  1. Let me put it simply. MOst DVR, including AVERMEDIA (I've sold a no. of it) does not format the Harddisk Drive in FAT32/NTFS/FAT16, etc. They format it in their own propietry format. That means when u connect it to windows, it'll appear as a unformated disk, which you can't read in windows. SOME DVR comes with their software for you to read the data off the harddisk when connected vie IDE/SATA/USB. As i said.. SOME DVR comes with it, so not ALL dvr comes with it. SO you gotta check if your DVR comes with software to do that. AVERMEDIA EB1004BAK comes with it, i got some other DVR that comes with it as well. AVTech DVR doesn't, that means when u plug out the harddisk drive, it's unreadable except by another identical machine. That brings up another important point. Some DVR auto format a new harddisk when you plug it in. It's good, and dangerous at the same time. Good in terms that it's easy for end user to install a new harddisk. It's dangerous coz sometimes if you plug in a harddisk with recorded data, but the DVR thought it's a new harddisk, or the DVR's model no./firmware is different, it'll just auto format it, and wipe away important recorded data on it. I know AVTech's DVR does that. Coz some cust upgraded from old machine to new machine, and they reuse the harddisk without thinking it through, and the old data got wipe away once the harddisk is plug into the new dvr without any prompting.

    AVTECH Documentation

Can anyone tell me, which model is the AVC760 is inside that manual ? Model 1/2/3/4/5 ??? They never specific properly. There's 2 harddisk matrix, each with very different recording time. Also, things to take note, AVC760 is not a true MPEG4 recorder. It only records at MPEG4 at CIF. When you record at FRAME, it's baically recording at MJPEG.

Yes. I've tried it. Works. But u can't find anything on the manual though.

What type OS for DVR you used?

That's preceisely what i meant. OS doesn't matter in stability that much. The whole issues is on the DVR itself. But funny though... u meant u won the project without specifying what equipments u are using ??

What type OS for DVR you used?

Actually, why u care ? For standalone DVR, their sole purpose is to function as DVR. Regardless of what is their backend os, you are not suppose to and should be fooling with the OS. They are not meant for u to put in another ftp server, another web server, or run some sub routines, etc. You should just compare on the features and functionality alone, not on the OS. RTOS, LINUXS, EMBEDDED WINDOWS, as long as they never test their system throughly, all are subjected to error.
  6. I think what happens' u have not configure your network properly. Can u access from lan environment using the web browser ? Do you have java installed properly ? etc. Coz from what i know, even their first firmware for the dvr have the web browser client inbuilt already. So you don't have to upgrade firmware for that. IMHO, unless there's something wrong with the DVR, or some new features that you need that the new firmware has.... else dun go play ard with firmware.

    avc760 gprs client

Actually u are wrong. They used all the same webserver module for recent dvrs. As far as i know... all support. But you'll need JAVA MIDS2.

help -- AVC760 DVR connect to Alarm system

Think you'll have to be more specific. Do you mean connecting your alarm system to AVC760 as a mean to trigger the recording ? Or Connecting the AVC760 to your alarm system to trigger alarm ? IMHO, it's better to seperate the 2 system. You either connect your alarm output to the sensor input of the AVC760 or the the AVC760 output to the sensor input of your alarm. AVC760 can set to trigger alarm during 1. Motion 2. Video Loss. So unless these are the events you want to sound your alarm, no point connecting them together. The motion are based on Video Motion. So there's a high percentage of false alarm due to changing image contrast, etc. If you want to connect your alarm system to trigger AVC760, unless your alarm goes off a dozen time a day (which i think shouldn't happen), your AVC760 won't be recording a lot of things. UNLESS... by "Alarm" you are refering to sensors input. In that case, refer to the manual for the wiring diagram.
  9. Press [sTOP] first, then try the menu or playback button. For some machine, u gotta press it fast [sTOP]-[MENU] before the motion detection engine kicks in and start recording again. Yes, what u have most likely is a simplex machine. U cannot do record and playback at the same time. I won't call it a problem. It's just the specs and design of the machine. I mean u can't go buy a handphone without 3G connection and then come complain that it doesn't have 3G.
  10. There are differences. Had used 1 in abt 300m, sucks. Lots of interferrence. Tried the same brand, active one, still the same. Changed to another brand and model, works perfectly. So they are not all the same.
  11. Assuming you are really talking about POE, no it shouldn't. The devices communitcate before it dumps the full voltage. Many many put 12vdc on the unused pairs, thats not POE and that will fry basically any network device connected to it. I know this's a bit irrelevent in this thread... but anyone know of cheap equipents that can pump 12VDC through coax for cameras ? I know of VDS equipments, but those are too expensive for the application i have in mind.

