecting unemployment. That way she wouldn't be wasting peoples time and could let someone competent assume her position running the live help desk. This isn't about one card, it applies to EVERY card Geovsion makes, it's a question that pertain's to the 8.5 software, which CONNIE should be at least familiar with. Instead she can't even find the menu context items, let alone tell me what it does. And she continues to give me the side step and bypassing my questions. If thats the best employee's geovision can find then god help that company.

to answer the OP's original question.. because I think he misunderstood the answer... you can get 1080p all you want with a IP cam and a capture card together, the options for the resolution in the geovision software only apply to the ANALOG cameras connected to the card. The IP camera gets its own window and shows whatever resolution the IP camera is set to. (at least I think this is how it works, I don't have any IP cameras installed)

At my wits end, wondering if anyone can offer some advice. Bought this 1480 card new (its a legit card) in 2005 and ran perfectly up until I closed my business in 2008. I *think* I had ver 7.x when It was up and running. Last month I decided to sell it to a friend so I used a old server i had lying around and put the card in. I Installed xp 64 bit (since 8.3.4 supports 64 bit) and it would not load the drivers. I then installed win 7 64 bit and it still wouldnt load the drivers. I then installed win 7 32 bit and it loaded the drivers fine. I did some research and read that you need firmware 3.x to run a 64 bit OS? Is this correct? When I finally did load the 32 bit drivers in win 7 I noticed it updated my firmware from 1.53 to 1.57 (or something like that, im not positive) Is this why I cant load any 64 bit drivers???? Now, for my actual problem, after installing win7 32 bit and loading the 8.3.4 drivers and software, I got everything up and running but when I connect a camera (any channel) all I get is a bunch of wavy lines in different colors. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? I tried different cameras, I tried different channels, I tried 1, 2, 3 & 4 cameras at once, and the only thing I noticed was that as I attached more cameras, the moving horizontal lines got finer and more of them as I connected more cameras. I seriously doubt the card is bad, I'm thinking its either one of 2 things. 1) 8.x is not compatible with this card and firmware 1.57 and I need to go back to 7.x (in this case, where do I find the latest 7.x software?) or 2) The machine is causing the problems. Its a AMD dual opteron dual core (2 seperate processors that are also dual cores on the motherboard) Its got 8 gigs ram. I read a thread that someone described a similar problem as mine but when they disabled hyperthreading in the bios (it was a intel cpu) the problem was fixed and the video was fine. Unfortunately for me, I cant disable the second processor or the dual core of a single processor, but what I did try was I set the affinity for the .exe file to use one core on one processor only. This didnt seem to change anything and the problem was the same...but maybe the geovision software needs to start up in single mode instead of setting the affinity after its been opened? As far as I know, you cant set the affinity for the program until AFTER you start it and it loads in memory. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know. All comments welcome. thanks!

Thanks for the offer. I will let you know if I end up needing it. From what ive been reading ALL 1480 cards support the 8.x software, and DONT need a dongle, regardless of the age of the card or the firmware on it. If this is true then obviously I need to take a look at the hardware end of things instead of blaming the card or software. I will try the card in another machine and post my results..

hmmm... interesting info... and yes, I checked the output and its set to NTSC like is should be. The motherboard chipset is nvidia 2200 pro chipset, all drivers current. Video card is a geoforce 7800 GTX. I just found a tool called 8.0 version checking tool. Im going to send it to the guy (i live out of town) and have him run it to see what it comes back with. Im assuming that tool is to check what software versions the hardware installed will support? Also, I am guessing its not possible to upgrade 1.x firmware to 3.x firmware since when I ran the driver install from 8.3.4 it only upgraded my firmware from 1.x to 1.x. Maybe its true you need 3.x firmware for the 8.x software? And yes, I found a way on the ezcctv site to download a full version of 6.05 and then a upgrade to 7.05 and then a 7.05 to 7.07 patch. Its a long process but better than nothing I guess.

I have a 1480, i know the max fps is 480 which is 30 at 320x240 if using all 16 cameras. What I want to know is what is the maximum number of cameras i can run if I want near d1 quality? ex, 8 @ 704x576. I guess my main question is I want the best quality and am willing to sacrafice some cameras for it with this card. I ran the card for 2 years at my business, with all 16 cameras, and while the quality was ok, it wasnt spectacular. My next question is what is the advantage to IP cameras? You still need to put power to them *although i do see some PoE cameras) and you still need to run a ethernet run to them, so what exactly is the advantage to them? From reading specs, the quality is on par or even below some analog cameras, and the price is higher than analog cameras as well. I can see where if you needed 32 cameras or something it might be handy since you have 254 ip address's, but is that the ony advantage? lastly, is Geovision ever going to support 64 bit os's? It seems sillly to require such a strong cpu/pc and then limit it to a 32 bit os where the max ram you can use is 3 gigs.

