American Dynamics ADCDH3895CN and Panasonic WV-CF294
Tailbone215 replied to gunthonungo's topic in Security Cameras
I like the ADCDH3895CN and find it a decent performer. A couple things you should be aware of about it. If you buy this camera make sure you are not buying old stock as the newer version has the "New and Improved 3-Axis Gimbal", which is really a joy to use over the older style. Also, this is not a true Day/Night camera that uses an IR cut filter. That in itself shouldn't be a deal breaker, but it isn't IR sensitive. The low-light performance is good for the price, but if you need better night performance you will be paying more for better performance. For the price this cam is a real performer and should work nicely. -
Tips for installing cameras on business UHF/VHF radio tower?
Tailbone215 replied to Tailbone215's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks Mike. I really appreciate the advice. This is good news. I will be adding a run of Liquid-Tight flexible conduit to pull my cabling through so this will add another layer of protection against RF as the conduit is made of corrugated metal inner jacket, which will be grounded. This will add more expense, but should yield a more solid installation. I was planning on CAT-5e so that I could stay totally digital. Going coax will drop me back to analog. I have to think about this some more. Thanks again for the tips. -
Some good choices for IP66 heated dome enclosures?

Sir, I am neither bored or think I'm a CCTV expert. In fact, I came here to learn from this wonderful community of experts and novices such as myself. I do try to contribute from the limited knowledge that I do have. Again, I have asked you to become a contributing member without SPAMMING your products. Contribute by asking questions or offering advise to others in your field of expertise. Set up your sig file with the information about your company's site and your message will get out with every helpful post you post to others. By doing this you will have an easier time getting people to visit your site and not be look on as a SPAMMER. My rule is I never visit a SPAMMER'S site even if it would benefit me. I wouldn't tip a waiter for taking a dump on the dinner table nor will I give SPAMMERS a break for taking a dump in my community. Good luck and please think about contributing in a positive manner. -
Hikvision IP cameras

Mike is great person to deal with and is very helpful. I found him to be very honest when it comes to the products he sells. He had a few items I am interested in and was very straightforward and forthcoming with the pros and cons of each of the products he sells. In my book that is the way to do business even if he knows it might not generate a sale. I will be dealing with him much more in the future. Thanks for the tip. -

Good points you bring up. I'm to the point, learning the hard way, that sticking with name brand and more costly hardware (Bosch, Pelco, Panasonic,etc..) is probably a more cost effective way to get the job done. I've paid my dues with trial and error with the Asian crap hardware that lacks performance and spent productivity senselessly enough to make the extra money spent on good hardware a dirt cheap bargain. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there is great no-name Asian hardware out there, but the odds equate to finding a pearl in a septic tank. -

Because he will simply annoy people even more with his SPAM and rightfully and hopefully get blocked from posting! Please don't get him started on that again. A search of his past postings will reveal his contributions and motives. -
Hikvision IP cameras

That's just it, they didn't answer numerous requests to replace the cable even if I have to pay for it. Yes, I did offer to buy it from them even though the card is in warranty. The card is only a few months old and works perfectly. I really like it. I had a few growing pains that I had to iron out with the other hardware, but that's to be expected. I'm sure they are getting my e-mail as they did answer one question about their software. Maybe they are only allowing one question per card? The bottom line for me is even if the item is out of warranty, replacement parts should always be made available for a period of time at a nominal fee. At least the cable was easily repaired as it was just an open shield on one of the ports. The shield shares a common ground on one of the pins and I was able to make continuity. All is good now. It would be nice to be able to know that I could buy a cable should I want to. May take on this is anyone can sell you a product, it's the after sales support that separates good manufacturers from fly-by-night manufacturer. There's too much choice out here to be locked into thinking one has to kiss a manufacturer's collective asses. Competition is always nice and I'm confident that it won't be hard to find a manufacturer that still honors their warranty. [/img] -
Hikvision IP cameras
Tailbone215 replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hikvision's poor tech/customer support is a deal breaker for me!! I can't speak for the quality of their IP cameras, but I am pleased with the quality of their DVR cards. That being said, I would have to say that their tech/customer support sucks at best. I have/had a dead port on one of the octopus cables that came with the card. Fortunately it was an easy fix as Hikvision refused to answer repeated request to purchase a new cable from them. While I'm pleased with the quality of the DVR card, I simply refuse to buy from or support a company that neglects customer support issues. Having a company that stands behind their product and offers easy access to repair and/or replacement parts is paramount to me. If the powers to be at Hikvision feel it is more important to lose repeated purchases from potential customers because they feel it is beneath them to sell a $5 cable so be it. I will now avoid Hikvision products in the future and do my best to inform potential buyers to thread carefully when contemplating buying them. I'm done with Hikvision. -
Strange question of the day: Why coax cable?
Tailbone215 replied to Jeroen1000's topic in Security Cameras
It's easier to just use UTP/Baluns for your analog installations. -
My good friend....Dopal. Correct again. ..don't know what I'd do without you guys.. Thanks for the contaact info as well!! I agree! Thanks again for all your help. I bought the cable but it wasn't exactly the right pinout so it won't work. It was definitely worth the chance as the price was right. I can't thank you enough for all your help.