    IP Camera Help Required

Haa..... First I would need to know... What's your budget ? If you get those better brands, e.g. pana, axis, etc, u can get third party software recorder that'll works with them. You can try out LuxRiot DVR 1.2.22. I tested it, works quite well with Axis IP Cam.
  13. Totally wrong. Most IP Cameras when view over IE, relys on ActiveX on IE to connect and view the cameras. It'll only work on IE with Windows. Not MAC. Some I know, uses Java Applet. This supposely would work in both WinTEl and Mac. You can try AVTech's DVR with CCTV Cameras. It uses Applet for the Browser viewing. Doesn't work with Safari on Mac (not too sure why), but work with firefox on Mac. Customer tried and told me. I dun use Mac.
  14. What I am more interested to know is.... does 1000base-T support POE ? What I know of most equipments are, since 100base-T does not utilised all the 8 wire in the cat5 cable, they utlised the unused cables to send power over to the equipments. From what I know, 1000base-T uses all 8 wires in the cables for information. So will an Gigabyte switch get damage if u utilised a POE device on it since it is utlising all 8 cables, and the POE device is also pumping power through the now used wire into your Gigabyte Switch ?
  15. Most ppl think network straight cables are just crimping the cables in their respective color on both side. e.g. OrangeWhite, Orange, GreenWhite, Green, BlueWhite, Blue, Brown White, Brown. In actual fact, you'll have to twist the cable. i.e. OrangeWhite, Orange, GreenWhite, BLUE, BLUEWHITE, GREEN, BrownWhite, Brown. Some contractors I worked with doesn't know this, they just crimp it in the same order. For short distance, it'll work. Even simple cable tester will not identify the problem as the wire are connected properly. But for long distance, interference start to play a large factor, and the transmission of the network signal will not clear. The way the wire are twisted and used play a very important part in eliminating these external interference. So most likely your prob is the original guy who did ur cabling just crimp it wrongly. For more information, http://www.zytrax.com/tech/layer_1/cables/tech_lan.htm
  16. Hmm... if your network method works... isn't it damm insecure then.... ???
  17. Sometimes it's your local computer's firewall blocking. Sometimes it's the router firewall blocking. Without going into how to do a trace and determine the problem, try changing the port to some uncommon ports, or common ports. It'll solve the problem without having to go into very techical details. Normally, dun use the common port, e.g. 80, 8080, etc. Hacker scan these ports first, and phone like nokia block access to these ports. So certain dvr with phone apps cannot connect to the dvr when u configure dvr using these ports.