few problems I see.. As far as I know, you can only put one geovision card per computer. I have 2 1480's and have them in 2 seperate computers. These are the pci cards. Maybe with the pci express cards you can put 2 in one computer? Upon further reading, i see you can put 2 2004 or 2008 cards (4 port and 8 port) into one pc. These cards actually have hardware encoding on them as well as d1 quality. Of course, if you want a 16 cam card, you can buy a single 1480 card if your willing to live with 16 cams at 480fps (30fps @ 320x240) second, geovision states in their product info that the cards will not work in ati or via chipset motherboards (not a big deal) , but they also state that windows 64 bit os support is NOT compatible. That is a problem and why im on this forum at the moment. I wanted to see if anyone was running vista or xp 64 bit. So, in your case, the 4 gigs ram is a waste since 32 bit os's can only support up to 3 gigs of ram.

Did you ever figure this out? im curious if it was a signal problem due to the cable length or a connector problem, or just a bad camera.

I upgraded to 8.1 from 8.02 and now when I start the log viewer I cant speed up/down the video. It plays at 1x only. I can still zoom + or - but the speed up and down arrows are greyed out. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks Geoff

I actually saw that option when I was hunting around in the playback settings but didnt think thats what that was for. lol, guess I should have tried it first. Anyway, thx alot for the help. I had to go through video tonight for the police and it sucked having to drag the slider through the logs.

A few questions, as ive been lurking in here a few weeks and havent seen anything on this... I recently bought a nightclub and it had a old gv-800 that they were using with a 16 camera system. I realized that the gv-800 rated at 120fps went down to 7.5 with all 16 cams so I went and bought a new gv-1480, which puts me back at 30fps with all 16 cams. I also upgraded some of the cameras (all were old b/w and 1 color ptz) to some hi res b/w I got from supercircuits. Heres my questions.. 1) Im extremely dissapointed with these b/w cameras. I bought them with auto-iris for the inside cams and I dont know if they sold me the wrong lens's or if its some other problem, but I can barely get a focused picture, and even then only the center of the picture is in focus, the rest is blurry. The part numbers on the auto-iris lens are for video driven cameras but when I switch the camera from dc to video driven the screen gets bright white and I lose the picture. Any idea whats wrong? 2) I had some fixed lens manual iris lens's from the older cameras that I put on my new cameras but the picture still looks like crap to me. I mean, its hard to describe the quality of the picture, but either Im too picky or I just expect more from a video system. Im looking at these pictures in daylight with plenty of light, so its not a low light issue. the picture is pretty clear all the way through, but still not perfect to me. Any suggestions? I have geovision 7.02 software and have the recording quality at 4, geo mpg compression and window size at 720x480 de-interlaced. (display and record). My processor utilization is about 45 percent. ati 9800 vid card, 2 gigs ram, 3.2 gig processor, 800mhz fsb. Pc runs perfect. (i was formerly a computer network engineer before the nightclub purchase So im fairly confident its not a pc issue). I feel comfortable with the software, and have been playing with it alot. I followed Rory's advice from a previous post and set sat and hue to 0 for the b/w cameras, but it didnt seem to do anything. Is the problem the cameras? Cheap chinese junk? Or the lens? or both? Im thinking of sending all the supercircuit stuff back and buying better cameras, but before I did that I was curious.. 2) i was told not to go color, even for the outside cameras, but the outside is lit well, and I was considering a couple of pelco spectra III se PTZ's for the north and west corners of the building, and then going with either some toshiba ik-540a (b&w hi res cam) or some extreme ex-26 (b&w infrared) and/or some toshiba ik-64wda's. (color/b&w) I think I can get away with using the color toshibas in the entryway of the club as well as the exit area, and even outside for a few shots but im not sure if they auto change to b/w when the light gets low or you have to manually set them by a timer or some other method. Does anyone have experience with these cameras and can shed some input? 3) I know toshiba mentions a signal to noise ratio that is benificial to pc based digital recorders as a selling point. Does it really matter what camera you use between a vhs type recorder and a pc? There was a big blurb on the toshiba site when I was reading up on the ik-64wda about how important the signal to noise ratio is when using a digital recorder. Is this true or just marketing? 4) lastly, regarding the web based remote viewer, I have a 768k up stream out of my geovision machine to the internet. When I try to look at the 16 cam shot with the web viewer, it only shows some of the cam feeds. Is there a way to specify what you want the quality and pic size to be when viewing remotely from the web application? I cant seem to find it and when I click around on camera size from the web application is says 320x320 but its greyed out and im unable to change it. Any ideas whats going on there?