No argument from me about the look of the eyes. I guess it comes down to accepting the nature of the beast. If I were looking for that Pulitzer prize winning picture I would pull out the old Nikon and select one of many very expensive lenses I own. Trust me, it was a rude awakening for me looking at a CCTV image and comparing it to what my Nikon can do. I'm in it for its designed purpose, security. That said, I've accepted the rather lacklustre image quality of even megapixal cams compared to what pro video/still cameras can produce. Also, it is a learning experience for all of us. Especially when trying to decipher crap specifications and outright lies some manufactures claim about their products. I do feel your frustration if that is any consolation.

I'm not sure what's to dislike about IR lighting? Properly implemented and preferably not emitted from the cam is going to be the best solution. Finding decent emitters, that's the challenge.

Stuck with $2,000 worth of PAL Cameras

Sounds like a plan, at least till the customer wants to add more cams. They'll be searching for more PALs. -

Tailbone215 replied to nocturnal59's topic in Security Cameras
I would sincerely hope that you won't pass your misfortune on and dump these on unsuspecting customers without disclosing the fact that they are PAL. I wouldn't want to be that customer who found out the hard way if another installer did an upgrade to the system. My take on all of this is hold the distributor responsible. Probably not much you can do. If it were an honest mistake you would be getting the problem resolved quickly without excuses. Either way, you're probably not going to be doing business with this company again, they don't care. Good luck. -

Let me guess Is this "Terahertz " Camera ? I know I would love to get a look under the hood of one of these cams. I'm guessing the sound of silence to my last question would indicate there's some older borrowed and probably obsolete technology involved here. I'm still curious of who makes the CCD and what model number it is so we can get concrete evidence of what's happening here. If it manufactured by a reputable company it shouldn't be that hard to get a copy of the white paper. Oh well. -

No surprise here. You just got scammed! This is the supplier's mistake and hold them accountable. Hopefully you used a payment method that will allow you to get your money back. If you paid with a credit card you can just call your cc company and do a chargeback. Most bank payments are also able to be stopped. Check with your bank. If all else fails throw them up on eBay and take the loss or throw them in the trash and move on with your life. NEVER BUY FROM AN UNAUTHORIZED RESELLER!!!!! -

Thanks. Do you manufacture your sensors in house or do you buy third party such as Sony? If you are using third party CCDs what is the model number of the chip? I'm assuming you are using an ICR, is this correct? Are you using your own customized signal processing? -

I must say that I really like the machined cases. That doesn't mean the cameras are what is claimed. The first clue of an IR emitter is the visibiity range. -

Tailbone215 replied to thunderbiz's topic in Security Cameras
This blows his claim of his sensor magically pulling light out of the air. I agree that this wavelength is still IR, definitely out of visible range for most humans. I'm not sure what military application his camera would hold as the problem comes in if it emits IR it will definitely be a beacon for a novice sniper. His claims aren't holding water and I'm done with him. -

Huh? Nobody is picking on him because he's from China. I have a few good Chinese friends so that argument don't work with me. I'm just holding his feet to the fire so he can prove his claims and prove me wrong with my gut feeling of him SPAMMING his wares. -

In America educated doesn't mean we have a God given right to steal intellectual property, manufacture poisoned baby formula and drywall, kill people's pets with poisoned pet food, exploited our people with slave wages, flood American shores with counterfeit goods that are cheaply built and unreliable merchandise that is unsafe. Educated people don't SPAM or try to trick people into believing they have a product so good that it is unbelievable without offering supporting evidence. Since this is your product the burden is on you to prove you have a working product and not another piece of crap with overinflated specifications. The "When there is no visible light, still the unvisible light is there." sounds more like a sales pitch than a technical answer. Like I said earlier, you have light from UV to IR, what is the wavelength of light your sensor is optimized for maximum sensitivity? S/N ratio? Just for the record, I have nothing against you, I just have a dislike for SPAMMERS that seek out self enrichment without giving back to the community. I hope I'm wrong about my gut feeling of you being a SPAMMER. This is a great forum that benefits from people sharing knowledge without looking for monetary gain, please keep it that way. -

As for my education, I'm functionally illiterate and use my toes like an abacus. You? As for your dilemma. You come in here making wildass claims without giving any technical details to the point of being evasive. Until I see pics of the camera and something more concrete technically I will label this as SPAM. You're not pioneering something in quantum physics so there's no need for the secrecy, spill the beans. -
My guess is it came out of an early 90s era video conference terminal that the US government and military used. I have a similar no-name 12V camera that I salvaged from a terminal years back. Basically it is crap and not worth playing with unless you are bored. This will give the same resolution as a $19 board camera.

Well, HD, to me is more an emergency type store that will get your butt out of a bind when the normal distributors and either closed or too far away from the job site. I don't think many people would expect HD to have specialty products as they won't move from the shelves as quickly as the high demand items. That said, I wouldn't criticize HD for not carrying VFDs, PLCs, RS485/RS232 converters, UTP baluns, or any type of three phase equipment that is found in industrial applications.. Trust me, after buying a new toilet seat from HD and finding a used one covered with piss crystals in the box, I have lost all respect for them.

It's smelling more and more like spam to me. Think about it, if its light you have a limited spectrum of UV to IR and everything visible in between. Well, you have x-ray and RF, but I don't think a cheapy camera/reciever will be using that technology nor will it be allowed for sale without government certification. So, logically, there's an emitter of light somewhere that he's not revealing to us. I for one would never put any credibility in any published specifications by these Asian electronics makers. We have already seen all the crap cameras flooding out shores that have wild-ass claims and specs. On a good note, he did make his nickle on the click-through as I did visit his site.