    DVR Audio

Does it really matter ? Most system i know... when u do playback for recording at 4fps, they dun play 4fps recorded file at 30fps. They still play at 4fps. So ur audio should syn. They only play at 30fps if u fast forward it, in that case, most system will mute the audio.
  19. Not going to debate your other pts, but think what u say about warranty is not quite valid. It depends on each market and industry standard for warranty. Long warranty doesn't mean it is better product as well. Over here, seagate harddisk give 5 years warranty, hitachi, maxtor, wd give 3. I've done more seagate harddisk replacement than other brand. So longer warranty = better products ? I begged to differ. Nowadays, most product give just 1 year warranty. E.g. all your electronics basically give just 1 yr, sony, panasonic, toshiba, etc. So are they render as poor quality ? It depends on the local market and industry practise. Not so much on the quality of product. E.g.Some product give 3 years warranty, but basically is abt 3-5 times more expensive than those tat give 1 year warranty. Does it make them a better product ? Basically, i would like to think, the cost of replacement/repaired had been factored into the price already. Sometimes.. if it's not hard to replace.. it's better to get those 1 year warranty devices at 1/3 or 1/5 the price of those 3 years warranty one.. and get them replaced every year or so. Even good quality equipments come with wear and tear. Good cameras will get dirty, oily, greasly, dusty. Same as good quality DVRs, harddisk. Replacing them at 1/3 the cost every year before the MTBF IMHO, is better than getting something 3-5 times the price and keep them there for 5 years. Electronics nowadays... just really are not build to last.
  20. The batt's is MS621 Rechargable Litium Batt. But appearently, it's not recharging that well after a year or 2.
  21. Anyone know how to do it ? Appearently their internal litium batt is soldered to the board. You can't just take it out and change. And I've encouter at least 5-6 sets over the past couple of months , usage from 8-2 yrs plus with the batt flat. When the main power is switch off, the DVR loss it's timing. And start recording from 1/1/2000, and it corrupt all the recorded data. You will not be able to jump to a certain date/time using the search. U'll still be able to do vie viewing in rewind mode till u reach that date/time. That'll take days if u are trying to go back 2-3 weeks in 32X rewind mode. And basically u'll have to send the set back to get the board replace once the batt ran out. From what i can see, the batt can take and replace by unsoldering, but it'll void the warranty of the DVR.

AVTECH DVR - Can someone offer a demo?

I install this system a lot as well. It's cheap, value for money, and due to the fact it's cheap, it's easy to sell. But think the main reason why u can't find any demo, is because once u see the internet demo, u'll choose some other DVR. IMHO, the network feature SUCKS big time. But if u are only haveing a SINGLE user, without anyone viewing on the DVR's Monitor, and U are only interested in seeing LIVE feed, it'll do. Anything more, consider other DVRs. If u had use VNC/PC Anywhere before, imagine a DVR with VNC/PC Anywhere server installed. It'll feed the monitor output feed to u, and then relay your control back to the dvr. That means over internet, when u press a button, u gotta wait for ur pc to send the command over the net to the DVR, and then wait for the screen to change on the DVR monitor side, and then for it to relay the screen back to u. Now, imagine you have to do searching, first u press the search button on the web client, u wait for the search screen to come up on the monitor side and get send to u over the web, then u navigate through the search screen, selecting the date and time, each click requiring you to wait for the screen get updated. Over LAN, it's still ok. Over internet...... just doing a search (before u see the searched video) will takes u a min or 2. Add to that, whatever u see on ur computer, the monitor connected to the DVR will show the same thing, all ur search menu, screen, etc. And while u searching, the Monitor side will not show live video, but ur searched video. And yes, on their box, it's stated it's a Pentaplex system. U never know what the product is on the box/specs.. till u try.
  23. Any recomendation for a 4-16Chs DVR with Licence Plate Recognisation ? I know Geovision got 1, but that's not a full DVR, basically another pc for licenceplate recognisatoin and triggering. Also, any price range ?

    DVR w/Licence Plate Recognisation/OCR

Which model's that ? Can't really find on their website (assuming u mean covi's the company. What's the price ? PM me. Thanks. Also take a look at www inextek dot com There are other considerations such as speed, location of camera to vehicles, types of vehicles, lighting, etc. when it comes to managing ALPR for use in collecting a database of tags. Talk to INEX and you will get a good feel for what you want. FYI - We are using these systems on toll plazas in the US for managing offenders; we are using these systems in airports for tag collection inventory; we are using these systems in private executive homes for access control. Yes, i understand. But all those consideration aside (i.e. cameras, lighting, etc) which model of DVR has build in license plate recognition that output to the log file, or a database ? Access control ? Isn't it dangerous ? I mean i can just hold a printed piece of license plate, walk down the camera and the door will open ? Even those video analytics system have problem differentiating between a car and a person walking with both his hand hold apart. Even then, i can also just stick the paper onto my car... printing a license plate number is much easier than faking magnetic strip card, smart card, proxy card or finger print. Even Keying in of number pad is harder to defect than license plate.

AVC760 - direct HDD access possible?

Nope. For AVTech's DVR, you can't do it. You'll have to read it off the DVR.
